  1. appreciate the info, Makro was one of the ones on my list I hadn't checked out as my initial housing situation didn't lead to large purchases. I was lead to believe that Makro is similar to costco in that if you buy it you buy it big. I will definitely check out these places, cooking has become a thing for me recently so finding cost effective ingredients as i murder these recipes is a must. Still bemused that I can't find a temperature probe..I checked Big C and similar big box stores thinking that its a must have..and yet no luck. I'm coming to the conclusion that there is a decent amount of items that are just better to use shoppe or lazada to acquire.
  2. I'm originally from the western US so i'm used to having big block chains with pretty much everything you could ever need for cooking be it a local dish or something you saw in a YT video. As I'm am accumulating to Thailand's grocery options i'm coming to the unfortunate conclusion that alot of the things i considered automatics or common place is woefully off. I still shudder every time i see the price for a small block of cheddar cheese. I have used/checked Big C, Foodland and a few small stores I have run across as i adventure around. Some of the small stores don't show up in standard google searches and in some cases not even on google maps. I was hoping to pick some locals brains on some good small stores to be aware of. A butcher shop that provides good cuts of beef etc, a store that offers ingredients from EU, USA, Etc.
  3. Looking for a long term practice, I have a 8yr old and a 14yr old that will need to go on annual checkups and care that might arise. Ideally I want a dentist i can trust to give me advice on dental care. I had some eyebrow raising exp up in uthai thani I'm hoping that if i get some local insight i can find a dentist i can trust.
  4. Sorry i should have still said where i live, jomtien Pattaya
  5. I am looking for a family practice dentist. I have done some google and local research but would also like a practical non native answer. This isn't a one time visit for what its worth. This will be for a dentist that covers from as young as 8 to as old as 50.
  6. Some quick background: I'm unfamiliar w/ both pattaya and fishing in general. I'm attempting to help my GFs brother(15yr) who is interested in fishing. From talking to him he seems to be mainly familiar w/ river fishing and would like to do it on a regular basis thus making fishing parks unsustainable as a option. Some of the posts i ran across in my search seemed to imply that due to over fishing(netting and otherwise) there really wasn't much shore fishing left. I'm considering getting him into one of the boating trips out for his birthday but in the meantime is there a good spot for him to do casual shore fishing? I'm not adverse to doing a day trip etc out to some location if its not to difficult. Any insight would be much appreciated.
  7. ? this whole thread is bickering depending on how you look at it, the discussion has gone across the whole breath of what covid means to thailand. From forcing vaccinations(the posts just deleteded directly discussed if the mandates where in place in the us and the likelyhood they would stay in place) to what that might mean in the larger scope. The actions taken by the bigger players will most likely effect what Thailand consider as options. While I'm not against locking the thread as at this point i think most areas of discussion that are only about thailand have been discussed and reiterated many times its a shame to lose tributary discussion that is tangentially connected to what will possibly happen in thailand. Just tossing that out there incase the thread is not locked and continues to offer lively debate about covid19, thailand and possible outcomes. I think a lot of information most of us didn't know has come to light via these spirited debates.
  8. Your only not aware of it if you don't look at his tweets, even if you wanted to claim that mass media is biased against him he is at least honest enough to put his crimes in bold tweets. Read up on what he did w/ the 3 casinos he ran into the ground, the University he created that fleeced ppl, the recent revelations that during that first debate w/ Biden he not only had covid but new it and then made fun of biden for putting up a plastic barrier. the list goes on and on. all public info you can verifiy. That he new before january that covid was a major problem(he is on tape) and then going right out and telling the general public it was less concerening then a common cold. I mean i get how you can twist vaccine benefits, its non scientific and req you to not trust a expert or understand the science of it..but to claim that there is nothing pointing to trump being a total garbage person.. that's beyond willful ignorance. You can't even claim its because you don't live in the USA, Trumps actions have ramifications that effect even your life out here in Thailand. USAs trade wars directly effect your day to day life. That's like claiming what happens in China isn't important to you. a majority of the military brace has come out against trump, we had one of our top generals go behind his back to make sure that countries didn't think we where starting a war w/ them... i mean..holy..s dude..
