  1. Yeah, I made a mistake, I meant to say "Concourse D, near Gate D-4". For most people "Airside" means, either Arrival before Immigration, or Departure after Immigration. No clue what it means to you. I'll let you guess what "landside" means.
  2. The benefit is you get THB cash paper money immediately, in large volumes, at the Visa or MC rate, without any fees, or accrued interest. Obviously you want to use a credit card which has no foreign transaction fee (often in the 1% ~ 3% range). Personally I've never done this as I don't need to, but if I did, I might transfer money to my credit card first, then take a cash advance. If I happened to take more - and I try not to - then I'd transfer that additional amount instantaneously.
  3. Saw a couple of thai articles... https://pr.moph.go.th/?url=pr%2Fdetail%2F2%2F04%2F172134%2F&fbclid=IwAR3BY095AQRsM444wQLgSuWkUg1RSwCKuknvjkF4yBnrPzgcqPY5c1Reo4o https://www.posttoday.com/social/general/678630?fbclid=IwAR2sob-L3NCHKNM345PSQEz3kz7tPNRJ8qxlEByjqKe96BRvy0kkwMSmA3o re: the authorities selecting THC testing methodology, for humans not the plants, using both human hair (ugh) and urine. They're looking for accurate test kits which can measure very small amounts. The hair thing is alarming as that can measure usage up to 90 days previous. (Insert shaved head foreigner jokes here. Use their ear hair, probably longer anyway.) No mention of blood or saliva testing methods, yet.
  4. Without a clearer understanding of the timings, and based on my interpretation of the OP's timeline I might transfer the stamps do a 90 day report apply for the extension Assuming 800,000 MiB method, I'd get a 12 month statement, predating the application date by 7 days or fewer along with an account ownership letter (7 days age as well) and a same day B/F in the passbook. Haven't seen any reports of new hurdles. Maybe book a 10:30 ret ext appointment? Gives you enough time to accomplish the other tasks, and make copies.
  5. was what amount? $4,998.18? I'm surprised the BBL TT rate is (right now) 34.30. 1 United States Dollar = 34.250034 Thai Baht Currencies fluctuate every day. The rate shown is effective for transactions submitted to Visa on April 28, 2022, with a bank foreign transaction fee of 0.0%. https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html
  6. Dropping the thaiPass and mandatory insurance is probably a reasonable move at this point. Just want to some metrics/goals included. June 1? Maybe. July 1, definitely.
  7. OK, now you've got me hooked with your "science". How is this random rat urine passed into the vaping fluid? And who decided to test vaping fluid for rat urine? I'm only asking because you seem to be so well informed on rat urine.
  8. And are you able to currently receive these SMSes? Do you have a mobile signal? Did it ever receive SMSes? You have UpRoam enabled and funded? Just to be clear you are roaming on a local thai mobile network: AIS, DTAC or TrueMove H. That phone has extremely limited frequency compatibility with these available here. A new, inexpensive locally-purchased smart-phone, which is WiFi capable, seems like a good move going forward.
  9. How a country treats its prisoners says much about the country. Maybe more than who they choose to imprison?
  10. Get a bigger broom, oh, and a new carpet. I can't imagine what a policeman here has to do to get sacked? Has Dan Ducati been sacked?
  11. I love these tidbits. First of all how is this rat urine collected? And how much is required? And why rat urine? Is it some inexpensive substitute for other types of urine? But you're right, the vaping industry needs to be regulated, from rat urine collection to customer usage. Vape fluid will bear the PETA label as no rats were harmed in the manufacture of this product. Although several hindered thousand rats died testing the product.
  12. No. A party needs enough core (lower house) MPs (directly elected or party-list), probably 140 - 175, to then form a majority (251) ruling coalition. Yes, the (appointed) Senate remains an insurmountable obstacle to any real governing or change. So a bit of a Kabuki (Khon?) democracy. The PPRP/regime will insure that any rival party is disbanded, or hobbled, pre-election. And if the election result is in question, it will be massaged or invalidated. All the power clawed back since 2006 will not be given back to the people, under any circumstances.
  13. In other threads https://aseannow.com/topic/1256618-best-thai-banks-to-withdraw-cash-from-using-int-debit-cards-as-of-2022/ the OP has indicated that they have both a Schwab and a Fidelity Visa ATM debit card. As both reimburse the 220 baht local ATM fee, and give the mid-market daily Visa exchange rate... https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html the OP should simply make an ATM withdrawal for as much THB is is possible (~ 17,000 THB, probably $500 given the daily or per transaction limits on the cards), and use 2,000 of that to pay the VoA fee. This assumes the OP has a requirement for that much cash. If they don't, get less. No need to change money in IST or BKK, for the OP anyway.
