  1. Yeah, this "strategy" works for beer, but many online sales - yes, there is CoD - require a bank transfer. With a local bank account, an ATM debit card and the bank's mobile app, it is relatively easy to use contactless payment. I can understand the older, foreign demographic grappling with new-fangled things, it can be frightening, so carry on. Facepalm. Someone's having a senior moment. This topic is about thailand, at least it was when I started reading it.
  2. This is a contentious topic, not so much here where we buy our singlets pret-a-porter, in lots of 12 at Bo Bae. I'd search the interwebs and other forums to get a feel for which might "suit" your needs, style and price range. Once you've narrowed it down to two or three certainly check back. As it is your post is sort of like "I'm hungry, what should I eat now?" The concierge tip sounds like something Don Draper might recommend? Circa 1965.
  3. No. You don't. Not sure repeating myself over and over is getting through. Clearly my communication skills are lacking. I ask simple questions and these go unanswered. Again, I've suggested, strongly, multiple times, that this warning does not affect you. T-Mobile, the physical network Mint mobile users utilize in the U.S., has long planned to stop supporting older 2G/3G services (and CDMA services inherited with the Sprint merger) in order to free up spectrum for 4G/5G. But you are in thailand, roaming on local networks which provide, limited, frequent support. Do you plan to return to the U.S.? If not, ignore the following... Now if/when you return to the U.S. you would be advised to consider a new phone which supports VoLTE and at least some of the frequencies now being offered by T-Mobile. A non-U.S. variant of a particular phone model may or may not support all of these frequencies, but most should support a few 4G/LTE frequencies. I think the A136U variant is ideal, but not necessary, for a T-Mo network. https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker This phone is two years old. I'd look for a newer model, which supports VoLTE (most do these days) and WiFi Calling (most do). And which also supports at least half of the T0Mo 4G bands: 2, 4, 5, 12, 66 (I think). All that said, I think your Alcatel flip-phone will work continue to fine, both here and in the U.S. as it supports 4G/LTE, VoLTE and bands 1, 2, 4. Good luck, let us know how you get on.
  4. Agreed, and focus on opening a bank account - maybe Bangkok Bank, and setting yourself up - by making sure you have any paperwork on file with your U.S. banks - to make the transfer of funds (WISE, Swift Wire Xfer).
  5. Where? Link? Price? I only see the A13 4G model here. Probably different model numbers. And not sure why this is important. Again, you're roaming on a local thai network, and not on Mint's virtual (T-Mobile) network. This is just for your Mint SIM, and to receive the occasional SMS, and you're happy with UpRoam, why the new phone? If it's not broke... Do you need a new smartphone? Do you plan to travel to other countries, return to the U.S. or Canada?
  6. My maths come to ~ 175. At this run rate - not sure how much of this is pent-up demand - 5 million (for all of 2022) should be no problem.
  7. It would be easier if you just shared your itinerary. Separate bookings are best avoided, again unless you can share a really good reason. Yes, PNRs can (as in it may be possible) be linked, and bags can be checked through, but you have no protection whatsoever in the case of mechanical/irregular ops. Please provide the routing and airlines your considering. Without any information it's challenging to help you.
  8. An ageing, rural, agricultural-based society, with limited access to smartphones, and mobile data, and pretty much no edumacation, isn't exactly conducive to some short-term change to cashless-ness. Most cashless schemes actually harm those at the bottom more than any segment.
  9. This chuckle-head rejoined over the weekend and was banned within 4 hours. Roger Stone was banned in 2017, he also rejoined and was re-banned within 6 hours.
  10. No. The regulation says "income such as pension, interest or other income". Rarely do people aged 50 have a pension, yes, I'll stipulate that some do. U.S. Social Security is not a "pension". The source of the transferred funds are detailed in a Credit Advice/Receipt, and cna be supported by documents from the originating or intermediary bank. As with all things here, individual offices and IOs can ask/demand any documents they deem required. Maybe just build up to 800,000? Or 400,000 if married to a thai.
