Many consumer products in Thailand about to increase in price
mtls2005 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
And I think this is set to rise 1 baht per month, up to the stated 35 baht ceiling. -
Truemove H Pre Paid Data Codes, anyone have a good plan?
mtls2005 replied to bmanly's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
Thanks for this info. Do you recall the details on the original SIM/plan purchase? You bought a new SIM, paid 1,790? For one year? From a reseller? Was this your first renewal? -
I'm wondering where everyone was when he went all "Pedo guy"? I recall many here clamoring for his scalp. He was found not to have defamed Mr. Unsworth. Musk testified that "Pedo Guy" was an insult, and not a statement of fact. Handy that. Amazing how the right-wing neo-fascists are so excited about this development. Musk is nothing if not mercurial. He can turn on a dime, with some wine and herb, so don't hitch that boat up too tightly.

Thailand to Implement 300-Baht Fee for Foreign Arrivals
mtls2005 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
They currently pay the 700 baht international PSC and the 100 baht domestic PSC. I think they'll have to pay this 300 baht fee as it will be difficult for the GDSes to filter. Maybe the government will rebate it to thais? -
How is Mr. Larsen doing? What's his prognosis? Wishing him a speedy and fully recovery.

Truemove H Pre Paid Data Codes, anyone have a good plan?
mtls2005 replied to bmanly's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
Most of the direct-sales (from AIS, DTAC. TrueMove H) add-on plans are 100% matched: 2 Mbps/450/mo, 4 Mpbs/650/mo - which makes sense as they already have you as a subscriber. I think they'd actually get more revenue by offering lower add-on prices, but they know much more about the markets here. For those using two SIMs - one for voice/text, and one for data, can you comment on any tricks, tips or challenges you face? For example, you register LINE with your voice/text SIM 1, but use it on mobile data on your data SIM 2. That works fine? -

"Renewed" implies you were able to keep the same number/SIM? Were you? If so, how did you arrange this renewal? That is, I think, an affiliate code for a previously purchased promotional SIM. Do you remember any details from the original purchase? Does this auto-renew, or do you have to send this code every month? You can do better with an annual SIM, where the 4 Mbps/unlimited volume plans run ~ 1,200 or ~ 100baht/month. There are similar affiliate codes but they require a new SIM. Add-on? second SIM? The ex can find options in the DTAC mobile app. Industry metrics incentivize NEW subscriber (subs) numbers. I know it's flawed. -
Thailand to Implement 300-Baht Fee for Foreign Arrivals
mtls2005 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Currently everyone, including thai citizens, pay the PSC (100 baht domestic, 700 baht international). I'm not sure the airlines will be thrilled, or even able to carve out exceptions to a separate 300 baht fee. So I assume everyone will have to pay this fee. Maybe they can rebate the 300 baht to thais somehow? King Power voucher? It might be easier to simply add a small hotel tax, 10 - 30 baht per night? Hotels collect VAT already so just lump this extra into their VAT pot. Collecting extra money is probably best done in country, just "enhance: the two-tier pricing schemes? Although I understand that thailand would like to get someone else to do the heavy lifting. Maybe reinstate tip jars? Or simply tip each tourist upside down, vigorously shake them and collect the droppings? -
Thailand to Implement 300-Baht Fee for Foreign Arrivals
mtls2005 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Answering my own question: Ministry of Tourism and Sport, based on other articles I've scanned this AM. A former permanent secretary for transport Supoj Saplom, had his home burgled while he was at his daughter's wedding. Thieves were aghast at the volume of cash, and they left most of it as they only brought one pick-up truck. https://coconuts.co/bangkok/news/news-robber-in-supoj-case-says-heist-was-meticulously-planned/ He served 10 months in prison. I think he's worming his way back into government service, recently serving on a MoJ panel. He probably shared his wealth. -
Thailand to Implement 300-Baht Fee for Foreign Arrivals
mtls2005 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Silly comment. For the record I'm bitching about HOW the collected money will be used, and when the full accounting of it will be published. I'm not whinging about an extra 300 baht, well I am if I'm paying for someone's third luxury automobile. Will your lordship allow me to stay? -
Thailand to Implement 300-Baht Fee for Foreign Arrivals
mtls2005 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It sounds like they are attempting to force airlines, and their distribution systems (GDS: Amadeus, SABRE, et al.), to add a new line item for this extortion scheme. Today, the 700 baht PSC is collected by the GDS'es at ticketing and is denoted as "TS" on your receipt. I think this goes to AoT, and they "pay" for their concession, but maybe they grease other palms too? Now they want to added a new line item for the 300 baht. I suspect they're doing this in order to route the 300 baht to a different account, where it can be pilfered by government permanent secretaries. -

