1099R replace w2's for retirees who do exactly that retire,  Of course if one moves on to another "job" they could get both.  And that is correct, 1099R's should satisfy BOI but in my case they wanted my 1040 tax forms instead of the 1099R.  How they communicate exactly what they want may be based on the applicant.  That I don't Know, only what my experience with them was.  I thought they were very helpful throughout.

I agree they were helpful.  I gave both 1040's (2 years) and 1099R's (3 years).  Not to beat a dead horse but I think your 1099R reflects your pension (passive) not salary.  If you're retired don't think you receive a "salary".

    Hi together,

I'm looking for someone who maybe had a similar travel history and experience I have. I would like to extend one more time my stay here in Thailand for another 30 days before heading back to Germany for good.

Here my recent travel history the past few months, all on Visa exemption stamps and always by plane.

    - arrived end November 2023, departed 3 weeks later in December 2023 (arrived in BKK and returned then to Germany)

    - arrived mid January 2024, departed mid February 2024 (arrived in BKK, was leaving then to the Philippines for 2 weeks)

    - arrived end February 2024 in BKK by plane, departed mid March 2024 by plane from HKT to Malaysia

    - arrived back 3 days later in March 2024 in HKT and got stopped by the immigration officer with the advice I need a proper Visa (he promoted the elite Visa to me - felt almost like they are trying to push this visa on you to make money...).

He told me, it's the last time I can enter like that for the next few months. I must apply at least for a proper (Tourist) Visa but also then entrance isn't guaranteed. And I had to book a flight out of the country and show it to him. He took a picture of the booking, even though it wasn't confirmed yet.

Anyways, afterwards I applied for an extension for another 30 days (+ 1900Baht payment) at the immigration office in Phuket - worked without any hassle.

Now I have to leave Thailand actually 17th May 2024. I was wondering if I can do another border run via Laos? Fly out for a couple of days to Vientiane and return to Thailand by crossing the land border?

Anything I should consider or any experience, especially after the oral warning from the immigration officer?

    Thank you guys.

    Best!

Thought you were heading back to Germany for good.  Seems like you're trying to stay in Thailand without proper visa.

actually, I originally gave them my 1099R spelling out salary for the year, taxes paid and health insurance paid.  They still just kep asking for my 1040 tax forms so gave them that and no problems.

I agree they like 1099R's, but 1099R's have nothing to do with salary paid (think that is W2's).  1099R's are for passive income which is what BOI wants.

  4. Hard to say.  In the past I have gotten a METV evisa in consecutive years but with at least six months between.  1 or 2 I don't know.  May just depend on the Embassy/Consulate and how the guy is feeling that day.  It's worth a try in my opinion.  All they can do is say no.  Then on to plan B.

I never worried about running the A/C, even before we had solar panels ...  I am a lucky guy as my Thai wife is careful with our money - but given we are not poor, most times she is far too careful, as before we had solar panels she did not want to switch on the A/C much  (which I see as silly as we can't take our money with us, and we have no children to bequeath the money too ) ... but now have solar panels, she is now very happy to turn on the A/C a LOT more .    So yes - I am very happy now we have solar panels - given the current heat in Thailand.

Hope you didn't take offense.  Just f*****g with you . I won't be a "Wealthy Pensioner" until next week when I have my appointment.  I have 4 AC's so understand your concerns.  In my corner of Thailand (Chiang Rai) don't see a lot of home solar panels.  A lot of mini-solar powering for outdoor lighting etc.

Your expiry is stated as 7 April 2034.

Normally you are granted a visa with a date that you have to use it by.

Therefore you are good up until that date.

It does appear odd having a visa valid for 10 years but if that's what is written, lucky you.

You're not familiar with the LTR Visa are you. Permission to stay is actually 5 years, with extension 10 years.

I read that - but that was for the documents needed if one does not leave the country and has to do a 1-year report at BoI.

The other half of that was to do with a Thai driver's licence application (either TM-30 or legal document with regard to property where one is staying - I can't recall exact words).

Still, I do believe none of that exempts the LTR visa holder from having to do a TM-30 when re-entering Thailand.

Agreed - the requirement to submit a TM-30 is fuzzy at best - perhaps even worse than fuzzy.

Yes - take care also.  And the heat !!  After 6 weeks in New Zealand and Australia, the humidity and heat when we arrived back in Thailand 2 weeks ago hit us like a red hot brick wall.

Thank God that we invested in solar panels last summer, so we can turn on our A/C a LOT more than normal, and still have a 0 THB electrical bill.

    .

You're a "Wealthy Pensioner" don't have to worry about running the AC.

So assuming one gets a LTR P visa and stays only in winter that is less then 180 days will that nevertheless mean that the BOI will be chasing the beneficiairy for his foreign pension and to put tax ? or even start asking for all kinds of statements if the pension is already taxed back home ?

Far to much a risk I guess in this LTR P. Not to mention that despite having the LTR one still has to do annual reports to immigration,  who have managed to push in a fine back door to harass and demand again and again all kinds of  updated absurd documentation on anyting they can come up with...who can really be sure ? Some are great of course, but we all know how some can make life hell for foreigners and retirees.

Surely there are far better options I guess for those who come over just for winter months in Thailand. This LTR is definately not what we may think as a hassle free visa valid 10 years (2x 5 yrs)  and wrongfully assume there woule be no more dealings with those fine immigration bureaucrats, .

Only in Winter, less than 180 days.  What are you talking about?  Just get a METV with extensions good for almost 9 months.  Lot less work than trying for LTR.

I personally feel that one should be aware of the benefits as well as the requirements for the LTR.  I am not going to go through them for anyone as they are easily available online.  As for the the BOI LTR that I received in March 2024, it very clearly explained to me that I need to report my residence once a year to the BOI or the local immigration office.  All you need to do to confirm this is call the BOI or wherever you obtained your LTR and ask them or read the documentation on that particular visa.  Ignorance of the reporting requirements will not excuse one and might be a cause for withdrawal of that visa.

My understanding is that if you leave the country within the year, return get new one year stamp. No need for reporting.  Wrong?

I don't think that's right, BOI know when a tax return should be available. For instance when you apply while living in your home country, or a US citizen. In my case, where I applied after living 7 years in Thailand and as a non US citizen, they understood that I couldn't show a tax return.

Not sure about that.  In March doing my application I provided 21 and 22 1040's and 1099-R's.  They then asked for my 23 1040.  Had to tell them that US citizens don't have to file 1040's till mid April for 2023 (in my case mid June cause certain counties in Calif. got an extension because of earlier flooding).  Told them I had 2023 1099-R,  which they accepted in lieu of the 1040.

It's impossible to put the genie back into the bottle. Thailand already created a weed/CBD culture. People who understand and like these products will not accept the end of this industry. I belive that at the end what will happen is that most shops will be linked to Thai traditional doctors nearby who can write prescriptions for medical usage for anyone.

You just claim that you are suffering from some misterious headaches...That's it.

I think it will just go underground and the RTP will get their usual tea money, just like gambling, Massage parlors etc, etc, etc.
