    i tend to agree.

All the smiley faces hide the true person behind it.

I think Thais in general are all about themselves, especially in cars...........its me, me, me.

All this smiling and welcoming..........in some cases genuine, but in the main, I feel very false.

Good manners..........very rare here in my opinion.

But better than England...........or.......what used to be England......so I will fight it out here.

There may be violence in the UK but I have never seen any. I have lived in London for 50 years.

  2. Every year in the UK, everyone in the UK, over 60 or with health issues can go to their gp for a flu jab. Last year I went for the second time, I am 74, and the nurse gave me a shingles jab at the same time. Lasts a life time, she said.

  3. I was a podiatrist. I retired 4 years ago when I was 70. I saw fungal toenails every day. Over the years I bought different expensive kit hyped up by salespeople at trade conferences. Nothing worked. I have some fungal toenails and have tried some topical treatments. I even avulsed a toenail of mine under local anaesthetic to see if that would work. It didn't. Nowadays I file my thickened nails and that's that. BTW, tea tree oil cures nothing.

A "system" like police doing their job enforcing road law would really help.

It's a strange concept but whenever I've rented vehicles in Australia they ask for a licence.

Years ago I rented a car on line for collection at Perpignan airport in France. I got to the rental office and realised I had forgotten my driving licence. They wouldn't allow me to rent. The companies who rent the motorbikes in Thailand have to swallow the cost of the damaged or written off bikes I guess. Probably deposits don't cover it.

  5. I bought some diazepam, for my daughter, in a pharmacy in chiang mai last year. My daughter travels a lot for work in UK and her gp near her home won't prescribe much. She takes it when necessary for chronic pain and associated anxiety. Is it possible for me to buy some in chiang mai or krabi?

  6. When I arrived in Bangkok in January this year, the IO took me to one side and asked me many questions, the first one being 'why are you here? You were here in October. I had been in the phuket sandbox from August to October. My reply was that I am retired, I like Thailand. I am on holiday. Eventually we started talking about English football and he was friendly and stamped my passport with a 60 day visa. He also gave me the impression that I was in future a marked man on their computer system. I extended my visa for a further 30 days in chiang mai with no problem. I have spoken to other people who have endured this process. I really thought he was going to send me back home and was anxious at first. I think it is a power trip or just boredom on the part of the IO. I returned to Thailand on July 6th and sailed through immigration.

  7. I arrived in Bangkok from uk last week. I had a 60 day return ticket but was given a 30 day visa in Bangkok airport which I will extend. On the advice of this forum I bought a throwaway ticket to da nang from onwardflights.com. It was 7 us dollars. I printed it out but nobody asked to see it in London or Bangkok. I flew with Thai Airways.

  8. Thanks Ubon Joe and Dr Jack. I think I will buy a throw away. It might be a bit stressful trying to buy a ticket online in a busy airport with queues of impatient travellers waiting behind me. Supplementary question. I am 73 with no medical history. Travel insurance becomes expensive. Last 2 times I travelled with Emirates who had inclusive covid insurance. Is it better to buy Thai health insurance for 2 months? Thanks again.

  9. I am 73 next month. I have been visiting Thailand for the last 5 years. The last 2 times with  60 days and a 30 day extension. I have grandchildren in the UK and I would like to spend a few months here and a few months there. At suvarnabhumi in January I was questioned why I was returning to Thailand having left in October. I have the funds to obtain a non O if that is best. Or can I just keep coming and going? Ideas and advice would be appreciated.

  10. I live in the UK and see people buying plastic bottles of water when tap water is safe to drink. I think here that tap water isn't safe to drink. If it was made safe, people wouldn't waste their money buying water and there would be one less plastic waste issue. The same in most 3rd world countries. I was in phuket a few months ago and there was a lot of plastic waste washed up on the beaches including plenty of bottles.

  11. I have been visiting Thailand several times a year for 5 years. Last night I arrived at Suvarnabhumi and was grilled for about an hour before they let me through to my test and go hotel. Last year I stayed in Thailand 90 days through the phuket sandbox, returning to the UK on 20th October. Is there a limit to the number of times I can enter? The IMO said he was sending my file to the chiang mai IO so I should get a retirement visa. This all seems very odd. I come here and spend money on hotels, restaurants, taxis etc which is what they want, isn't it?
