  1. I spot at least five vehicles blowing out black smoke, in illegal quantities, during my daily trip of 20Km. Why do the police not spot them and order the vehicles off the road until they satisfy the law?
Like so many things in Thailand, the laws are adequate/good but there is almost zero enforcement.
it seems that the most important thing in a Thai policeman's life is to enrich himself.

I went for a meal in the Beer Garden a few days back and Pattaya center was chocker with tour buses packed with Indians. Didn't see any Chinese or Russians.

"Didn't see any Chinese or Russians."
    Thank God for small mercies!

  3. Just wait until the tourists and the coaches arrive in their droves! Weekends will be a nightmare.
So many more hotel rooms, and condos, being built without being matched by an increase in spending on infrastructure.

  4. "Due to sanctions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, both Visa and MasterCard have suspended operations in the country leading industry bosses in Thailand to call for greater access to non-western networks including the Chinese Union Pay service headquartered in Shanghai."

Thailand industry bosses trying to break sanctions! Democratic Western Nations, please note!

Hmmm....wasn't it a club in Thong Lor that cause one of our huge increases in cases?  Maybe make alcohol sales OK, but limit the number of customers?  Right...that's all controlled by the police.  Never happen.

Unblock the alcohol sale to civilised and private restaurant and bar visitors, but exclude those Thonglor guys, notabene a good part of the whole parliament, which have caused the whole disaster.

    Quite understandable

I do not drink, even socially, so I am not personally impacted by this ban, or am I ?

Without alcohol in restaurants and bars, let alone nightclubs, the ambiance is not the same and, although I still do not fathom why  people cannot enjoy a night out without a drink, alcohol is a necessary factor to make it a success

    …well…reasonably consumed that is.

That being said, I do believe that nightlife is dead and it will not be a perk for visitor anytime in the foreseeable future in this country.

So many industries have been killed by these (irrational) measures ( some might say ) that Thailand must think ( note that I have not used re-think) a new tourism and forget about attracting the wealthy who have so many spots around the world  where they can party without being bothered by anyone or submitted to harsh restrictions. Of course some countries impose even tougher restrictions but they do offer something else ( eg Iran).

Well to do tourists  are not going anywhere “restricted”:

    they need “niches”
Freedom is key to these people and to the majority of the travellers especially when their stay is short

Anyone going to Iran must be "out of their minds" already!

  6. Whatever land or property is bought by foreigners stays in Thailand!!. Foreigners cannot take it back home. Can the brainless idiots who oppose foreigners owning land not see this?

Large swathes of England, in particular London, is owned by foreigners. Greater property ownership creates further development and, in turn, jobs. Additionally wealth is brought into the country.

What is the argument about who owns a piece of land or property?

  7. It's not as though a foreigner can take land back home!!! Land bought in Thailand stays in Thailand.

London is owned mostly by foreigners who bring their wealth to the UK, who educate their children in the UK, who grow up and stay, and bring their inheritance to the UK.

This creates jobs and prosperity and exemplifies why Thailand with its stupid thinking will never be on the world stage!

  8. The first thing that the government should do, to attract the better-off, is to lower the excessive tax on wines and champagnes. I know of no other country where it is so high. Most middle classes take wine with their meals, and the cost of the meal with decent wine is more expensive than any Western Country. The food is good value but wine, as an example say ordinary champagne, at £200 a bottle (£100 in the supermarket) deters many potential visitors, choosing other more viable destinations.

The government, however, cannot see further than their noses.
