That would be accepted if your are applying for a single entry tourist visa.

Thank you very much.  I am relatively new on this forum but you seem to be veteran with lots of answers for the rest of us ????

The reason I keep coming back to this question, I really don't want them to request my tax returns or any other financial or employment documentation to verify the income and such...that's just seems too much to disclose for a tourist visa.  Not that I have anything to hide, but with recent news about mass security breaches and leaking of personal data of Thailand visitors online, I don't want to submit any paperwork with too much information to them.

  2. Seems like I'm getting into a habit of resurrecting my old threads, and @ubonjoe seems to be the last commenter on may of them ????

Follow up: does anyone know what you put in the Employment box on the e-visa form if you are a self-employed contractor not working for any company?  Will "Self-employed contractor/sole proprietor" be accepted with no issues?  I don't know if they do any verification of the employment, in this case there is no company name for me to provide.  I am sure there are others who have been in the same situation.

The only problem with applying is their requirement to submit a return or onward ticket with the application.

If using the e visa site it is even easier now that they are issuing stickerless visas now. No need to mail in your passport and etc since they send you a email for the visa.

I think I saw some other discussions on how to get around that.  A fully refundable ticket should do the trick.

It is not correct. Just more incorrect info about visa exempt entries on a embassy website. You can apply for a 30 day extension of a visa exempt entry.

Thank you for the input.  So many posts about the authorities' incompetence around here, but sadly this is yet another example, posting flat wrong info on which thousands rely.

So in answer to my own question I started in this thread, I'm thinking with this constant mess the TR option seems safer at the moment for those who plan to stay long.  At least the TR information still officially states 60+30ext and there are no ambiguities there.

    Thanks again.

I think he was trying to apply for a tourist visa that allows a 60 day entry not a a non-o visa that allows a 90 day entry.

The the 15 days he mentioned is the difference between a 45 day visa exempt entry and a tourist visa.

Sorry to resurrect the March thread, but it seems there are changes to the exempt visa stay length.  According to a blurb I see on https://thaiembdc.org/visas/ it says that the exempt stay cannot be extended anymore.

Can someone confirm if that is true?  Meaning if you want to stay more than 30 days, you have to get a TR visa now?

Also what about the "covid extensions", are they history too?

The official approved Covid-19 insurance site is HERE, which is also where you can get an existing health & Covid-insurance verified; worth checking if you already have a health insurance that covers Covid-19.

The insurance prices on this website are very cheap.  However it does not say if it will cover asymptomatic cases where you are required to go to the hospital based on test results.  AXA is more expensive but it specifically states it would cover that.

That would be good...  I’m in an ASQ now, the pool is barricaded off, so it looks like I won’t be able to use it after the first negative test anyway.

As usual, the information ‘source’ is lacking and information clarity is absent

I inquired one ASQ hotel about swimming and pointed them to the embassy update, but their reply was that the Ministry rule still allows swimming in private pools only.

But they do allow outside food.

I found out there's a model of vaccine certificate by the WHO, which should be recognised internationally. It may be useful in countries where there's no way to get an official certificate in English (I.e. France).

It should be signed by the vaccine administering institution. I will try to get it signed when I get my second jab.

    https://www.who.int/ihr/ports_airports/icvp/en/

The way ICVP is laid out, there is only one official space to write in the disease against which the vaccine administered, and it's universally used for Yellow Fever.  There is additional space on the back for more vaccines but it's for your record only.  I also did not see any WHO guidance, and no mention of vaccination clinics issuing these for covid vaccines.  But if your vaccination clinic can do this, it's definitely better than some one-off printout.

In the US the CDC card looks official enough to me.

Same here. My insurance letter states unlimited lifetime maximum for medical and hospital expenses including covid19 treatment.  It also states pay upfront and file for reimbursement later, etc,  etc.

Best to attach the email and ask the Thai embassy/consulate to see if its acceptable since you can save 23K baht plus plus.

Yes, not only it does not show the dates (because it's billed monthly and they can only confirm it's active as of now), but it's a really lengthy letter with lots of other statements, e.g. that they pay 100% of covered charges but only after $2500 deductible applies (I'm on a high deductible), that foreign hospitals might not be able to bill directly and I would pay upfront and be reimbursed later, and other legal disclaimers such as that this letter is not a guarantee of payment etc. etc.  And they would not modify the standard letter in any way.

The concern is that even if the embassy accepts it, the COE is not a guarantee of entry, and this letter might confuse the heck out of officials in the airport.

I'm thinking if I should play it safe and get another insurance just in case.  I would need the cheapest policy because it's for a letter only and I wouldn't be using it anyway.

Is it good enough if I attach the policy wording

Not, it is not. At the airport, the $100k figure on that letter was checked twice, first by airport staff and later by a Thai Airways employee.

Was that in Suvarnabhumi, or the departure airport?

Even if the letter is accepted by the embassy and COE is issued, I'm worried that entry could be rejected in Suvarnabhumi because their interpretation would be different.  An airport officer will not have time to figure out the details and might just reject it if the letter does not have exactly what he's looking for, is that possible?

