What is the good news about living in Thailand now?
Charlie Halliday replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand probably one of the best countries in the world to live in the past 2 years of covid. Leadership aside, we are very free to enjoy life, move around the country and enjoy quality food produce. Can't grumble. Those that do are generally miserable people who would complain wherever they lived. Not much hope for that category. -
They can tweak the requirements as much as they want. It won't make any difference. Aside form returnees and a few 100 tourists, 99% of past visitors won't visit until its restriction free. There are plenty of better options all over the world. Omicron is not dangerous and the Govt know as much. Meanwhile thia businesses close daily and the tourist islands will take decades to recover. Very sad.

I wouldn't know as only been married to one Thai for the last 30 years. Couldn't imagine being married to a western woman although they can also be beautiful and fun. There are some damn ugly Thai women as well. They're certainly not all beautiful and honest! Just so happened I lived in Asia from a young age so didn't get to meet many western women. There are good and bad women in Thailand just as there are in any country.

This is so funny and stupid . There are plenty of westerners who have spent USD1m plus here buying property and stocks but that doesn't mean they want to work here! And there is no way this dreamed up scheme will attract people to dump that sum for the privelege of working here! I would not work here in a million years. I've been thru that experience 25 years ago and would never do it again. It's actually very dangerous for foreigners to work in Thailand. Love living here, be low key, don't get on the wrong side of officials and leave most of your capital Offshore.

Teen pregnancy seems quite common in Thailand and probably many parts of the world where the populace receive a poor education. It's always so sad to see a young girl lumbered with a child before she even turns 19, with virtually no prospects. It never ceases to amaze me how mnay young girls end up with total bums, get pregnant, the bloke disappears and she's left alone to raise the toddler. It all starts with education. Not only in Thailand but all over the world.

The bloke that poured beer over her head sums up the macho arrogant attitude of so many Thai men who think rejection from a woman is unacceptable. If he had poured beer over my daughters head, he would have got a proper hiding from her. She's also trained in muay Thai, is tall, fit and bloody good at beating up lowlifes. He deserved a severe kicking and got off lightly. What a jerk.

All joking aside, millions of Thais are out of work due to covid and the govt has don't nothing to support them aside from a couple of thousand baht handouts. Meanwhile the govt helps themselves to the Buffett like any other past Thai Govt, filling their boots.. Mental health issues and suicides are on the rise and unless these clowns reopen the country minus the restrictions, the tourist sector will never ever recover.

Anutin latest: Praises himself to the skies for saving Thailand
Charlie Halliday replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If this clown becomes PM Thailand will become like Zimbabwe under Mugabe. Foreigners will be evicted and their properties taken away. He is so outwardly racist its shocking! I don't think the Thai public would tolerate this buffoon. -
Country Ready to Resume Test & Go Entry on Feb 1
Charlie Halliday replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Obviously the racist Anutin does not want foreigners in the country. You couldn't make it more difficult for visitors. What a joke. Meanwhile millions of Thais have lost everything. -
Tourists Decry ATK Requirement at Piers to Samet Island
Charlie Halliday replied to snoop1130's topic in Eastern Thailand
Medical tourism has all but dried up the past 2 years leaving the private hospitals in Thailand on the brink of collapse. As medical tourism is one of the Govts big money drivers in their economic plan they've had to resort to these ridiculous measures to fill up the beds. My 27 year old daughter had a false positive on the test and go and spent her first 10 days in a private hospital. I spoke to the ward nurse every day to check her results and every day she told me there was no sign of covid. 4 x rays later, a bucket load of anti viral drugs which I told her to hide in her suitcase, and 10days in a locked room she emerged looking grey and weak. They're sending perfectly healthy young people into hospital isolation and they're coming out sick! The situation is preventing tourists from coming here and is destroying the economy. Sad and incredibly bizarre. Its also stopping us residents leaving Thailand for overseas trips for fear of not being able to get back into the country on our return. Mind-bogglingly bizzare. -
Thailand is a very safe country but if you really want trouble you can find it. These two Brits antagonised the locals and broke the law and sadly suffered the consequences. If they'd just stopped at 9pm as required by law nothing would have happened. Let it be a lesson. Behave yourself when in a foreign country.

Private sector backs proposed Test & Go reinstatement
Charlie Halliday replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Nobody in their right mind is coming here if they continue this stupid regular testing. Omicron is a cold and anyone can get it. This govt locks you up for 2 weeks on a positive test even if asymptomatic. Open the country and stop testing if you want the economy to have chance of recovery. Its already a total disaster with 50% of hotels and tourist related business permanently folded. Foreigners are not coming back under the dumb test and and get ripped off scheme. -
Heinecke is suffering massive losses so of course he has a vested interest in fully opening. And to be fair he has a point. Sticking healthy people into hospitals is a joke. My own daughter tested + on arrival and spent 10 days at the govts expense in a swanky hospital and they found nothing wrong with her at all. Most likely a false +. The virus is not killing in numbers anymore. Something like 10 a day. So way less than road accidents. Just open the country and at least try to rebuild the economy. Its probably too late already but try at least

Hua Hin restaurants set to stop serving alcohol by 9pm
Charlie Halliday replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
Yup 9pm should stop the covid spread. Cannot be spread during the day or up until that time. But between 9pm and midnight covid is rampant. Very very smart Govt. We are so lucky to have such great people watching over us. Amazing Thailand. Almost as smart a move as banning alcohol sales between 1 and 5pm in supermarkets. Pure genius. -
From friend of friend who works at money manger in Boston: We had the Director of International Infectious Disease at MGH join a call today with the partners and managers of my firm. I thought I'd share a few of the interesting points from his presentation: 1 Close to 100% of the positive cases in MA are Omicron. Delta is almost completely gone from New England. 2 This surge will peak sometime between 1/10 and 1/21 and then begin a quick downhill journey of two to four weeks. 3 We will end up with a 20-50% positivity rate. 4 February will be clean up mode, March will begin to return to "normal" 5 Omicron lives in your nose and upper respiratory area which is what makes it so contagious. It isn't able to bond with your lungs like the other variants. 6 The increased hospitalizations should be taken with a grain of salt as most of them are secondary admissions (i.e. people coming in for surgery, broken bones, etc. who are tested for COVID) 7 We won't need a booster for omicron because they wouldn't be able to develop one before it's completely gone and we're all going to get it which will give us the immunity we need to get through it. 8 COVID will join the 4 other coronaviruses we deal with that cause the common cold, upper respiratory infections, RSV, etc. It will become a pediatric disease mainly affecting young children with no immunity. 9 40% of those infected will be asymptomatic 10 Rapid tests are 50-80% sensitive to those with symptoms, only 30-60% sensitive to those without symptoms 11 Contact tracing is worthless because we're all going to get it and there's no way we could keep up with it. 12 We are fighting the last war with COVID and should be pivoting back to normal life, but society isn't quite ready for it yet. 13 There is no need to stay home from work or to be a hermit unless you're immunocompromised or 85 or older, but he does recommend staying away from large gatherings for the next six weeks. 14 Spring/Summer will be really nice! Overall a great presentation.
