  1. They didn't know when they first rolled out those vaccines. In the case of omicron there is little to no immunity against infection whether natural or not.
  2. It's not a clever card, it's what the expert medical advice says. The Australian government tried populism over medical advice and now they are publicly eating crow. Matters of pandemic policy should always be follow the experts and never made political. Australia has also seen covid policy dived along partisan lines and that isn't good for the country.
  3. Stop trolling. No country or doctor has ever said we need a third or fourth booster.
  4. The problem here is that with an infectious disease, deciding what's best for them means also putting others at risk. It's a lot like drunk driving.
  5. and presumably they will mostly get US citizenship eventually and vote. They probably won't be voting for the party which thinks covid is a nothing burger.
  6. People who are not vaccinated against Covid-19 are 97 times more likely to die from Covid-19 than people who are vaccinated and boosted, according to data presented Wednesday by US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky. https://edition.cnn.com/world/live-news/omicron-variant-coronavirus-news-02-02-22/h_dd2cf8efe04c663a823209c61fa09747
  7. I suppose the WHO aren't to be believed on this either, lol. The director of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Europe office says the continent is now entering a "plausible endgame" to the pandemic and that the number of coronavirus deaths is starting to plateau. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-04/europe-covid-pandemic-endgame-who/100803914
  8. I can't help but think there's a bit of schadenfreude here. Strained US hospitals seek foreign nurses amid visa windfall U.S. hospitals are struggling with a shortage of nurses that worsened as pandemic burnout led many to retire or leave their jobs. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases continue to rise and fall, placing tremendous pressure on the health care system https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-immigration-travel-business-health-525b951967525e75ba40a0a03433c3bf
  9. The original post says this The analysis was released in May of 2021 and looks at COVID-19 related deaths in vaccinated versus unvaccinated individuals—only .8% (150) of vaccinated people accounted for the 18,000 COVID-19 deaths in May. It does not mention the whole population of the US. The sample size was 18,000. In your link the sample size was 21. Sample size refers to the number of participants or observations included in a study. https://www.iwh.on.ca/what-researchers-mean-by/sample-size-and-power Got a link to prove that's wrong?
  10. No, it's a sample size of 21 who died. Most of the people of Thailand have never had coronavirus. We are discussing vaccinated vs unvaccinated among the deaths.
  11. Is it gain of research because rand Paul labelled it that or some other reason? If so, what is that other reason? NIH, who co-funded the research over ten years didn't think it was.
  12. Get used to it. Many cars now have dash cams front and rear. There have also been some very well publicised crimes recently have only been prosecuted because somebody took a video.
  13. I was responding to a comment about how the US had achieved a far worse outcome than any of its peer countries. It's all down to politics and the previous guy exploiting low information voters.
  14. That's what happens when a government wants to make absolutely everything into an us vs them thing and includes matters which require bipartisan cooperation like pandemics.
  15. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Army said Wednesday it will immediately begin discharging soldiers who have refused to get the mandatory COVID-19 vaccine, putting more than 3,300 service members at risk of being thrown out soon. The Army’s announcement makes it the final military service to lay out its discharge policy for vaccine refusers. The Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy have already discharged active-duty troops or entry-level personnel at boot camps for refusing the shots. So far, the Army has not discharged any. https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-health-army-27bacdba9d130fd5263e97b179124610

  17. For the unvaccinated, the situation is very different. Omicron is still severe enough that it will lead to debilitating illness and death for many unvaccinated people. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/11/briefing/omicron-deaths-vaccinated-vs-unvaccinated.html
  18. “This is the figure people need to understand – the unvaccinated population only makes up about 8 per cent of all eligible Queenslanders, but currently they’re making up between 20 and 30 per cent of our deaths. https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/queensland/minister-slams-misinformation-on-unvaccinated-covid-19-deaths-20220128-p59s1t.html
  19. I guess when there is an omicron specific vaccine available, otherwise I'm fully vacinated now. I do understand that protection against infection may wane but protection against serious illness remains largely intact. That's the main metric as far as I'm concerned. "Protection against infection and death during the Delta-predominant period and against infection during Omicron emergence were higher among booster vaccine dose recipients, especially among persons aged 50–64 and ≥65 years." https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7104e2.htm
  20. *Deleted post edited out* Well, if you want to risk waiting till you get natural immunity, go right ahead. I'm triple vaccinated now with AZ, Pfizer and Moderna. This week I got notifications on my check in app from virtually everywhere I checked in last week. Tonight I tested negative on a saliva RAT test.
  21. The waning of the vaccines in that article does NOT refer to illness and death, only to infections. If you think otherwise, post a quote where it explicitly says so.
  22. That quote refers to infections, not severe illness or deaths. It's like groundhog day around here. We keep having to counter the same misinformation day after day.
  23. Denmark scraps most pandemic restrictions, no longer considers COVID 'a socially critical disease' the country has a high vaccination rate, officials have said. The Danish government has warned that Denmark could see a rise in infections in the coming weeks and said that a fourth vaccination shot might be necessary. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-02/denmark-scraps-most-covid-restrictions/100797420