I'll believe this when I see it. I think this is an outright prevarication, a shameful one. Only used to justify the increase. Note that there is never any real detail on how this slush fund will be managed. Always vague references to tourists running up medical bills, and coral reefs. Who will oversee it? Who will handle the accounting? Will it be made public? Which ministry (ies) "manage this fund: Transport, or Tourism/Sport, or other. The local Mercedes dealer salespeople are salivating. No problem hitting next year's quota. Also, home safe sales will rise. -
Cambodia Considering High-Speed Railway Lines to Thailand
mtls2005 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
So complete a rail-link between Aranyaprathet and the Poi Pet terminus for all this "trade"? FWIW, I think there is one, single daily SRT train between Bangkok and Aranyaprathet. It looks like there's a single-track spur on the thai side, from the Aranyaprathet train station right up to the border. -

TrueMove H? AIS and DTAC have similar offers, but maybe 10 or 20 Mbps. Looks like DTAC has a 15 too. And occasionally there is a promo for 2X speed, and or a 30 Mbps promo. No. Only from a select group of resellers. Most sales are done via the interwebs. The margin on these is miniscule. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/truemove-h-15mbps-unlimited-1-sim-4g-5g-treemobile-i1684004134.html But TreeMobile does have a shop in MBK. https://www.facebook.com/Treemobilembk/shop/?ref_code=mini_shop_page_shop_tab_cta&ref_surface=page -
Twitter is about much more, with a huge global user base. Far more users outside the U.S. I'm not certain how this broad user base will impact ultimate approvals for him to purchase Twitter. https://www.statista.com/statistics/242606/number-of-active-twitter-users-in-selected-countries/ And it's about more than a tiny group of aggrieved right-wing neo-fascists being able spout hate, racism and lies from Banjo Hollow. Have you ever been censored on Twitter? And just to nip it in the bud, the First Amendment protects you from the Government censoring you. All that said, I do love it when musk gets owned for some moronic tweet.

Pheu Thai says Prayut more concerned with armament than education

Yes, this is a feature of the thai edumacation system. An edumacated populace will get all pesky and ask uncomfortable questions. And, shudder, raise three fingers. -

Meh. That the newly installed Junta went to great efforts to retrieve these tablets ... The junta's social and psychological affairs unit scrapped the controversial "one tablet per child" policy initiated by Yingluck Shinawatra's Pheu Thai government less than a month after the May 2014 coup. says much about how effective the program may have been, that it had to be "controlled". And the junta cancelled the program. Instead, the money will be used to expand the satellite-based Klaikangwon Palace distance-learning programme to cover schools nationwide and provide resources for impoverished schools. Also says a lot about you. The graft at the MoE is LEGENDARY. -

Experts Reaffirm Thailand’s Soft Power Potential
mtls2005 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"Soft Power"? This year's "Sufficiency Economy"? Other than food, most thai "cultural" aspects just don't translate outside the country. I mean anyone can smile. Yes, there's the occasional break-out, seemingly always women (entertainment, sport), but honestly, give up on the gimmicks and do the work. Open up society, and creativity will naturally emerge. But that's not really what the PtB want now is it? -

Need more funding for bamboo whips so teachers can beat the students, and knee-pads for the children so they learn to prostrate. And throw in some scissors/razors for impromptu haircuts. And then bail-out the massive debt teachers have been allowed to borrow. Like nearly every single government organization here, corruption is job #1. At this point there's not much that can be done. I'd say burn it down and start over but they'd mess that up too. -
Truemove H Pre Paid Data Codes, anyone have a good plan?

Add on to an existing SIM will be more expensive than the second SIM option Mutt Daeng recommends. Add-on, both one-time and auto-renew https://www.true.th/truemoveh/site/upgrade_option/prepaid?shelf=data_prepaid You can access these and more via the Truemove iService mobile app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.truelife.mobile.android.trueiservice&hl=en&gl=US There are scads of second sim 30/60/90/120/180/360 day options with unlimited volume/limited speed: 1/2/4/10/20 Mbps. and limited volume/unlimited speed. Two examples: Thor, ~ 1,800, 1 year, 15 Mbps, unlimited volume Fast70, unlimited speed (300 Mbps), 70 GB per month, ~ 1,400 for 1 year. -
in his own words... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdZZpaB2kDM I'm not sure he's revealed all of his reasons, I mean an "Edit Button"? Relaxing Content Moderation? "Free Speech"? With Twitter privately held by him he can do what ever he wants. He harps on about free speech but his attempt to silence Jack Sweeney's Twitter account which tracked Elon's jet(s), by buying him out, is perplexing. I think only 12.5 b of the 46.5 b is backed by TSLA stock, with the remainder on loan from various banks. Thank goodness he can't be POTUS. He'd probably want to process half the citizens into Soylent Green. I'm reminded of Victor Kiam... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8ItxYXCLjg

Thailand’s new diesel price capped at ฿32/litre from May 1

Seems like a good compromise. Let's see how the trucker's alliance responds. Will impact costs of goods, and inflation, obviously.
