  1. A few smaller stores in Terminal 21.
  2. 55555 A few tourists taking, probably unknowingly, the risk to be forced to spend their vacation at their cost without symptoms in a hospital will not make tourism rebound in Thailand. I fully understood the restrictions as long as Covid infections were brought to Thailand with its low local infection rates. With Omricon, local infections are the driver and accepting triple vaccinated travellers with pre-flight tests but no restrictions in Thailand should not be a real risk driver anymore.
  3. If you are sweating night wear is more hygienic protecting your matresses. Washing underwear at 60°C is also more hygienic.
  4. 20km in the extension of runways and 10km radius unless protected by hills which cannot be overflown. Noise maps only reflect actual situation and take off and approach routes may change.
  5. High quality: foremost honesty and respect for others, treating other people how you would like to be treated. Further criteria are subjective. My drinking habits would not be high standard for a party girl. I have met women in the bargirl category which are honest, trustworthy and of higher quality than many men.
  6. Still waiting for refund from Thai Airways for flight canceled in April 2020. Don't care much, there are other airlines with refund track record.
  7. Women accept large age gaps if there is no alternative fulfilling their expectations. Older farangs who are not living on minimum pensions or low income have still much more market value in Thailand than in their home countries. More important for me is if both sides are emotionally happy. Looking in my neighborhood, many women complain how they are treated and many men hardly show a smile on their face. I think larger age gaps go with higher responsibility of the older part, and just providing money does not suffice.
  8. We contemplate replacing the single glass gliding windows in our house for quieter nights. We do not require better heat insulation because the surface temperature of our windows is not higher than the 13cm walls, which raises the question if sound proofing the windows actually reduces outside noise. We would only need windows with the same sound proofness like the walls. I do not know if it was sufficient to replace the windows in our bedroom only - we sleep with the doors open - or made sense to replace all windows. It would be difficult to soundproof the bathroom window. What are your suggestions with regards to solution and sourcing? No, we will not use earplugs. I am not into DIY but we would have installed new windows by the seller or our trusted handyman. Price is not an issue, though it does not make sense to invest too much money in relation to the value of our typical Thai house.
  9. During a test drive, break hard (ABS) and make some hard steering movements to check steering and shocks. Are there no strange noises while accelerating, switching gears, braking or at higher speeds. Check oil cap for clean oil. Check the tires for homogeneous wear and shake the wheels (shouldn't rattle). Are there no repair signs (welding, misaligned) under the bonnet or in the trunk? Is the interior wear consistent with the mileage. If ok, do you risk to trust the dealer? In my case, the dealer fixed the low performing brakes and I have been happy for the past two year.
  10. Though I purchased two armchairs from Ikea, Index Living has more apealing furniture for me at the same price point. I think Ikea is also living from its image. And I hate to be forced to walk through the whole store.
  11. Post-arrival restrictions are not the only problem for tourism in Thailand. Even if all restrictions are lifted, tourist infrastructure could not be properly maintained in the past two years and the next tourists will not revisit Thailand after negative experiences. I spent a few days on Koh Samet and the otherwise nice resort was not up to date, understandable with the low occupancy rates.
  12. What are the current rules in Thailand for wearing face masks? I have read police may not fine for not wearing masks. Where can I find accurate information? Regardless of rules, I will continue to wear a face mask in public indoor and congested outdoor areas, and possibly in other public outdoor areas as well to conform socially. FFP2-masks reduce passive infection risk by up to 95%.
  13. Being more than 180 days in Thailand, you pay taxes on income earned in Thailand and theoretically (AFAIK not enforced) on income from abroad if the respective funds are transfered to Thailand within less than 12 months and not exempt under a double tax treaty. With permanent residence, inheritances from abroad are also taxed, though Thai inheritance tax rate of 5/10 % kicks in only at THB 100 Mio.
