Should I buy Elite visa ?
Klonko replied to thepixies's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
There is no fee for 90 day reporting by Elite respectively the agencies mandated by Elite. However, this service is limited to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Pattaya. The Elite awards you a 5, 10 or 20 year membership. Based thereon, you get a 5 year (or until passport expiration date) visa affixed in the passport at Suvarnabhumi or Chaengwattana. Upon each entry, you get a one year stamp without fee. If you don't leave Thailand, you have to get a new stamp from local immigration and need to affix new 5 year visa in Chaengwattana AFAIK. I purchased a 20 year membership at the age of 64 for the peace of mind. Because I leave Thailand 1-2 times per year and can renew my passport in my home country, I do one 90 day reporting through Elite's agency per year. My only additional immigration reporting requirement, hopefully online, is TM30 if a new 5 year visa is affixed. THB 50k per year and I do not need to keep idle money in my bank account, worry about changing visa or ad hoc rules by immigration officers and queuing at Suvarnabhumi and other immigration offices. Hopefully, I can extend my Elite membership by another 20 years after 10 years ???? -
In addition to a voluntarily pre-flight Covid test I would also voluntarily wear a FFP2-mask if the next passenger is sitting with less than 1½m distance to me.

Some people are very successful in finding the exceptions and remaining in their bubble. There are valid arguments against buying a BEV as a new car in the next two years in the Northwestern hemisphere, but such arguments apply to a minority only. Electric pick ups will also be available soon. In Thailand, you can make the argument of most BEV models being imported and too expensive. I just test drove and ordered an Ora Good Cat Ultra. For me good value at ⅓ of the price of a Tesla Model 3. No problem to add a refreshing stop on six hour rides. For motorcycle touring in Europe, I will to stick to my ICE as long has real life ranges of 300km and fast chargers along my usual routes are not available. This is my minority interest.

When is best to renew thai driving license
Klonko replied to Bkktodd's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I assume you have a valid driving license of another country if you drive a vehicle outside Thailand and renew the Thai license in September. -

How do Thai women compare with Western women as a wife?
Klonko replied to webfact's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Gentlemanlike behaviour, truthfullness, respect for people from any upbringing, a good heart and a smile every day are more appreciated and honored by Thai women than by their Western counterparts. Feminism and masculism do not further loving relationships. The probability to find a loving wife is higher in Thailand. Thinking also with your head and not desperately seeking companionship keeps you away from the money diggers. Money is ultimately important in both cultures. Cancer terminated my happy 20 year marriage in Europe, and I am happily married again here. -
Even at Suvarnabhum, immigration officers may not be familiar with the Elite visa. Fortunately, my wife could pick up the suitcases from the belt while the IO was studying the rules for quite some time. He did not ask a colleague, probably afraid to loose face. Maybe Elite's transfer service would help.

Do you think it possible to open a separate thread for discussing Thailand specific BEV and related subjects such as charging at home and on the road without being highjacked by the fossils?

Thailand Pass Processing Delays
Klonko replied to D M G's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Submitted last Thursday afternoon for re-entry March 4, approved today. Apparently no large backlog. -
Solution 2 on the ceiling reduced temperature in our hose by 3-6°C. The hot air can circulate through the roof tiles. I would organize/buy a meter to measure temperatures on walls, windows and ceilings before making a decision. In our case, the one glassed windows had the same temperature like the walls but the ceiling was up to 6°C warmer. Avoiding direct sun exposure of walls and windows also makes a big difference. Roof extensions pay off.

Why do Thai's drink water that tastes like plastic?
Klonko replied to Don Chance's topic in General Topics
There are significant quality differences among the various water bottle brands. There are some brands I could not drink and had to dispose of. We installed a 1 + 3 step filtering system at home and I have not found better bottled water yet. -
Visa Elite: upon issuance of visa and upon entry into Thailand you get a one year stamp. If you do not leave the country, you have to get a new stamp after 12 months or you go into overstay. Elite visa holders have been "deported " for long overstays. if you have the Elite Superiority 20 year visa, you will get a visa affixed to your passport valid 5 years or, if earlier, until the expiration date of your passport. Therafter, you will get affixed the next 5 year visa. 90 day reporting is being taken care of by agents paid by Elite in Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and Chiang Mai. For my purposes, the Elite Superority 20 year visa for THB 1 Mio. is better than the 10 year visa scheme.

As per statista.com, except for Finland and Norway, European countries had more deaths per capita to date than Thailand. Applying UK ratios, Thailand would have had 160'000 deaths instead of the 22'000 deaths to date. Vaccination rates in Thailand are approaching or surpassing European levels. The cumbersome second hotel visit is AFAIK the result of previous test & go travellers not complying with the 2nd test in Thailand. How would you decide between partially shutting down the economy for three years and saving more than 100'000 lives? It is easy to criticize decisions after the fact, while the decisions have to be taken in blind flight. I am feeling safer in Thailand than in Europe and I complied with two quarantines in the past and will do my upcoming two day hotel stay without complaining.

Good Cat Ultra with updated software and decent range. Remaining concerns for me long charging time and stiff ride. > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THaKC-TOlbY Interesting video on Norway vs Thailand and BEV (apologies if already linked in an earlier post). > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JF9qLoWBG0. Not everything is bad in Thailand ????

@KhunLA Thanks for the video. Such a pity for the software glitches and suboptimal efficiency. Hopefully there will be better BEV (90% of Tesla standard) available when the charging infrastructure in Thailand will meet my requirements.

Assets abroad: depends on the country. In Switzerland, real estate is subject to Swiss inheritance law, but liquid assets such as bank accounts can be governed by Thai law. If assets both abroad and in Thailand, I would designate separate will executors.

can i learn to fight at my age ,muay thai ?
Klonko replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
If OP will have invested the hundred of hours serious training required to become proficient, he hopefully also will have learned to avoid conflicts. But probably he will have damaged joints, ligaments and muscles before such time, unless the training is more geared to general health and fitness. While you recover from injuries within days at a younger age, it may take weeks at retirement age. I invested more than 1000 hours to achieve a halfway decent level, but I stopped with martial arts when I realized that I would need to invest double as much time just to keep up my standard. -
I married my Thai sweetheart because I love her, and so does presumably she Evidence money is not her main driver She will be entitled to my pension Schengen visa a formality Main domicile in Thailand Divorce would not be costly I had a good marriage with my late wife I was lucky to meet my wife. I rather live alone than compromiseing.

How much can you negotiate off the price of a new house?
Klonko replied to AlexCanada's topic in Pattaya
Opposite to us newly built house empty for more than one year. Price inreased by THB 200k and sold. Good location and wealthy developer. Thai must be under real financial pressure to lower prices, else they just wait.
