  1. The main reason that urine does work is because of the ammonia in it. You are much better off if you can find a bottle of pure ammonia to keep in your first aid kit. I speak from experience...I was stung ny a Portuguese Man O-War...Agonizing pain....the big help was at the hospital, they poured ammonia all over my back and then a very hard scrub to remove the stingers still in there. After that it was a long soak in a hot whirlpool. no scars or anything...The scars happen when people wait too long to go to the Dr. and it gets infected. Safe swimming out there guys.

  2. OK, So I am American, my wife is Thai. We have been married for 5 years....about. She has a 10 year tourist visa to the US. Next year we are planning on going back for another visit. This time however, we would like to take my step-daughter. Has anyone been thru this process ? I am assuming ( and we know what that can lead to) that it shouldn't be that difficult since her mother already has her US Visa and has made the trip before. I am expecting the regular hoops to jump thru, but has anyone found any real problems in getting this done ? thanks for the help.

PS I have been pouring thru all the info here and I think my eyes are starting to bleed ! LOL,

  3. Rim Ping (at NIM Airport) had it.

    1200-something baht, though.

I had pre-ordered mine at Se-Ed in Airport Plaza for 850 baht....400 baht discount for the pre-order. read it in 1 1/2 days. now going to sit down to read once again !

  4. Speaking of Air Asia..Starting next month they are beginning flights from Khon Kaen to Bangkok. I just booked two one way tickets for that route at 99 baht each. Of course once taxes were added the total for both came to 1300 baht, but still cheaper than the only other alternative which was Thai air at 1570 baht per ticket !

Thai air does have 3 flight to choose from and Air Asia only has 1 afternoon flight, but I am sure if the route works out for them, you will see an increase in frequency of flights.

  5. OK, I am headed to Khon Kaen in a week or so and I am wondering if anyone has driven that from Chiang Mai to Khon Kaen ? I think right now my plans are to drive south to Phitsanoluk (sp) and then take Hwy 12 east to Chumphae and Khon Kaen. Is this a good route to take ? I will be taking a truckload of furnishings and a motorcycle, so I prefer as few small winding roads as possible.

Thanks for any help or advice

The road from CM to KK is the easiest via Tak.Sukothai, Phitsanulok and Lom Sak (same as you planned). I have tried some other routes but they are either slower or hillier and I think you can do with out them.

About 50 kms past Phitsanulok it gets a bit hilly but not to bad when going down hill stick to the advisery signs because there are a few sharp corners. The scenery is very beautifull.

About 40 kms past Lom Sak it gets more hillier and there is few sharper corners when driving through the national park(can`t remember the name of the park). Don`t drive here at night because there is a lot of wild game on the road. In April I nearly collided twice on the same night with a herd of elephants at 10pm and a bit later. The scenery here is about the best I have seen in Thailand. Also there are no services stations for about 90-100 kms past Lom Sak so make sure you have enough fuel.

I drive this route at least 4 times a year and every time I really enjoy it.

    Good Luck

    Hey ! GREAT INFO ! thanks a lot !

  7. Bought this brand new. Only 2500 Kilometers on it now . Automatic, No accidents, excellent condition. Moving and must sell. Bought for 40,000 Baht will sell for 30,000 Baht. Serious inquiries please PM me.

a little *bump* here, I stand corrected on the mileage, it is 1,300 kilometers. Also it is the 110.

  8. Ah ! thanks ! it is Se-Ed that I pre-ordered from in Airport Plaza. I also saw that their store down on Night Bazaar was selling it also. My guess would be that place at night bazaar might be open late enough to sell at midnight, but it also sounds as though with all the fanfare at airport plaza they might have it to.

  9. Anyone know of bookstores stocking the new Potter book from tomorrow? Also, is there any midnight openings to get a copy?

I want to avoid all press and the like about the ending, so want to grab a copy early tomorrow morning, and finish it by the time I go out for a BBQ tomorrow night! :o

Sad? Perhaps. But after reading all of the books since their release, I want to read the final one without the ending being ruined.

    Thanks

    Phil

I know there is a bookstore in Airport Plaza that is selling them ( it's a chain bookstore whose name slips me at the moment) It is on the 3rd floor there. I did the advance purchase on mine and will pick it up tomorrow. As for a midnight release I don't know.