  14. I was simply looking for an ATM Visa Debit Card which had zero Foreign Transaction Fee. That is the fee for using it for purchases, or as is relevant to this thread, teller withdrawals. This isn't about ATM withdrawals, which for most who live here aren't really that relevant anyway. Yeah, but it wasn't really what I was asking for. And, for the most part, people here just give recommendations and answer questions, rather than admonishments on whether we read the link or not. Oh, I did read the linked article, but not all the responses. Even though the title is: The 14 Best Checking Accounts To Avoid International ATM Withdrawal Fees.
  15. Agreed, but the Ministry of Tourism and Sports does make recommendations to the CCSA. Eliminating thiaPass and the insurance requirement will happen, and probably a lot sooner than later. Maybe July 1, if not earlier. Yes, this is my "speculation".
  16. Seen some rumblings, source: Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, that insurance may be dropped, especially after the 300 baht increase in the passenger service charge (increased from 700 baht to 1,000 baht) kicks in.
  17. D'oh. Of course, who else is there? The pm hasn't exactly encouraged any PPRP successors. He needs to full limelight and adoration. I'm pretty sure this is THE plan.
  18. But, but, but DPM prawit, the army and the police all denied the existence of human trafficking barely two days ago, in light of the Al Jazeera documentary. https://www.aljazeera.com/program/101-east/2022/4/21/thailands-fearless-cop I'm shocked, shocked to hear there's human trafficking in thailand. Now where is my Burmese maid? (apologies to Capt. Renault) There are a lot of shameful activities that are part of the thai social contract, none more insidious and evil than human trafficking. That is is accepted, and the authorities make money off both the transport of, and utilization of human beings is horrid.
  19. A decent take on the numbers. Maybe a push? A limiting factor is simply available airline seats. Right now there aren't enough to get to 5.5 million. The mechanism whereby there is tourist interest, demand, a desire to travel afar, cost/price, hurdles, then airlines add capacity (restart planes, staff, crew, catering, fuel), immigration staff at arrivals/processing time, local transport, even food supply is a long, long, interdependent chain. It was fine-tuned pre-COVID for quantity, reaching an inherent ceiling plateau at 40 m. It will be a slow climb back to that figure, probably with some turbulence along the way. Charter/bulk-zero dollar tourists could fill the bill in Q4, maybe. thailand yearns to suckle on the foreign teat, again. It's the easy path, but maybe not the best or only one?
  20. First off, I doubt an industry flak like mr. saligupta has any pull whatsoever. Really popular here, especially with the younger clubbing crowds. Just wear the rig, and instantaneously smoke with the press of a button. No need to carry cigarettes or a lighter. Will be interesting to see how they plan to control manufacturing, distribution, sales & marketing, tax, age limits, areas where vaping is permitted...not unlike the challenges of cannabis. Plenty of local FB and YT sales and content... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEQ9dPOUCz7_7FFl6XFoAVw/videos
  21. Wasn't looking for a complete list, just ATM debit cards with no foreign transaction fees. You made it sound like you had many such cards. Can you throw us a bone? One more maybe? Yeah, that's not what we were talking about. Specifically...
  22. Voice over LTE. So when you make or receive a voice call, it may/can be transported within a data network. Where do you live? What is the make and model number of you current phone? Which Mint mobile plan do you have? What do you do with your phone? You use/fund UpRoam? Do you use WiFi calling? I'm not seeing any issue here. If your phone roams here it will continue to do so. If you use WiFi calling, that will continue to function. Not seeing how VoLTE is an issue for you? I love a good conspiracy theory - "forces that be" is suitably ominous, but not seeing where you're going here? Are there aliens involved?
  23. Apps or T's and C's, or both? There's minor bug in the app utilizing Pay Bills, from an existing Favorites list. Some, of mine (AIS Postpaid/Fibre, all four accounts), not all, have Check payment lightly blued out, and NOT selectable. While others are dark blue and selectable. I guess I could delete them and re-add them. There is a work-around, press the Mobile No./Internet No. field, select the check mark on the keypad, Check payment amount becomes selectable. Alternatively you can copy the account no. then re-paste it.
  24. Agreed, but a subsidy is just one minor part of an overall energy plan. Without changes, subsidies are more dirt thrown into a bottomless pit. "thai Planning" Shortest book ever written? Actually it's a one-panel comic.
