Interior ministry and police force declare war on drugs

Why do they have to be ordered to do what should be their daily job anyway! I guess too many of the RTP are in inactive posts. -
Thailand has the highest number of privately owned guns in ASEAN
grandpa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I can never understand why anybody needs a hand gun or any other gun come to that! ALL hand guns should be banned from private ownership. UK did this after the Dunblane shooting with some success. Police should be issued with guns (if they need them) as opposed to having to buy their own, and should hand them back at the end of each shift. As Thailand never enforces anything it is probably pointless making any new legislation. -
How sad ???? This may well be the tip of a coming iceberg as I fear that as the cost of living continue to rise and employers are not prepared to increase the minimum wage above 300 baht per day, more people will become desperate and leave their children either with a relative or, at their wits end, abandon them in the hope that they will be looked after by the state. I find the expression "a good Samaritan" somewhat amusing as it is often used here in this Buddhist country. God bless those poor little mites. ????

When I visited Peru several times, I seem to remember that I had to pay a fee on departure, not on arrival. Those on long term visas i.e those ex-pats living in Peru, were exempt I think. -

Yet another example of the world stopping outside Bangkok! The article states "tropical storm Noru, which is expected to hit some north-eastern provinces this Thursday." North-eastern provinces are already inundated with water and already have floods, but not a mention in the article about preparations in Isaan!

Retiring parliament officials may have their terms extended

I think that this is related to the civil servants who serve Parliament and has nothing to do with extending the time of MPs! -

Thailand named as one of leading countries in world for e-Payment
grandpa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Real time payments should not have to rely on getting a phone to read a QR Code. Thai Banks should issue debit cards that are touch and go. My bank looked at me blankly the last time I renewed it and asked for such a card. Mind you, this is the same bank that takes 4 or 5 days to get me a 12 month statement for immigration purposes as they have to get it from Bangkok! I won't hold my breath for more advanced technology ???? -
In my view, anybody in authority who warns kids in his or her charge, in an aggressive or threatening manner is abusing his/her position. Child abuse takes many forms and if he threatened, or hit the youngster involved, then he should be punished by instant dismissal and lose his pension. You cannot hide behind "I am a respected old school teacher close to retirement" anymore. Respect is not a right, it has to be earned!

Departure/arrival card (TM6) temporary scrapped
grandpa replied to george's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Interestingly enough, I did my 90 day report on-line yesterday and there is no place to enter my TM6 number, which I have been doing for the past 10 years. Approved in les than 30 minutes! Looks like that they are now just going by passport number on their system. -
COVID to Become Communicable Disease under Surveillance
grandpa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I believe that only WHO can declare endemic status. Pandemic definition states :- : occurring over a wide geographic area (such as multiple countries or continents) and typically affecting a significant proportion of the population "How is a pandemic declared? The World Health Organization (WHO) is responsible for declaring when a global pandemic is occurring. The WHO does this by monitoring outbreaks of a disease and taking advice from international health experts. Australia and other countries are, however, likely to take steps to reduce the impact of an pandemic before the WHO makes a formal declaration." https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/what-is-a-pandemic -
Seems you need a master’s degree to handle Thai immigration rules
grandpa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And therein lies the problem! This type of behaviour, employing an agent who bribes the IO with a little sweetener, makes it more difficult for us who do it ourselves for a fraction of the cost, i.e. the correct fee. I learned very early on that you only give the IO the exact money for an extension, (1900THB) as they will always keep the change even if you object. As a Christian, I have always tried to be an honest person and will never get involved in the corrupt practices of agents. -
