Respect to the NZ woman but if the perp had been carrying a knife things could have ended very differently. Is it really worth risking your life for things that can be easily replaced? I know the more macho TV posters will say you must always stand up for yourself but "live to fight another day" has always seemed a smart attitude to me.

Busaba urged dog and cat owners to have their pets vaccinated for free, reported Daily News.
Where do we go to get our pets vaccinated for free?

I went to SCB today to get a bank draft & was asked for my passport which I didn't have. I offered them my Thai driving licence & my pink ID card & they chose the latter.

You really shouldn't be refreshing sows, there are laws against that kind of thing (although probably not in the LOS)

Hi Betty Buck
Glad to hear your husband got his UK visa & good luck with the Schengen.
My Thai wife & I were hoping to take a holiday in the UK & Spain but things are looking tricky after her UK visa application was rejected. We've done the same trip before so we weren't expecting any problems but there you go. We've applied again for the UK visa but I'm not sure if we're going to have time to get the Schengen. How long did it take to get an appointment?
Cheers

The UKVI do stipulate that original documents should be supplied, there are reports of copies being supplied and end entry clearance being approved.
Nobody can categorically say that it's okay, it's for you to decide whether you want to take a chance.
I personally always supply originals with a copy, I suppose it could boil down to how strong the application is, if the ECO is looking for an excuse to refuse the application, that could be it.

When a Thai is applying for a UK Standard Visitor Visa is it necessary to supply original documents (apart from the applicant's passport) or will signed copies be sufficient in all cases?
Thanks

Would toothpicks be an option or are they toxic as well? I know we put them in our mouths but would sticking them in an oven be dodgy?

Looks really tasty. Any idea what the calorific content is?
I've made paneer before, it's an Indian cheese that's really easy to make. It doesn't have a really strong flavour but it adds a nice chewy texture to curries such as saag paneer made with spinach.
Calories are about the same as brie.

Recipes like stuffed pork loin require tying up. What sort of string is needed & where can you buy it? Presumably standard string from Tescos is going to contain toxic elements unsuitable for cooking.

Yup ^^^ the installation instructions say 32A breaker and 4mm2 cable http://media3.bsh-group.com/Documents/9001155288_A.pdf
In truth if it's on 2.5mm2 it will be fine so long as it's not used for hours at a time.
What power is the oven (is it just an oven)? Most domestic ovens (no hob) would be fine on a 20A breaker. Swapping the last two breakers could be a quick (and very cheap) fix.
The water heater is only used for 15 minutes max so as long as the cable is at least 2.5mm then I can use a 32A breaker right?
Not sure about the power of the oven but I've run it at max temp for short periods & at low temp for 8 hours+ & the breaker has never gone off.

Breaker 13 (hot water kitchen) is a 20A breaker. Too small for 6KW
Adding.. 32A would be ok if the wire size is thick enough. What wire size do you have from breaker box to heater.?
No idea about the wire size I'm afraid. What size would it need to be for a 32 A breaker?

Is this something which has just started and everything has been OK in the past?
How many Watts is the heater?
How many Amps is the breaker?
Does the breaker have a "test" button? (is it an RCBO)
If you're not sure, post photos.
Hi Crossy
Sorry for taking so long to reply, been looking for the heater user manual. It's a Siemans DH 0611, 6 kW & 32 A fuse protection. Not sure about the breaker so I've attached a photos.
It has been happening for a long time but only intermittently, not every time I use it.
Cheers

Hi all,
I know next to nothing about electrics so go easy on me.
My kitchen sink has a water heater underneath with it's own breaker switch. The breaker switch regularly switches off when I'm washing up. Why is this & what should I do about it?
Thanks

I'm using TunnelBear on my Minix Neo box & it works perfectly. $50/year for up to 5 devices with unlimited data. I've tried using some of the free VPN's such as Hola but found them too slow for streaming video.

I arrived just before 08.30 and was fourth in the queue to be seen. By 09.00 I was walking out with everything completed and a re-entry permit. All that was required was TM 7, TM 8, the usual photocopies of passport, bank book with verification letter
I assume that if you arrived before 08.30 you must have gone to the bank the previous day. Immigration told me a long time ago that the bank book & verification letter had to be dated the same day as the application for extension. Is that no longer the case?
Thanks

The ferry between Koh Samui & Donsak (near Surat Thani) takes 90 minutes & costs B130 for foot passengers. http://www.seatranferry.com/en/services/fares.php
OK it's a shorter distance with higher demand but B1,200 is ridiculous.

Just been down to my local True Visions office to sign up, B299 for the Happy Family HD package + B299 for the PL = B598/month which I'm happy with. For another B99/month I can get the PVR service to record the late games. B1,000 deposit, equipment & installation free, coming round on Monday to install.
Sounds too good to be true (pun intended) so I'll update if anything changes.

I was in my local immigration office for my 90 days report & I was dealt with by a young guy who I'd never seen before. When he returned my passport I said "Kawp khun krup" & wai'd him as I always do. On previous occasions the immigration officials have always returned it but this time nothing. I felt slightly embarrased as there were a lot of people waiting & made a mental note not to bother wai'ing this guy if I get him again. My question is was he being deliberately insulting towards me or am I being over sensitive? My wife taught me to always return a wai from an adult whatever their social status. Wouldn't a Thai be offended if I didn't return their wai?

There is one on the Palu road, on the same side as the school about 500 yards up

Is there anywhere that cuts timber to your specification? I've been to a few places that sell wood in standard sizes but none of them have what I need.

TransferWise is taking a long time to reach KBank

My UK bank doesn't charge for overseas transfers & is quick, usually within 24 hours. The downside is I don't know what the exchange rate will be, my Thai bank charges around B200 & the request has to be made by phone.
Transfers via TransferWise are very easy using their app & you know exactly how much you're going to receive but it is slower, usually 2 to 3 days. Their transfers are from their Thai bank to yours & I asked them why it takes so long since bank to bank transfers within Thailand are almost instant. Their explanation was that their Thai bank account is some kind of business account & therefore doesn't work like normal customer accounts. My suspicion is that their business model includes holding on to customers money for 1 or 2 days as explained in a previous post.
Having said that, for non urgent transfers I will continue to use TransferWise.
