Like i am going to deposit 800,000 baht for a retirement visa in a Thai bank. They are out of their mind.
Why aren't there international banks allowed in Thailand?

- Bank of China
- MUFG Bank
- Indian Overseas Bank
- Mizuho Bank
- Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation - Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited

From what I've read on other threads here a Thai can enter Thailand on an expired Thai passport and stay indefinitely
Absolutely Correct.
That is infact the law, Thai nationals must enter & exit using a Thai PP only, even if expired.

Please read the topic.
Our marriage is not registered in Thailand and we do not want to do it.
We just want her to have my last name.
Several people here mentioned it would be possible, but obviously it is not possible. Now we do not know how to proceed anymore.
I have read it.
You have to register your marriage here, its not an option that you have.
I have given you correct advice, you may choose to follow or not, each on its own then

The reason they stated:
"Our daughter would be the "owner" of my name in Thailand, so my daughter would need to approve that my wife can have our name. But because she is under the age of 18 years, she cannot allow my wife to take our name."
They said if my wife would take my name and the name of our daughter now it would be illegal and she would go to jail. Not kidding
Utter rubbish.
When I married my Thai wife in Bangkok ( Chatuchak Dist Office) they changed her name then and there.
She was provided with a certificate as evidence and got a new Thai id card reflecting her new name.
However, they have mentioned She has requested to change her surname to Mrs. Joy owing to marriage.
So I think you will need to register your marriage here in Thailand.
Note -
She can change name only in the district office where she is registered

90 day report (In person) can be done only at the Office which issued your extension of stay.
Try to do online.

Never heard of Kiatakin bank but I got a message from Krungsri Bank asking me in for a photograph.
Seems they are moving to "Facial Recognition" as part of a security upgrade, so this may be the reason your bank is speaking with you ?
Kiatnakin Phatra Bank

No.
Yellow book confirms that you live there, it does not make you the owner/possessor.
Consider it as an address proof, nothing else

Is there another way to transfer the funds without coming to Bangkok and doing so in person at the bank; if not, will my wife be able to do the transfer (by wire) from our joint savings account without me being there? Thank you.
Nope.
You both have to personally attend a Branch in Thailand.

If you know someone in Thailand, get them to get a Thai Simcard for you, activate it and set it on roaming and send it to you then no problem with OTP
Bank will send OTP only on the last registered mobile number with the Bank.
Buying a new sim wont help, as new number can be updated only at the branch in person.

He visited the Amphur office and they told him he had contact the Aussie embassy to have his Aussie marriage translated and certified. does anyone know if this correct? Also he needs to get his passport translated and certified. Normally this can be done by the MFA. Can anyone clarify? what the steps are?
1. His Embassy in Bkk will attest his Aussie M.C. and his Passport Photo Page
2. Both have to be translated to Thai by a certified translator
3.Further attestation by Thai MFA
4. Take appointment at the District Office for registering foreign marriage.
5. You will get a Kor Ror 22 (from the district office) if successfully registered

I don't mind paying 5k or so to open one...just a bit surprised that not even Siam Legal is doing it anymore.
Its because of the new Anti Money Laundering Laws.
If your visa says tourist, cannot get an account.
Keep on trying , visit different branches

I am on a marriage extension. I have the bare minimum in a bank account and it is usually out as soon as I get the extension approved.
But the retirees are not so lucky, basically their 800k baht is locked.
They can withdraw half but need to top up to 800k before renewal comes up.
Thats a huge sum of money to lock up forever and get interest rate of 0.5%

Online account opening is only for Thai national holding a Thai ID card.
Further, they need to be registered with NDID as well.

Why would anyone keep the money in this country? For what?
Those on marriage or retirement extensions need to keep money in the bank for their annual renewals
