  1. Hi!

What is the best place to do some shopping (hoping to get some men's shoes + sunglasses and maybe some nice souvenirs for kids) in Hua Hin? is there shopping center or maybe some shopping street?

I am staying in Cha Am, but everybody says that Cha Am is very small and not good place for shopping...

  2. thanks for the replies :o

So t-shirts seems to be ok to wear when shopping+walking in the city.

But tank-tops/sleevless shirts aren't so welcome? Too bad... I mostly have tank-tops for summer... But maybe I'll find some t-shirts from Bangkok :D

  3. For casual dress there are 3 Export outlets at the Klongtan intersection beginning Ramkhamhang Road. They have shirts, pants, underwear, jackets, socks, the works. Cheap too.

I found that finding a good tailor for formal shirts and pants is the best way. Repeat business gets discounts. Suggest Chinese not the Indians. Get 5-10 made at a time. Shoes can also be custom made at many of the bootery shops. Nice pair for 2500-5000/pair.

Dept Stores also have some stuff, but I find that the shtuff shrinks and sleeves always short.

    :D

Custom made shoes...that would be so cool!

And the price 2500-5000 isn't bad at all!

But I am going to stay in Bangkok ONLY 4 days :D

So I don't think there is time to get custome made shoes in that time... ######!

Do you know if there is any places in Hua Hin to get custome made shoes? :o

  4. The only items of clothing I find that dont fit that great are the off the self dress shirts. They are largely cut to Thai men who have shoulder structures like 12 year old girls. And sometimes getting larger shoes(size 11+) can be tricky

Usually shirts are too large for me, even S sizes are too big (but sleeves are too short). I mean here, in Europe. So maybe I will be more lucky in Thailand :o My shoe size is about 43.

  5. :D

The anti-shorts thing is left over from the 1950s. Even "good" Thai girls wear revealing clothing now and men have always been able to get away with much more.

We are farangs and can pretty much wear what we want. Long pants, or short, we are still ill-mannered, smelly heathens to our lovely hosts! :D

I can actually see why some Thai's dont like farangs wearing short sleeve shirts and shorts. Ever sat next to a farang sweating his ass off with nothing to cover his arm pits

    :D

My personal dislike is people who wear shirts without a undershirt, which makes their shirt cling to their sweaty body. Usually fat German toourist types with a big beer belly anyway so that they look like a grease covered bratwurst wrapped in a T shirt. You can observe this behavior on the BTS. (This objection is hereby officially suspended for any good looking woman with her blouse clinging to her shapely body.)

Anyhow what I always wear is a short sleeve shirt and long pants. I make sure I use underarm deoderant, thank you. I always wear a undershirt, cotton usually, because it absorbs the sweat.

I once saw a woman riding on the BTS who had obviously been out in the sun too long. Her sunburn was peeling off. She wore a backless top, and the skin was hanging off her back. Tourist, and her companion looked like a fat German type. Really ugly. Please DON'T DO THAT.

    :D

P.S. I'm not prejudiced against Germans, but they do drink a lot of beer, and can smell a lot when they sweat. Again, noticed on the BTS.

    :o

    Now now :D

Some people think that those sweaty Germans looks hot (in sexy way hot). :D

    Something for everyone...

  6. Hmm... Well I think the Xl size might be too large...

Looking for clothes for guy who is 180cm + quite slim (thin)...

But if I did understand correctly, it is no problem to find clothes for 180cm guy?

    How about shoes?

Do they run small sizes or is there bigger ones also?

  7. Hi!

I was wondering, is it easy to buy/find clothes for a guy who's 180cm tall (jeans, shirts, t-shirts...)?

Or should I go to some specific shop/shopping center to get europian sizes? Or no hope at all finding clothes for 180cm guy?

    Thanks :o

  8. Shorts are acceptable in BKK, seen many a thai wear them. If situation needs trousers then wear trousers if not than bugger it and keep cool. :D If one offends least you aren't hot. :D

    Lol :D

    So many oppinnions... :o

But most seems to say no no to shorts and tank-tops...

