  1. I'm not, I work for a US company. But the blame has to be sheeted back to where it belongs. I criticise Australia too, that doesn't make me anti Aussie.
  2. This is targeted killings by gangs against gangs over drug wars and are NOT mass shootings. Huge difference. Furthermore, most of these gangs, particularly the bikie gangs have ties to gangs in the US. Guess where they smuggle most of their guns from?
  3. They came close, they want to arm teachers. https://www.npr.org/2018/03/02/590308832/who-wants-to-arm-teachers-republican-men
  4. For those blaming police defunding for these school massacres: Indeed, additional reports appear to show not only did police not storm the school, for reasons yet unknown, they appear to have prevented desperate parents from doing anything to help save their children, even using force, including a taser, to stop them. And in one case (below,) from the account of one of the children who survived published by CBS affiliate KENS5, police action may have led to the death of one of the students. https://www.rawstory.com/uvalde-police/
  5. Javier Cazares, whose fourth grade daughter, Jacklyn Cazares, was killed in the attack, said he raced to the school when he heard about the shooting, arriving while police were still massed outside the building. Upset that police were not moving in, he raised the idea of charging into the school with several other bystanders. “Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to,” he said. https://apnews.com/article/uvalde-texas-school-shooting-44a7cfb990feaa6ffe482483df6e4683
  6. Why is it not acceptable to spend the money on counselling and social workers while calling the police when needed? Police officers at school School police officers are generally not the best trained in gun massacre situations and sometimes get shot themselves. A campus police officer and a campus safety officer were killed during a shooting at a Virginia college Tuesday afternoon after responding to reports of a "suspicious" person on campus, officials said. https://abcnews.go.com/US/active-shooter-bridgewater-college-campus-authorities-called-scene/story?id=82603576
  7. You are asserting that they would be sold if there was a market for them. The fact is that they are banned from sale. Given that the most popular gun for mass shootings is the AR 15 and that it is very popular I would suggest there is a market for machine guns. Do you support banning AR 15's?
  8. How does the banning of the most egregious guns best suited to mass murder remove the means of protecting yourself? Would you be in favor of allowing machine guns in order to better protect yourself?
  9. The simple conclusion is that if a strict reading of the 2nd amendment coneys an absolute right to unfettered gun ownership then that isn't how it's been applied in practice. There are many guns which are not permitted outside of the military, including machine guns and sawn off shotguns. Furthermore, contrary to such a strict reading, many people are prevented from owning guns. One can thus conclude that the 2nd Amendment does not confer and absolute right to own any guns. https://jacobymeyers.com/illegal-possession-weapons.html
  10. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/5/11/17345214/australia-mass-shooting-margaret-river-osmington Australia marks 25 years since worst mass shooting https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/australia-marks-25-years-since-worst-mass-shooting-2021-04-28/ https://www.aic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-06/draft_of_trends_issues_paper_mass_shootings_and_firearm_control_comparing_australia_and_the_united_states_submitted_to_peer_review.pdf After Mass Gun Killings, Other Nations Changed Course — to Notable Effect Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway: All had a culture of gun ownership, and all tightened restrictions anyway. Their violence statistics now diverge sharply from those of the U.S. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/25/world/europe/gun-laws-australia-britain.html Most people hear these starkly contrasting numbers and conclude that Australia's gun law reforms effectively stopped firearm massacres here. Emeritus Professor Simon Chapman, University of Sydney https://www.sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2018/03/13/gun-laws-stopped-mass-shootings-in-australia.html
  11. Yet again a gun massacre was carried out using the ubiquitous far right mass murderer choice of weapon. I'll leave it up to readers to guess which gun it was but it shouldn't be too hard, it's the one used almost every time.
  12. So, all media that reports that climate change is real and is an emergency is necessarily biased? The real, unbiased news is that CO2 levels, ocean acidity, rising sea levels and melting ice are a crisis. There is NO credible research to the contrary. Want to know why? It would have about as much basis in truth as research into evolutionary theory. Scientists are no longer wondering whether climate change is real or is a problem. They already know the answers. They are focused on how much time we have and how best to deal with it before it's too late. Assuming it isn't already too late and there are plenty of scientists who will tell you that's the case. Climate deniers are like religious zealots, they don't care what the science says.
  13. You have to be kidding? You're taking part in this debate while seemingly completely ignorant of basic facts? US Senate Overwhelmingly Approves More Ukraine Aid https://www.voanews.com/a/us-senate-to-vote-on-ukraine-aid-/6580205.html
  14. Yes, of course. I am really a centrist and I appreciate a good faith debate and a rational argument, irrespective of which side of the political fence it comes from. That can be seen in the likes I give posters, even those I usually disagree with and even on posts I disagree with.
  15. as the right wing are fond of saying, follow the money.
  16. That's probably why they do it, because they know they probably won't have to suffer any consequences. In my country we change governments every ten or 12 years at a minimum just to keep them on the straight and narrow. https://www.rawstory.com/boris-johnson-the-man-who-always-gets-away-with-it/
  17. When you don't provide a rationale for questioning weather he is a "philanthropist" or accusing him of being a "villain" it's a fair assumption.
  18. What I haven't seen here is any kind of admission from the usual suspects that he is very likely right.
  19. and yet you attack left wingers for calling him a liar even when they are right. Pointiung out that the other side lies too doesn't help much when one side is doing most of the lying.
  20. The Guardian reports what scientists say on climate change, they don't make the science. If they reported that Russia was going to attack Ukraine (They did) would you also have said that was biased?
  21. Just getting rid of old ammo. The ship is 40 years old as well and probably about to become an artificial reef.
