  1. If I apply in person at MTT, what documents do I need to present? I read somewhere that I need copies of passport, visa, last 90-day report, TM6 etc in addition to the TM47 form but others have said that all I need is my passport and the previous 90-day report; no need to provide copies of anything.

Appreciate if anyone can help reconfirm what documents are actually needed at MTT? Thanks in advance for any input.

  2. Was at CW Immigration to extend my visa (marriage) this morning. As usual, after getting my queue number, I went downstairs to get a letter and 6-month statement from my bank, SCB, to confirm my funds of over THB400K. Surprise! All other banks ie TMB, Kungsri, Bangkok Bank and others are all there, EXCEPT Siam Commercial Bank which has been closed down for good!

So I had to rush out to the main road to look for a SCB branch; the nearest is at Big C BUT they only open at 10:00am. As I was there at 9am, I had to hunt around for another SCB branch and found one on the main CW road.

Note: The IO also confirmed that the bank letter and statement must be dated the same day as my application.

So, if you're a SCB customer, beware and allow time (at least an hour) to get the bank documents; more so with the horrible traffic jams on CW caused by the BTS construction.

    Will do exactly that tomorrow.

    Appreciate your help.

My advice is that they are now closed for new license. Not sure about renewal.

Strange the imm can be open and DLT (for DL) not.

The RC lasts only 30 days. Bloody ridiculous.

Spoke to BSR Bike Shop again yesterday evening. They will re-check and confirm the status of driver's license applications next Monday with DLT. Will update once I get the news.

Dr Jack, I just spoke to K Pim of BRS Bike Shop and she confirms that DLT is still open for license renewal. However she did confirm that there were rumors of DLT closure but she has experienced no closures so far. Maybe you should talk to her 0850550247.

I'm in almost the exact same situation except my Oz licence is not about to expire.

Recently (covid) made appointments not possible or very long wait to obtain one.

I have never used an agent for anything but I did discuss the issue with Fatboys in bkk.

They assured me that they could obtain an appointment. In your situation might be an option.

Hi Dr Jack, I have just scheduled an appointment with DLT Mochit on 9th Feb via BSR Bike Shop's service. Very prompt and responsive; they charge THB1500. Talk to Mark.

  6. I am planning to apply for a new Thai Driving License with my country's driving license. Now awaiting for the Residence Certificate to be sent to me from Immigration Muang Thong Thani; expect to receive sometime early February 2021.

Does anyone has the latest experience at a Dept of Land Transport (DLT) office in Bangkok area recently? Appreciate feedback and suggestions on:

    1. Booking appointment procedure and how soon (earliest date) is the appointment?

    2. Best DLT location to get the earliest appointment.

    3. The Residence Certificate and Medical Certificate is only valid for 30 days; so what happens if my appointment can only be fixed at a date later than 30 days?

    4. My country's driving license will expire in mid February 2021. Can I still be eligible to apply for the Thai license if my license has expired? I can't return to Malaysia to renew my driving license due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

    Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

  7. Due to the Covid-19 lockdown I am unable to return to Malaysia to renew my driving license (which is valid in Thailand).

Hence I have decided to apply for a Thai driving license. Appreciate any guidance on how to apply for a Thai driving license in Bangkok:

    1. Where to apply in Bangkok: At the Dept of Land Transport in Chatucak?

    2. What documents do I need? I have a valid Non-O (marriage) visa and a Malaysian driving license (expiring in February 2021).

    Looking forward to any advice.

    Thanks.

PS: I understand that I need a Residence Certificate to apply for the driving license. Where in Bangkok can I apply for one and what documents are needed? I currently have a valid Non-O (marriage) visa, 90-days report (TM47) and Receipt of Address Notification(TM30).
