I think it's "Chiang Rai Drug" Garry, used to be Fascino I seem to recall, before they moved to near the Clock Tower (monstrosity?)

I find it really encouraging when askers of questions take the trouble to get back on the forum and let us know what transpired.
Thank you Jim101

Yes Harrry, their is a waiver for persons handling/selling perishable goods. It was clarified in one of the announcements early evening yesterday.
Hopefully, your BIL will escape capture and penal servitude on some barren island.

Can't think of a private clinic but if the ailment is causing pain, try the Emergency A&E department at the Thai Grneral Hospital.
Tell you friend to explain his "excruciating" pain and you shouldn't have to wait too long. Early mornings are best too.

If anything, I thought that there may have been less traffic today. The BIB were noticeable by there absence though... Or was is camouflage?
Since the original melee in 1932 (?Jon) when the BIB sided with the navy and lost, not only the battle but face for all time. Historically, they always seem to take on a low profile when the "squaddies" move in.

With effect from 03:00 this morning, Martial Law has been declared. Peace reigns.

There are really only two forms of preparation that I feel are worthwhile.
1. Practicing bending far enough between one's knees to be able to kiss your own backside goodbye,
2. Making sure the house insurance is topped up.
Making a Will? nah, I've had to fight for everything in this life, so let the family fight out the spoils whilst I'm on my way to the next one!

Another great reason to be in Chiang Rai is that we have far better quality earthquakes.
To date ours, here has lasted over twenty-four hours.
As well as this, and especially if you like BBC News you will come to know that Chiang Rai actually doesn't exist so, in effect, you will be living "nowhere"
Great if you need yo be incognito.

In case you were wondering..,
Last month I drove South to Bangkok via the Phrae-Uttaradit-P'lok route and was amazed that road repairs have made little improvement on the surface which broke up in the major floods of '12
This week I reverted to the "old" route via Lampang-Kampangphet etc. and ground the same state of dis-repair...
Is it me, or is the whole road network breaking up countrywide?
Maybe it's a wicked plot by the BIB to get us to slow down. Mmmmmmm

The question is, is living in the Rai cheaper than the Mai.
My own opinion on this is that there swings and roundabouts in both places. It has to be said though that there appears to be greater scope to spend your Rand in CM than in CR. There are more pubs, restaurants and other places requiring the donning of sack-cloth and ashes post visit.
Sadly though CR is catching up fast. And what we say today may not be true next week/month/year.
If possible, I suggest learning mandarin before you come over. It'll be a great qualification here soon

You should be able to get a Ph testing kit. Is there a swimming pool outfit there or a good aquarium supplier? They should have one.
I found this interesting article:
A good pH level for drinking water should be between six and 8.5. if the pH level is low than this, the water will be acidic and can be corrosive. On the other hand, if the pH is higher than this, the water will have an Alkali taste.

With respect Scea, I'm sure you're only looking at the colour (color for VF lol) of your water which is, in fact, only a view of suspended solids.
Do you filter? and/or use an RO system for drinking water?
I started filtering ours when all the fish in the village reservoir died. I also used to use an RO but changed it for a more efficient Ultra-Violet system for drinking and coffee making.

Hi
Water testing for both chemical and physical properties (suspended solids) can be carried out at Rsjabhat Uni
They have very specific, and strict, requirements on sample taking and storage too so it's best to contact them first
The problem is that most out-lying village "potable" water purifying systems are haphazard to say the least. What this means is that a sample taken on Monday, may, (nay) will not be representative if a sample taken on Wednesday.
Add to that the vagaries of the dry season vs wet season changes and the equation becomes endless.
Will the water in most villages make your teeth fall out? (Or other important appendages turn green and fall off?) No, will it make a cup of tea taste strange occasionally? Yes, is it safe (enough) to shower in and cook vegetables/rice in? Yes.

Sent you a pm.

Don't know about cost but they way I've seen it done is, you show up at the post office wrapped in cling film of drive it there and wrap it up outside. They then weight it, (make sure the tank is empty?) and off it goes to arrive wherever it's sent 3 to 5 days later.
I'm sure it can't be that costly as the young lady riders I've seen doing it can't be that well off.

Hi
Leave the city by turning into the Sri Sai Mul junction. It's the first junction North of Central Plaza or Big C
Go through the ring road traffic lights and look for Pathaithep builder's merchant on the left after about 4km
Immediately opposite is a golden retriever breeder called "Goldie" try there.
If not I heard of a breeder near Mae Chan but I don't know where it is.
Good luck

There are two places you could try...
One is a small shop in the Night Bazaar Soi, it's about 40m in there (Kodak on the corner) on the right. It's not open at night.
The Other is about 40-50m from the Doi Chang Coffee corner heading towards da Vinci on the right. It's an off-license selling booze too.

Early days yet Scea.
I'm now in hibernation until the Armistice is declared about the 19th.

I'm sure you need a total of three permits as follows:
Simple trading license
License to sell "SURA" (alcohol and tobacco) if you do
License to sell "Imported SURA" means what it says
I'm not sure though whether this only applies to a "nittibukon" (company set up for the purpose) or Suan Bukon" private individual.
Your village headman is the best to ask and if he/she doesn't have an answer, try the Amperh.- 1

Just heard today that Chiang Rai need well over half a million roof sheets.
If you've got them in your area, grab 'email quick.
Prices are rising accordingly.

I had bad damage to a glass wall last year. This year I bought insurance. Living much more securely in that knowledge this year.
Speak to Khun Tim at the lotus flower bank.
Also replace old sheets with metal sheet. It dents, but it doesn't break.

Has Chiang Rai been affected by the imposition of martial law?