  9. for the USA its almost entirely a political thing. Is it the same in the UK? i haven't paid much attention to the reasoning/politics out of the EU recently or UK Of Americans surveyed from Sept. 13-22, 72% of adults 18 and older had been vaccinated, including 71% of white Americans, 70% of Black Americans, and 73% of Hispanics. Contrast these converging figures with disparities based on politics: 90% of Democrats had been vaccinated, compared with 68% of Independents and just 58% of Republicans. A Gallup survey released on Sept. 29 confirmed the KFF findings. As of mid-September, 75% of adult Americans have been vaccinated, including 73% of non-Hispanic white adults and 78% of non-whites. Along party lines, however, the breakdown was 92% of Democrats, 68% of Independents, and 56% of Republicans. There is no reason to believe that these gaps in vaccination rates will disappear anytime soon. According to Gallup, 40% of Republicans “don’t plan” to get vaccinated, versus 26% of Independents and just 3% of Democrats. In response to a more sharply worded KFF question, 23% of Republicans report that they will “definitely not” get vaccinated, compared to 11% of Independents and just 4% of Democrats Thanks to Trump and him making it define where you stood on politics the numbers coming out of the US show republicans looking to lose upcoming key elections.Enough of the constituents are dieing to sway ballot counts. republicans getting ready to post on /lepordsatemyface ?
  10. very true, i stuck w/ just what i could easily verify there are defiantly some locations who outright lied about their numbers. China is probably one of the more well known but we don't know the real numbers out of N. Korea, Russia or india. Some of the drone footage out of India is downright heartbreaking. They had to bring their own air tanks because hospitals couldn't support them. They show pictures of ppl burying ppl along the river and its just screen edge to screen edge of graves.
  11. You had me right up till the point where you made it a sacrifice this age group for this group. As previously stated the medical field in research is defiantly lacking. the answer isn't to cut funding on vaccines that help all age groups not just the 50plus and those w/ weakened immune systems. You seem to think that its just those over 50. it hits them hard but also strikes all age groups and the newest version seems to widen its effected age range even more. you don't need to have one or the other. you can support and advocate for improved vaccine mandates and improved care for less known and less sexy illnesses. your so close to "getting" it its painful.
  12. While these feels posts are meh. its always leads down a interesting rabbit holes. so average from what i see is 55mil per year. your taking whole host of causes of death and comparing them in mass to 1. at least your seem to respect covids ability to kill since its 1 v all. There is nothing exactly shocking about covids ability to devastate the world. there was serious discussion on this happening all the way in early 2000s. Obama actually put together a org in the gov to monitor and plan on how to deal w/ these. it was shut down by Trump shortly after he took office. Alot of notable scientists have discussed how global travel and our expansion into the far reaches of the planet would lead to something like this. Unfortunately even knowing we didn't know. People didn't react how we thought/hoped they would. I always put it as that analogy of watching a scary movie. the big breasted blond girl is walking down the basement stairs and we are all screaming at the tv that no one would be that dumb.. well after seeing how ppl reacted to covid we have to apologise to that blonde lady because..yes ppl in real life are just that dumb.