  9. Thank you for answering!

This dressing thing is so much more different than in Europe.

So it is good to know some oppinnions about how to dress politely :D

    One more question:

    shoes? are sandals ok?

    I don't have so many shoes.... :o

I thinks sandals are ok when walking in the city + shopping...

But how about in tempels? And restaurants...?

  10. Hi!

I am going to the Montien Riverside hotel...

And I would appreciate any info about the hotel + area :D

    Here are some things that I _really_ would like to know;

-What is the best way to get to the shopping centres/areas?

-What is the best way to get to the tempels/palaces?

-Where to eat in evening (vegetarian dishes)?

-Is there dress code in the hotel?

And any other info is welcome also :o

  11. it is recomended that you stich clothes in HH and the one tailor i would reccomened is NICK COLLECTIONS you can call him and ask for a FREE taxi pick up he does excellent job with good after sales service. His name is Nick and can be reached on 086- 5557111

He did all the clothes for my wedding and it was no regrets at all!!!! :o

    thank you for that! :D

DO you know/remembe any price examples?

  12. I've heard that some checp sunnies just make things dimmer, but don't reduce UV. The result is your pupils open more and are therefore more exposed.

But I still believe come cheap sunnies still offer good protection, is there anyway to find out?

I don't want expensive ones because I will only loose/scratch them.

yeah, I have heard the same thing about cheap sunglasses...

And that it is even better to be without sunglasses if they only make things dimmer! :o

I am just bit worried if they sell low quality lensses in real optometrists shops as MightyMouse told...

So how do I know if there is real/good/protective lens or if it is just glass that makes things dimmer? Any idea? :D

  13. Forget about those for 150 Baht.

But at the optometrists like CHAROEN (a chain) you get good quality glasses at much lower prices than at home. If those of the big name brands are fake, who knows? If you can't see the difference, does it make a difference?

Heijko, I am nor really after the big name brands...

I am more after quality sunglasses with real protection for eyes :D

So they can be copies or not famous brands, as long as they look good and protect eyes :D

But are the copies + cheaper brands equal protective as the more expencive sunglasses? :o

  14. I went hunting for some genuine name brand sunglasses in Pattaya, but finding the genuine product was difficult.

Most optometrist shops sell either copies or name brand frames with inferior quality lens.

If you were lucky enough to find the genuine article, it was usually last years model.

I suggest that you check out the duty free price of name brand sunglasses and buy them at the airport before you leave your home country.

    Hi!

Thank you for the reply :D

How do you know/see if the lens is inferior quality (inferior quality=not so good quality?)?

If I buy copies of trend sunglasses in optometrist shops, are the lenses protective or not?

Is there any way to know or see if the lens is really protective? :o

  15. SleepyJohn, no no... I don't want Dior logo (or I don't even know if I want Dior's sunglasses...) :D

I just want sunglasses that are the same style, BIG!

    Britmaverick, 150bht?

For a sunglasses that have real uv-protection?

    That's not bad... :o

But what do you mean by "markets"?

  16. Hello!

I am going to spend 2 weeks in Cha Am.

    Staying in Hotel Regent Chalet.

Many people tell me that tailor made clothes are very cheap in Thailand... :o

Question; is there some good tailors in Cha Am or do I need to go to Hua Hin to get good tailor?

Maybe some names and where the tailor's office is? :D

And if you can tell some price examples (I am hoping to get a man's jacket + trousers + shirts + jeans...)? And do they make clothes with strecth fabric?

  17. Don't forget state tower, sirroco/ dome bar on upper silom road, 64th floor bar overseeing chao praya river etc. Pricey cocktail about 400 baht including tip, but worth it.

Do you think we should make table reservation for Sirocco?

Or is there normally easy to get free tables?

400baht for a drink? Do I even dare to ask how much is dinner there? :o
