Any international driver's licence is only valid in conjunction with the national driver's licence. So you need both, but they mainly look at the international licence since it is designed to be more internationally comprehensible for people not native to the issuing country. It's expiration date is very important too.

and strictly speaking it’s not an ‘International Driving License’ … there is no such thing. It is merely a translation of an actual license issued by a recognised motoring authority and recognised as a translation in many countries.

My Australian-issued IDL does not even include a Thai translation ( but seemed acceptable the one and only time it was requested by Thai car rental co).

No its  common sense that the vast majority will be ok after contracting covid, doesnt  lessen the  fact people  have died but the vast majority have not.

I’d suggest less common sense, more sheer good luck that all the current variants have a relatively low death rate compared to say, Ebola.

Please look deeper than the headline mortality rate … for example, the ‘opportunity cost’ of the massive resources being expended on prevention and treatment of morbid cases due to Covid  … elective surgery and non-Covid vaccination rates plummeting and even ER availability compromised in lots of places, routine cancer and cardiac screening put on hold etc etc.

Want to minimise or pay lip-service to  Covid? Go ahead, nobody can stop you … but please think very carefully before you do.

Only one country? What about Taiwan, New Zealand, Australia, etc?  Or you could argue that Sweden did it right. They almost had no restrictions whatsoever and just kept living normally.

You do of course pick three island nations there … and Sweden? Yes, there’s certainly an argument as to whether they did it right.
Again, surrounding Scandi countries made Sweden a virtual island once the Swedish strategy became clear.

Truth be told and to the shame of Homo Sap., nobody has got it right for more than the blink of an eye.

    Maybe generational change required.

Pfizer is also less effective against the Delta variant. Israel had most of its population vaccinated with Pfizer in the past.

If Pfizer is so effective, why did they need a third booster shot?

    https://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2021-07-11/israel-offers-pfizer-covid-19-vaccine-booster-shots-to-adults-at-risk

I don’t think at this stage anyone ‘needs’ a Pfizer booster.
WHO are still methodically running the numbers but it seems at this stage boosters will only be recommended for the severely compromised such as undergoing cancer treatment or the few who do not react as expected to initial doses.

Pfizer? are pushing the idea somewhat, because they are Pfizer and with an approved product they can promote it. They no doubt have internal numbers to support at least a modest beneficial effect in general population. So why wouldn’t they?

Israel? as an early adopter of the Pfizer vaccine and having got a great supply deal from Pfizer in exchange for sharing their national health database, they could be regarded as almost business partners.
At the very least they’ll be keen to retain their position as ‘favoured customer’ to stay at the top of the queue as demand ramps up from wealthier late-adopting nations such as Japan and Australia.

I like to see Israel (under Bibi at least) as one of those social influencers peddling a product for in return for prizes … except in this case, the vaccine didn’t come cheap for Israel (Bibi didn’t care - not his $) and also failed to get him sufficient followers (yippee!).

Disclosure: Not a fan of Bibi

Yeah...the gym in our MooBaan actually installed a 'proximity' push button due to Covid-19. You only have to place your finger near it without touching and it senses the motion and unlocks the door. Great new tech.

Until the power goes out due to the fire and/or sprinklers or the fire started in the power system ... so it's 'proximally' great new proximity tech, proxibbly.

  6. Can only exit condo with key card, fire hazard!

    As usual, it depends ...

Is your keycard actually that much of a fire-risk? Sure, if you apply a naked flame to a corner and it sort of flares up, then yes it sounds like it (was) a fire-risk, but there are several simple methods to reduce the risk when you obtain a replacement card ...

    (a) don't apply a naked flame to a corner ... possibly obvious, but you'd be surprised.

    (b) bend the card carefully into a (full) drink bottle

    (c) when (b) proves messy, empty the drink bottle then bend the card carefully into an (empty) drink bottle, then fill it.

    (d) empty the petrol from the drink bottle and re-fill it with water and don't be such a smart-<deleted> next time.

Plenty more ideas, just ask, but if all else fails just forget the stupid keycard, run for your life ... the lift and exit doors will be all set up to allow you to escape easily and happily i'm sure.