  13. Heart disease: 659,041 Cancer: 599,601 Accidents (unintentional injuries): 173,040 Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 156,979 Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 150,005 Alzheimer’s disease: 121,499 Diabetes: 87,647 Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 51,565 Influenza and pneumonia: 49,783 Intentional self-harm (suicide): 47,511 i constantly see articles about possible cures, causes and plans for these. a absolute insane amount of money is being spent by companies trying to combat those. these are constants and thus we forget about the crazy amount that die from them. the difference is that Covid came out of no where and we had it devastate the economics and personal lives of ppl on the scale of a world war. the graphic you show doesn't show what you want it to. from 1990 we had 6.5mil and as of 2017 we had 2.4. progress, there is defiantly room to discuss how privatized medical research has hampered our ability to fight certain low % diseases. there was a really good last week tonight episode where the discussed a few illnesses that probably affected 1000 to 3000 ppl in the whole world and thus didn't provide a bit enough financial incentive for companies to research let alone sell the cure. those are separate discussions and do not mean that covid should have less attention. Hell at the same time we where having covid out break there was a ebola(still is i believe) and locus in S Africa. all devastating and its a shame that a good portion of the world media didn't do a better job covering it. only so many hours in the day as horrible as that is. the bottom of your posts has a very ironic line: If you're not part of the solution, then you are the problem
  14. 5.26M dead thats why its still on the headline. last time i checked the US was still losing roughly 1k ppl a day to it. We are not even close to having it under control let alone having a plan to deal w/ it in the long run. The shocking amount of hold outs, while still a minority, is hampering the global response. Failure on the part of the 1st world countries to support those less able to supply their population with the vaccine. The fact that this newest variant is seemingly even more contagious then the delta is scary. initial reports seem to indicate that the omicron version while more virulent is less damaging. What does that mean? you don't die but have life long health issues? Remember when you say someone died of old age that's just a catch all for underlying causes. Soon we shall see that people will die 10-20 years from now and the damage they sustained from their covid case was a underlying issue. When you say you don't understand why its still in the news then maybe this jem will open your eyes..though at this point i don't see how this isn't something your at least vaguely aware of. COVID-19 was the third leading cause of death across most of 2020, but in December 2020 and early 2021, the illness surged and briefly became the number one leading cause of death in the U.S., far surpassing even cancer and heart disease deaths in those months. I can't verify this atm but there was a meme saying that more kids died to gun deaths then covid. the person who put it out was trying to say something but i don't think it was what they actually said because..ya more then 300 kids died to guns..thats horrible and should be fixed(gun laws) that doesn't take away from the fact over 200 died. keep in mind when they say kid they are not talking teenagers.
  15. There is a economic and personal financial reason for vaccines to be free. Sadly 1st world nations have been slow to incorporate that into their plans to combat covid. Hopefully we see a groundswell of political pressure to make this vaccine free to all countries so we can hamper its ability mutate. I think at this point its unlikely to ever be eradicated,if it ever could have been, but we can limit its damage to us both from physical and economically. we thought we had eradicated polio but unfortunately free thinkers decided my body my choice and now we have to deal w/ the issue of ppl getting sick w/ a truly horrible and preventable sickness. education and access to the worlds information means little to indeviduals that give up their thought process to echo chambers and facebook memes. If anything your Government meme would be more apt if you where implying far right(right/left can change based off your location Ie EU) in the US wants you to not be educated so you can sell you fear so they can stay in power. Amusingly enough most anti vax in the US comes from the right..so..good job GoP?
  16. This post string has a insane amount of posts so I wont say that's been answered,it has, but just to reiterate. Vaccine mandate are already a thing. Now your location may not currently have them but this isn't new. the USA has mandated vaccines and so do other countries. It might be worth looking to see if yours does as well. depending on your age and location it may mean that when you where young they where not in place but they very well be by now. US has had them mandated for almost 60plus years now.
  17. actually that's not true. While I don't know where your located that's becoming a less true statement every year. Vaccine mandates are already in place in the usa for illnesses other then covid and now that covid is so prevalent we seeing those being mandated aswell. There are plenty of cases where the government has mandated things about your body. You can't take drugs, you can't commit suicide, you can use this chemical but not that one. If you where willing to state your country it would be interesting to see what ways they restrict your personal liberty because i promise you they do in some format.
