BBC reports: The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said the summons of Nadhavathna Krishnamra on Monday followed a call made by Mr Swire to Thailand's deputy prime minister and foreign minister earlier this month. In a statement, the FCO said: "Mr Swire stressed that there was a real concern in the UK about how the investigation has been handled by the Thai authorities.
Who do you believe, BBC or Mr. Foot in mouth Prayuth? Does he even do a little research before making these comments? These guys are clowns. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. Every time they open their mouth now they look more and more the fool
No need to use BBC as a source here. Below is taken from press statement published directly on UK Government website:
"Minister for the Far East and South East Asia Hugo Swire summoned the Thai Chargé d’Affaires to the UK, Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office today, to raise his concerns about the investigation into the murders of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller on Koh Tao on 15 September. The summons followed Mr Swire’s call to the Thai Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Tanasak Patimapragorn, on 9 October."

I'm sure we're all very grateful for that "clarification" from the esteemed General...................we could so easily have believed all those misleading reports in the British press that the Thai Charge d'Affair had been summoned by the British Foreign Office.............................
The UK government have actually put it in writing and it is up on the FCO website as an official press release as per the link someone else posted above which is a very strong diplomatic move in its own right. For the esteemed General to now stand up and still deny it is basically the diplomatic equivalent of sticking two fingers up.

Why not just kill two birds with one stone and reclassify them as tourists?

I wonder why he is charged with "attempted" murder, since the street vendor died?
Hey, but he's a hero. Right?
I think the issue is that he died after charges were made hence the prosecution asking for the delay so the charges can be amended.

the one MP per province has one huge and fatal flaw, it is unequal representation.
A fatal flaw or design intent? I guess that depends if you are on the side that can't seem to win an election or not.
Bangkok has a population something like 30 times the size of Ranong but i get the impression that the plan would be to totally emasculate any parliament anyway. The idea of replacing the senate with experts sounds like the same old 'good people' line that keeps being tripped out.
Also, how can the PM be an elected or unelected MP if his plan is for all MPs to be elected?

Interesting follow up on this on Andrew Drummonds site!

But now it's official.
The journalist seems to have neglected to mention which official has designated this as a farce so maybe has jumped the gun a bit as it still appears to be a plain old farce without official endorsement.
Just goes to show that the standard of reporting on this has also been a farce and probably closer to an official one since officials have actually criticised it.

After one day of those health checks at BPH three years ago i was told i had a severely fatty liver along with extremely high cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure as well as being overweight. The main culprit was not so much alcohol as food - since moving to Thailand a couple of years previously i could probably count on one hand the number of times i had cooked at home.
Three years on my liver is now normal along with blood without meds. Single biggest change was dietary with me now eating out once, possibly twice a week as a treat with the rest being meals at home avoiding virtually all processed food. Combined with regular exercise after joining a gym i am now a lot healthier with a 25% reduction in body weight.

How about naming the resort in question since it is already mentioned in numerous press reports apparently rather than this vague whining.
One of the issues in Thailand is the media's timidness in reporting on these issues - rather than the harsh spotlight of scrutiny that the press in most countries would shine on this sort of corruption we end up with a dim glow of hand wringing.

The chances of a double suicide are getting higher every minute.
......with their hands tied behind their backs hanging from the ceiling?
There was a report elsewhere that the prison governor has asked 'other inmates' to keep an eye on them - how much safer could they be than surrounded by loads of convicted criminals?

Some ideas perhaps:
Intravenous Xanax for the duration of their visit, you not them.
Feign kidnap and escape to Pattaya until a ransom was paid.
Mention that the ghost of the previous and recently deceased owner is known to inhabit the home.
Cut the plug off the TV set.
Play Pink Floyd continuously.
Good luck in whatever you decide.
I would avoid using the ghost story - they will end up bringing a witchdoctor with them and invite more people round for a multiday party to exorcise it.
The tv plug cutting suggestion will be got round by just shoving the bare cables into a wall socket and possibly short the whole house/tv/passing small child.

Fair enough if that's your view. But the significance of the story is rather different. In other words why should ordinary Thais be so fond of the former democratically elected PM and why would they want her to be guest of honour at this important festival?Good. Let this old, washed-up has-been stay in oblivion and obscurity. Old hat. Yesterday's news. And equally to the point why should those who grabbed power be so terrified and threatened by her presence at an entirely non political occasion?
There's a wind blowing.
Who says everyone wants her there.. and I agree with the army keep her out of the lime light she will soon be forgotten. You are right a wind is blowing.. and its blowing to PTP to oblivion and all the previously oppressed by the red terrorist breath this new fresh air.
No longer risking bullets at your house if you say something bad about the government.
I thought saying bad things about the government was illegal now?
Yes it is. But the difference is you don't get shot or your house burned down now. Have you been out of the country for the last year?
Sorry to hear about your misfortune and hope you are fully recovered now and had decent home insurance. I haven't been out of the country for some time but did just manage to survive.

What i don't understand: If Thailand wants more Tourists, why then they do everything to scare off the Tourists?
Tourists seem to be taken for granted a lot of the time - almost a 'build it and they will come' mentality. The constant, sometimes ridiculous, pronouncements and figures from TAT don't exactly help.

You need to train the wife better mate!Count yourself lucky - at least you got a weeks notice.
Normally i find out the day before but only if i spot the tell tale sign of my wife cleaning the bathroom herself.
Tried that - suggested she didn't use a dirty rag to clean kitchen worktop so now she just uses her sweeping brush after doing the floor.

I've never heard her speak, but I doubt she would be fluent in less than 2 years.
Sure..., wonder how many TV members can speak Thai at her level. She was fluent in less than 2 years. Prior gig was the Philippines and (I believe) Equador before that. She speaks 5 languages fluently and has been a good public servant. Stop the hating of one you know little if anything about.Kudos to her for learning Thai, an example to all the long term ex-pats who still can't bother to learn the local language.
c'mon son that was pretty basic thai alt=laugh.png>
In anycase, there's 60 million Thais that are fluent in Thai. But that doesn't make them qualified to be an ambassador. There's more to it than just appearing in local media, saying nice things and smiling
Rather than comment on something you admit you know nothing about why don't you just watch the video in the OP ?

link please?Myanmar Officials have today ( 07/10 ) stated that they are happy with the way the investigation has been conducted towards their citizens.
There is no surprise to anybody with this statement, however, I suspect the UK Authorities will need more convincing that the case has been conducted with professionalism and clarity.
Apparently there is a press conference by the police this afternoon which will also have UK ambassador present - should be interesting given he tweeted last night that he has not commented on the case so far and denied complementing the RTP on the investigation as reported a few days ago.

So 'addressing the criticisms' actual means just changing the story they gave out previously because they had been caught out.

Lofty goals certainly - if it were me in charge i would be more that happy to just see the end of martial law and be able to post the 'Welcome to Bangkok - Terrorist Free for 6 Months" sign at Swampy.

Apparently the man the TAT guy met in a bar who promised he could sort out the Tour de France for Thailand for a small consideration also sold Thailand the Eiffel Tower but they don't want to release this information just yet as they are waiting for the next minister to put his foot in his mouth so that they can use this 'coup' by TAT to keep everyone happy.

Most petrol stations have an air pipe.
Most roads have hundreds of petrol stations
Give the lad 20 baht tell him the pressures.
Everyone is happy.
If you don't know this you've lived a very sheltered life
I think you would struggle to find 'hundreds' of petrol stations on SSCC.
