  1. I went into Bangkok Bank yesterday to transfer cash from a starling debit card to my Bangkok Bank card. I have done this before. They no longer allow this. She pointed to a notice saying this. I have texted starling asking if I can transfer over the Web but have received no reply as yet. Any ideas?
  2. I have been to 4 dentists in Thailand. They have all been very good.
  3. There may be violence in the UK but I have never seen any. I have lived in London for 50 years.
  4. Every year in the UK, everyone in the UK, over 60 or with health issues can go to their gp for a flu jab. Last year I went for the second time, I am 74, and the nurse gave me a shingles jab at the same time. Lasts a life time, she said.
  5. Cheap, clean, ensuite, aircon, wifi I stay in guesthouses normally. Good enough for me.
  6. I was a podiatrist. I retired 4 years ago when I was 70. I saw fungal toenails every day. Over the years I bought different expensive kit hyped up by salespeople at trade conferences. Nothing worked. I have some fungal toenails and have tried some topical treatments. I even avulsed a toenail of mine under local anaesthetic to see if that would work. It didn't. Nowadays I file my thickened nails and that's that. BTW, tea tree oil cures nothing.
  7. Years ago I rented a car on line for collection at Perpignan airport in France. I got to the rental office and realised I had forgotten my driving licence. They wouldn't allow me to rent. The companies who rent the motorbikes in Thailand have to swallow the cost of the damaged or written off bikes I guess. Probably deposits don't cover it.
  8. I am in koh lanta at the moment. Many locals and tourists on motorbikes not wearing helmets. Some on phones. Some appear to be driving too fast. I have been here 10 days and haven't seen a policeman.
  9. I bought some diazepam, for my daughter, in a pharmacy in chiang mai last year. My daughter travels a lot for work in UK and her gp near her home won't prescribe much. She takes it when necessary for chronic pain and associated anxiety. Is it possible for me to buy some in chiang mai or krabi?
  10. The electorate were told a lot of lies by the government. We are paying the price now. Why would we want to leave the biggest trading block in the world.
  11. I was cycling past a chiang mai high school the other day in the afternoon when the children were leaving. A policeman was directing the traffic as the unhelmeted kids came out of the school on their motorbikes. The police, the kids, the parents and the school, I guess don't perceive any danger.
  12. I flew with Thai Airways from Heathrow to Bangkok last month. No problems. Took off and arrived on time. I wore a mask but others didn't. Vegetarian meals were good.
  13. When I arrived in Bangkok in January this year, the IO took me to one side and asked me many questions, the first one being 'why are you here? You were here in October. I had been in the phuket sandbox from August to October. My reply was that I am retired, I like Thailand. I am on holiday. Eventually we started talking about English football and he was friendly and stamped my passport with a 60 day visa. He also gave me the impression that I was in future a marked man on their computer system. I extended my visa for a further 30 days in chiang mai with no problem. I have spoken to other people who have endured this process. I really thought he was going to send me back home and was anxious at first. I think it is a power trip or just boredom on the part of the IO. I returned to Thailand on July 6th and sailed through immigration.
  14. I arrived in Bangkok from uk last week. I had a 60 day return ticket but was given a 30 day visa in Bangkok airport which I will extend. On the advice of this forum I bought a throwaway ticket to da nang from onwardflights.com. It was 7 us dollars. I printed it out but nobody asked to see it in London or Bangkok. I flew with Thai Airways.