  11. You could buy a Pixel 6 or 6 Pro here, then subscribe to Google Fi with an eSIM. You could also port one of your Google Voice numbers INTO Google Fi. Had you mentioned the friend, I would have suggested an UltraMobile SIM, $13 on eBay, $3/month for 100 SMS/100 Min, uses WiFi calling which works well here. The friend could activate it and then mail it to you.
  12. Guilty. I just got my first/only 12 hour ban - been on Twitter for ~ 12 years, the clock only started when I agreed to delete the tweet. Was in reply to some clown with the handle @elonmusk.
  13. "Totally"? Problem solved. That's quite a bold and all-encompassing statement. Can you share the name of the university, when this ban was implemented and some proof of the success? ~ 6 weeks ago.... Freshman student beaten to death in hazing incident at Isaan Thailand university A freshman university student died during a hazing incident where he was reportedly beaten by students and forced to drink lao khao, a Thai distilled spirit. The 19 year old was punched in the stomach and face. At one point, he became unconscious. He died on the way to the hospital. The activist group ANTI SOTUS, which is against the hazing culture at Thai universities, posted information on the freshman’s death on its Facebook page, saying the first-year student, Padyos “Prem” Chonpakdi was attacked by senior students in the Rajamangala University of Technology Isaan in Nakhon Ratchasima. https://thethaiger.com/news/national/freshman-student-beaten-to-death-in-hazing-incident-at-isaan-thailand-university#:~:text=A freshman university student died, the way to the hospital.
  14. A General's house isn't going to clean itself. And they're needed every 10 - 15 years to murder fellow citizens.
  15. Where is here? Where do you spend the bulk of your time? Unless you live in the U.S. permanently. I can think of no reason to enter into a contract with AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile. Google Fi is an exception given their seamless global roaming, and WiFi calling, options. Otherwise maybe just deal with a PAYG pre--paid MVNO like Ultramobile, or USmobile. If you just detail exactly what you need and what your budget is, we'll try to help. Why?
  16. Based on a video game. Some films based on video games are OK. Some apparently are not. Trade-off for his passion project with the same studio: "Father Stu"?
  17. It's just one of thousands of hazing rituals here. You can be sure this chap wasn't the first to use this method; it was done to him. Although, I think the trick is to pretends it's semen, but substitute a food-grade, safe, edible likeness. On the plus side no one died; there are often deaths from hazing. Although the army is quick to deflect those onto the conscript as he was "unhealthy" or had a heart condition. (D'oh it stopped.)
  18. Not sure, but I think he means this??? part of Google Workspace. https://support.google.com/a/answer/9262165?hl=en Yes, Google Voice can receive SMS, incl. Short-code SMS. But it's not 100% guaranteed, some contend that GV numbers can be blacklisted. That hasn't been my experience. You can see if this works for you. Just add it to your account and then try it.
  19. Budget? With zero detail provided: budget, usage, data?, time period, current location.... Google Fi. with eSIM. Does your bank offer other 2FA options? FIDO key? I use Google Voice/free, Talkatone/free, UltraMobile (WiFi calling)/$3/month and T-Mobile ($3.50/month). All work with all of my requirements for 2FA. This topic comes here often, think there was a similar thread last week, so a search would help you.
  20. No clue why people keep raising this point? Very few here are complaining about the 300 baht. 300 baht on a 120,000 baht air ticket isn't even couch change. What many of us are asking is why now who will pay how will it be collected which ministry will manage the funds how will the funds be spent who will embezzle the funds And if 300 baht is insignificant, why not raise it to 1,000? 2,000?
  21. I guess you searched and found nothing? You may have to use a third-party video recording app, which offers this feature.
  22. Yeah, a winning argument every time. Not. Deny, deflect.
  23. So which plan did you subscribe to? And what was the price?