  11. I think you're being a little unfair. I read Thai Visa for a year before I ever registered, and it was some time later when I made my first post. I notice many RSVPers with only a few posts, have been members here for several years.

While I don't post that often, I to read TV almost daily. So I do understand your point. What I don't understand is the people with only a few posts and they say they are coming and bringing up to 5 guest ! It pretty clearly states 1 guest. I also don't understand the "newbies" who are truly newbies as they have just registered within the past few days....I may not post that often, even if I only had 5 posts, at least I have been registered for almost a year. I think :D

I wish I could attend, but alas, I will be in Khon Kaen...and believe me, I truly wish I were going to be here instead :o

  12. He told the whole restaurant that this is why he doesn't listen to people who don't know what they are talking about and that his "Thai friends" had told him that there was real Thai food around here somewhere and he was going to find it and walked out. :o

I am sure if he walked out the door, there are only about 5000 food carts selling "real Thai " food everywhere you look. You should have pointed him to the nearest somtam cart and also told him to get a nice freah glass of TAP water from them also ! :D

  13. The last two times I have ate at Dukes at Night Bazaar, had the Chicken fried chicken...very delicious and well priced I thought at 180 Baht ( I think). I also sat upstairs both times. Nice and quite. previous time, sat downstairs, a little noisy, but certainly not unbearable ! Ordered a Duke Burger and they made the wrong one, took it back no problem and delivered the right one to me.

  14. Oh no, I left that part in because it was very intricate to the fact that regardless of the nationality, it was the Thai tour guide who was on the phone. The Complainer was just an ignorant oaf.

I was in Burger King the other day and there was a group of 6 people, around their 30's, they weren't speaking English....I have no idea what they were speaking, but it was VERY LOUD and rude. I don't care if the were Germans, French, Swedish or Swahili ! those 6 people were being RUDE and showing no consideration for the others around there.

Now it would have been very easy for me to find a label and and criticize that nationality.........Hmmm, they're not drinking, so they can't be Irish, they don't look rich so they can't be American, they don't have bad teeth, so they can't be English, they're not defecating in public so they can't be Canadian, they don't look like criminals so they can't be Aussies......AHA ! they are rude, they must be French ! Seriously though, inconsiderate people exist in all nationalities , what does it matter where they are from ?

I completely understand your OP UG. I thought it was a funny post as a matter of fact. Too bad others couldn't just post "annoying people stories" to follow yours instead of Nation bashing ! :o

  15. Maybe if you would have posted with the following changes, we wouldn't have had all this crap, and instead people would have just posted what annoys them without all the racial bias crap.

"I just ate breakfast at JJ's and there was a table full of young nondescript tourists sitting at a long table eating while their lovely Thai guide talked on her cell phone in a normal tone and with little accent.

All of a sudden another nondescript tourist started yelling and shreaking about how these tourists have no respect for anyone else and should go outside to use the phone. He was much more annoying than the girl on the phone and was screaching at the top of his voice.

He got up and made a big show of paying his bill while complaining about "tourist" the whole time. On his way out the door he leaned back in and bleated BLAH, BLAH BLAH! while everyone did their best to ignore him.

    He sure showed us.

But then again, knowing this group and the way they post, we still probably would have ended up in the same place. :o

  16. HA HA HA......well nevermind...I just looked at my truck and there's not even a tow hitch there ! :o I guess the simplest thing will just be for me to make two trips..I think if I plan it right I can get it all. My wife also said that before the first trip she will take the bus and take along my golf clubs and a couple boxes of things and that would be cheaper and save us some room.

  17. Hey, I've got a house full of stuff to move to Khon Kaen in about a month or so. Does anyone know anywhere that rents utility trailers ( like u-haul, budget etc...) for one way travel ? would like to rent one here and drop it off in Khon Kaen. I don't feel like making the trip twice ! Thanks in advance for any help or advice !

    Terry

  18. Just a simple massage report.

Moon Muang Samoonprai 2........obviously on Moon Muang rd. next to the 7-11 at Thapae Gate. Had a very good massage there with the wife. Also very cheap...traditional Thai 100 Baht per hour.....Oil massage 300 Baht for 2 hours. I took the Oil massage and the wife took the Traditional..tipped 50 Baht each ( I usually tip too much..so follow my wifes orders on tipping :o ) Even if you get a mediocre massage, it's tough to beat that price. They have a sign out front with all their pricing.