I too have insurance from a major US company and their standard letter does not conform to the requirements.  It does not state the magic 100K number but states unlimited lifetime instead, and it also does not state the dates and just states it's active now.

Thaiest.com states the ppl can use the pool to swim etc after the first negative Covid test....  no hotel I communicated with is allowing that.

Definitely plenty of misinformation floating around,

The Thai embassy in US website says:

While undergoing quarantine, travelers will be allowed to engage in leisure activities subject to time and conditions granted by the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand namely exercising in the fitness room, outdoor exercising, swimming, bicycling within a controlled area, and ordering goods and food from outside,.

I wonder if there is the official statement of the Ministry posted somewhere, so we can reference when communicating with hotels.

Consdier a USMobile SIm and account: https://www.usmobile.com/plans scroll down to build your own. You can get a plan for a few dollars per month (no data). They offer WiFi calling/texts, which will work here.

Thanks for pointing me to US Mobile.  Looks like they also include free international data with their unlimited plan, and reasonably priced add-ons for other plans.  Something to investigate as an alternative to GF.

Consider porting out to GV, any extra lines you might have.

Consider setting up a new low cost prepaid SIM, then port that out to Google Voice.

By porting you mean forwarding your GV number to your SIM number, I presume.

I'm just leaving the phone turned off most of the time but will still be billed for the basic service but won't have any data usage and it won't be used to make or receive calls. Monthly cost $20 plus a couple of dollars in taxes as long as I only use Wifi

Ok I'm clear now.  You are still billed for the basic service at $20/month.  That makes sense.  But still not sure why you need Wi-Fi for SMS.  (edited) Ok, I see, Google must be using Wi-Fi calling to get SMS over WiFi.

Pricing wise, the unlimited plan at $70/mo is on par with other US carriers.  The basic plan of $20 + $10/GB is overpriced. For the same $30-40/mo you can get way more GBs from AT&T.  Only makes sense if you use little and do country-hopping a lot.  The service does not cover phone calls when you travel.  When traveling, your calls to/from US numbers are charged at 20c/min, they are considered international calls.  Not sure about the SMS.

I will only turn it on occasionally to check for SMS or voice messages or if I know I am supposed to receive one. I will only use the phone at home where it will be connected to my WiFi.

Google Fi rep said that would be fine and my account would not be terminated. Bottom line is if you aren't costing them money they don't have a problem letting you keep your account.

Will you be only using Wi-Fi to check for SMS?  Does Fi allow getting SMS over Wi-Fi?  Meaning you will be pausing your service for a year and not getting any bills?

Another GF tip: You can turn it off and on and usage is prorated.  So if you just need a USA number for those pesky SMS notifications, turn on, get the SMS, turn off, and you're charged down to the minute level it seems.  My bill was like $.02 last month (as I tried yet again to activate via sSIM).

That's interesting info, thanks.  Their plans are monthly.  So are you saying they charge for usage-months, not calendar-months?

  17. I think there is a nuance with Wise that it's not insured the same way as a regular bank.  Meaning if Wise does under, you are unlikely to get your money back.  I may be wrong on some of that but that's what I remember.  So recommending to use it as a temporary transfer account only and not leave any large amounts there for too long.

  18. You said you know the number of that person now.  Have you tried to text him?  (obviously calling will not help as the call will forward back to you ????)  You can also figure out his mobile provider and contact the provider explaining the issue and let the provider communicate with that person.

Then she says to me, "They go with customers." Bow chicka bow. Extra communication services. Making those connections. Selecting the correct USB port. Ok I'll stop now.

Seriously?  Those shop ladies double as freelancers?  Giving you a service to charge phone and discharge something else all in the same session.

Seems like this topic should be moved to Farang Pub forum now 555.

    Hi guys,

Experiencing a weird issue here: I keep on receiving calls from unknown people, who claim they called me on another number.

When I call that number, it rings my phone, which means that the owner of the number has activated call forwarding towards my mobile number.

I have no clue why that person would do that, and it really starts getting on my nerves.

I went to TrueMove to ask them to resolve the situation (that guy and I are both on TrueMove) and they said they wouldn't do anything without a police report.

I am understandably quite lazy to go to the police station just for this... Any other workaround to deactivate this call forwarding? I have already activated call filtering on my iPhone but this isn't a long-term solution.

    Thanks!

Quite bizarre indeed.  It could be that the owner of the other number has fat-fingered your number by mistake instead of another similar number, and it might take him some time to start wondering why he has stopped getting any calls lately...

Not really sure what you can do other than the aforementioned police action.

  21. Google Fi includes international data that works in Thailand.  It looks tempting to have single service and one number that works in the US, Thailand, and many other countries in Asia and Europe.

Did anyone try it and how does it stand up to the local 4G providers in terms of quality:

    - is it full 4G speed?

    - how is the coverage outside Bangkok?  what about the islands?

    - are Skype calls smooth and clear?

    - is it stable and does not drop the connection unexpectedly?

    - does the hotspot work well?
