  1. I Love Mexican food, and really think Miguels is the best in town for that. :D But went to Chiang Mai Saloon the other day and had the hard shelled tacos ( no hard shells at miguels :D ) and I actually thought that they were pretty good. :D Nice and greasy like mom used to make !

Added a side of sour cream.......VERY runny :o

  2. Many years ago I visited the long-necked hilltribe women near Mae Hong Song up in the hills. Fantastic experience and great photos to take back to Mom and friends of a completely exotic locale.

Equally interesting, was my anthropological foray to visit the short-necked rather rotund farang tribe that slothed from bar to bar on Walking Street in Pattaya. This tribe was rather gruff and quick to anger when photographed!

    How true that is ! :o:D :D

  3. I am going to have to go with Physherman on this one. These people do need the money, but nowadays , who doesn't ? Sure it is a tourist trap, But so is going to the National forest now ( 400B farang ) or Wat Po in BKK or any number of places around the world. But irreguardless, if it is something that YOU would like to experience, then who cares ! Just go in with your eyes open and enjoy life :o

  4. Just opened a savings account at Bangkok Bank at Kad Suan Kaew Branch. I still only have the 30 day visa stamps...( next week I get the non-imm o ). They said no problem, just need to show my passport and have my wife sign with me. Gave me my passbook, Visa/Debit card a nice little card with the Bank info...swift code and routing #'s. And I got a wall clock also ,and 0.75% interest

easy to do and no hassles

  5. I spoke with a lawyer, and as I understand it, KL is the easiest place to get the multi-entry visa. Singapore is also up on the list. I don't know if nationality has anything to do with it ( I don't think so though ) and I am American..........so flying all the way back to get it would be quite the pain ! :o I am going to Singapore because it is cheaper for me in Chiang Mai than going to KL, not by much though.

I have also read of some people having to go back to their own country to get the visa............I don't know if this is all based on your nationality or what....Just know that being American, I don't have to.

Also as this will just be my 90 day visa, I am only getting single entry. No plans to go anywhere soon. When I go for my 1 year extension, I will make sure that is multi-entry

    Good luck

  6. OK so I've tried to find some golfers to little avail. So how about poker players ? anyone got a regular game going ? looking for an extra player ? Let me know, I would love to join in a game !

  7. So after reading most of these, It seems to me that the use of a lawyer or an agency is pretty much a waste of money. It all seems pretty simple and straight forward with the right documentation. I am heading to Singapore next week to do the marriage non-imm o and was considering doing the lawyer, but now I think I will just go it alone. :o

  8. Thank you all for your inputs. :o I think I am leaning the most towards continuing education at this point. However I want to be able to apply any new found knowledge here in Chiang Mai. The one thing I know for a certainty is that I will live here for many years to come. :D

I guess the next step for me might be heading to some of the colleges and finding out what degrees I can get that are taught in English ! lol

Any other pearls of wisdom out there ?

PS I am still looking for someone to go golf with ! :D

  9. Geez, sorry if I sounded like a lost puppy or something :o I am only 40, and financially set. I am just getting bored with not doing much everyday. SOOOO, enrich my mind or my pocketbook some more........just thought I might get some experienced opinions here.

I have already achieved my goals in life

No I am not having a mid-life crisis and looking for a new direction

Maybe someone out there has actually had the "bored of doing nothing everyday" syndrome that is beginning to afflict me. And found themselves in the same boat.....what did you do ?

  10. OK here's the deal. I am trying to decide what to do now. I am living here in Chiang Mai and I am married to a Thai woman. I plan on staying here for the long haul. I already have a Bachelors degree in Business /economics, I have experience teaching in the godforsaken country of Korea. I am trying to decide whether or not to just continue teaching here, or go back to school for another degree, if I do the latter, what kind of degree would help me here in Chiang Mai, if any ?

I am thinking right now that teaching is the easy way out, and even though I have experience teaching, I am thinking of doing the TEFL or CELTA course.....just to have another cert.

I owned my own restaurant and bar back in the US which I sold. I like the business, but not the stress of ownership. Do any of the major hotels ever hire on farang management ?

Anyways, a little rambling there. Any input will be appreciated.

    Thanks :o

  11. I'm a noob at golf .

in another words i know nuts abotu it ..

i was thinking to start off with Driving range .

and then slowly to golf .

    hm.. interesting idea ..

i know there is a golf place which charge only 150b for a day .

    Good way to start....

You should take a few basic lessons though................before you get any bad habits that you will have break ! lol

Whenever you feel you want to get out on the course though, let me know ( and obviously from my handicap, there aren't too many tips I can give you :o )

Still waiting for offers from others too !

    later

  12. Hey I am a hack golfer ( 28 handicap ). But I really enjoy getting out there on the links and playing. I have been to Gymkana twice and would like to go somewhere else. If anyone else is interested, let me know. Anyone that is overly competitive about their game............I will either frustrate you to no end, or make you feel really good about your game !! 28 Handicap, it is still about the scenery and the fun of hanging out for me !! :o

  13. Well, went down to Tha Pae Gate for the festivities and so forth. It was fairly nice, the closer and closer we got to midnight, the more and more the drunken farangs started crawling out of the woodwork ! :o Sometime around 11:15pm while everyone was lighting their kom fire ( the lantern things ) someone about 20 feet away from me lit theirs and it went straight up and into the power lines. We watched it sit their for a minute or so and my wife said " I think there is going to be a problem" I replied "naw ! " just as I said it BOOM !! there goes all the power up and down the block and on the stage . So they were scrambling to get everything going again........didn't make it. But they did get the fireworks going , and it was a pretty nice little display.

Overall, it was still a fun evening. Hope you all had the same......with the power on !

    Happy New Year

  14. I will be supplying frozen Chili from about the second week of the new year. It will be available, as with my sauces, at Aden, Dacheso and Kasem stores as well as my home address.

Well I suppose it won't Kill me to wait a couple weeks more. I have a Kasem shop down the street on Nimmanhaemin. I will keep an eye open for it !

Chuckwagon Extra Beefy, its piquant smokey flavor is hard to beat; or so my dog tells me.

I always thought it more to the taste of Alpo, but I can't find that either ! lol

  15. WOW ! I just thought that I would start a nice simple thread about how people were celebrating the New Year.........Not all this Philosphical "stuff" :o As I mentioned, My wife and I will go to Thapae Gate. Neither of us are drinkers, but we very much enjoy "people watching." We are going to the different temples during the daytime, then head over and get some dinner and probably a massage then go "watching." Really nothing too commercial about it for the two of us. Just simple fun.

  16. I am not a fan of anyone that makes it there because I am a Raider Fan. Gonna have to wait a few years for a good Superbowl ! :o

Anyways, I still enjoy a good game no the less and it sounds like the right kind of place to me so far ( TrueBlue).