  18. That is not how policy changes are done. they base them off numbers, saying I never had one and only got sick a few times in your life is antadotal. With studies and research they have shown that the benefits of vaccines out weight the negatives. Even if you don't engage w/ a system doesn't mean the system isn't there to solve a problem. Sadly its also true that even if you don't understand a system that doesn't mean it isn't' working. As previously stated its clear at this point your willfully ignorant and unwilling and unable to see out side of your little box. Grab a drink at the newly opened bar and you can grumble into it while the world is run by more capable ppl. ** i say this coming from the usa w/ a horridly expensive health system where you can go from being rich to poor in one medical visit..woot capitalisms..but that's a different topic
  19. Ah that selected quote, assuming you actually read and understood the post it actually told you what i was "wittering" on about. I dub you sir troll. That's actually giving you some credit because the flipside is if your not trolling then your... either way your stance was easily panned by the responses to your post. I mean you can keep posting if your feel like it but your not speaking to a audicance that gives any real crediance. Its clear your either a troll or willfully ignorant. now if you want to actually respond w/ something beyond basic jabs feel free to, maybe some numbers or links to some facebook posts that support your well thought deep takes.
  20. the numbers don't seem to back up that generic useless statement. If you really believe that statement back it up w/ the things lead you to that. No one is demanding expert analysis but at least do something more then your feels. maybe you have a catchy meme from your facebook group you could share in support of your feels?
  21. okay even though as in as a previous poster pointed out its still relevant, lets both educate ourselves a bit. Looking at UK they lost 500 to 1k ppl a year to measles a year till around the time the vaccine came out and then you see it start falling off till today when the death count is single digits. considering the population difference that 500 to 1k is as bad if not worse then the US at the same time. Looks like they do not make vaccines mandatory and where still losing double digits into the late 80s. They are still losing people to it and they actually list the cause and unvaccinated is tagged on almost every one of them. I checked w/ Germany out of curiosity and it looks like they, as of 2019, made measles vaccine mandatory. They have seen surges of measles in European countries in the last decade. Found a nice website that shows a map of places that mandate/school mandate/ no mandate ourworldindata*org What country where you from? sounds like you might have been in a location that had a natural immunity from measles. Maybe in a village far up in the mountains where you didn't see your fellow man for years at a time? I read a article once about a tribe of humans that hadn't interacted w/ modern society in any meaningful way to date.
  22. Some interesting replies, I did pay the 5k baht. It wasn't really a option not to due to the emotional connections. I was really more curious about the actual legality of it all. From both replies I got and some internet search it turns out that they where indeed not legally required to pay the amount back due to the estate not having any cash, land or items of value.
  23. awesome hot take on the out come for the treatment back then. definitely the way we should do public policy.
  24. love the ??? as if I failed to read your anadote wrong "While I am, I absolutely support those that choose not to be. Just the other day I was talking to a guy that had such a bad reaction to the vaccine that he thought he was dying. Young fit guy too. He's OK now, thank goodness." so what your saying is he had a bad reaction to a vaccine that is ment to stop him from dying or having life long medical problems... yep my response still stands. He should speak w/ his doc about things that can help and that the jab is still preferable to getting covid. I respect,i don't, ppl that don't want to get the jab. Hermain Cain awards are free and hopefully we get a emote for them soon.
  25. lol reminds me of this story out of the UK of a lady who came in complaining she had horrible response to vaccines and needed to get approved for exemption. the doctor told her they need to a controlled stress test. had her sign a waver etc. then he injected her with the solution, she slowly every slowly slide to the ground and went into epileptic seizure. problem being well it was obviously fake, he called in the senior attending who ever so politely told her that she was fine. She asked for the exemption since it was obvious that she just had a seizure, he informed there was need as she was fully vaccinated now. she threw a fit saying she had never agreed, she had that's what the signed doc was for, and that they had no right. point of that..that story was from reddit..and about just as possible to be true as yours. In either case if the gentlemen you spoke to had that then he should speak to a doc and they should discuss what he will need to do. if you scroll up there is a link to a reliable source about what to do w/ allergic reactions to vaccines.