  14. There is no fee for 90 day reporting by Elite respectively the agencies mandated by Elite. However, this service is limited to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Pattaya. The Elite awards you a 5, 10 or 20 year membership. Based thereon, you get a 5 year (or until passport expiration date) visa affixed in the passport at Suvarnabhumi or Chaengwattana. Upon each entry, you get a one year stamp without fee. If you don't leave Thailand, you have to get a new stamp from local immigration and need to affix new 5 year visa in Chaengwattana AFAIK. I purchased a 20 year membership at the age of 64 for the peace of mind. Because I leave Thailand 1-2 times per year and can renew my passport in my home country, I do one 90 day reporting through Elite's agency per year. My only additional immigration reporting requirement, hopefully online, is TM30 if a new 5 year visa is affixed. THB 50k per year and I do not need to keep idle money in my bank account, worry about changing visa or ad hoc rules by immigration officers and queuing at Suvarnabhumi and other immigration offices. Hopefully, I can extend my Elite membership by another 20 years after 10 years ????
  15. My Thai insurance pays quarantine in hospital but not in hotel, i.e. with symptoms cost probably covered, without symptoms cost probably depending on hotel comfort.
  16. In addition to a voluntarily pre-flight Covid test I would also voluntarily wear a FFP2-mask if the next passenger is sitting with less than 1½m distance to me.
  17. Some people are very successful in finding the exceptions and remaining in their bubble. There are valid arguments against buying a BEV as a new car in the next two years in the Northwestern hemisphere, but such arguments apply to a minority only. Electric pick ups will also be available soon. In Thailand, you can make the argument of most BEV models being imported and too expensive. I just test drove and ordered an Ora Good Cat Ultra. For me good value at ⅓ of the price of a Tesla Model 3. No problem to add a refreshing stop on six hour rides. For motorcycle touring in Europe, I will to stick to my ICE as long has real life ranges of 300km and fast chargers along my usual routes are not available. This is my minority interest.
  18. I assume you have a valid driving license of another country if you drive a vehicle outside Thailand and renew the Thai license in September.
  19. My Morchana app shows orange with perpetually turning circle. Morchana Helpline told me to keep photo from 5th day test if upload not possible,
  20. Gentlemanlike behaviour, truthfullness, respect for people from any upbringing, a good heart and a smile every day are more appreciated and honored by Thai women than by their Western counterparts. Feminism and masculism do not further loving relationships. The probability to find a loving wife is higher in Thailand. Thinking also with your head and not desperately seeking companionship keeps you away from the money diggers. Money is ultimately important in both cultures. Cancer terminated my happy 20 year marriage in Europe, and I am happily married again here.
  21. You have to book transfer service in advance, but I deemed it not necessary last September given low traffic. P.s. could somebody please explain to me how to quote other posts. I am too stupid.
  22. Even at Suvarnabhum, immigration officers may not be familiar with the Elite visa. Fortunately, my wife could pick up the suitcases from the belt while the IO was studying the rules for quite some time. He did not ask a colleague, probably afraid to loose face. Maybe Elite's transfer service would help.
  23. After you obtained Elite membership, the visa needs to be affixed in the passport. Respective immigration offices are limited, e.g. Suvarnabhumi or Chaengwattana. Elite visa cannot be affixed at land border crossings. Once the Elite visa is affixed, it works like any other valid visa.
  24. Do you think it possible to open a separate thread for discussing Thailand specific BEV and related subjects such as charging at home and on the road without being highjacked by the fossils?
  25. (1) AFAIK once TM30 has been submitted for my permanent residence, it remains valid and does not need to be resubmitted after traveling in Thailand or abroad upon returning to my home. The TM30 form contains passport number and visa type, but not the visa number. Do I correctly interpret that a new TM30 form must be submitted if I get a new passport, but not when I get a new visa of the same type in the same passport? (2) Owner or possessor can submit the TM30 form. I have a 30 year lease registered in the Chanote. Does this make me a possessor or just a tenant?
