  1. The "equal time" and equal deference demand for conspiracy theories and other wack job ideologies has its roots dating back to 1968 when creationists demanded that creation theory be given equal time in schools alongside evolutionary theory. This was eventually struck down by the courts as unconstitutional. What we have today is a renaissance of culture wars as embodied by "cancel culture" and push back against attempts to correct history (example, removal of confederate statues and symbols) and the advancement of racism disguised as critical race theory. Much of it is driven by the ascending and ever more militant evangelical right who see their influence diminishing.
  2. No, it's because conservative politicians and people who don't care about the environment won't protect it.
  3. "science" has never been the problem. "science" was telling us in the 60's that both land clearing and fossil fuels were problems. It's unbelievable how the dark ages is having a renaissance in the 21'st century.
  4. More damage is caused by CO2 pollution than a few electric cars burning.
  5. How many people died or will die because they contract the virus from the unvaccinated? This is what the antivax libertarians refuse to contemplate and why it's becoming manadatory to get vaccinated for high contact situations.
  6. This is why equal time and deference to opinion is no longer always appropriate.
  7. Probably the worst risk facing us is that anti vaxxers will become the vector for an immune escape variant which is even more infectious and deadly than the delta variant.
  8. One inconvenient fact that anti-vaxxers choose to ignore or deny is that a third of all unvaccinated people who get infected suffer long term issues from the virus, especially mental health issues.
  9. I would tend to agree that lifestyle obesity, tobacco use, drinking alcohol should result in higher medical insurance premiums. Further, treatment for a road accident while drunk and like issues should have higher co-payments.
  10. You are completely correct. However, it does reduce the likelihood of infection by 90% and the likelihood of death by an even larger factor.
  11. That established agenda is the survival of our species. Remove science and we are doomed. Climate change is a case in point.
  12. Wrong. The wartime internment camps are an example of a temporary removal of rights.
  13. There's actually method in this madness. I always wondered how anyone could be so loony as to promulgate conspiracy theories which were patently impossible to believe. Then I read an article which explained it. The idea is that the more wacky a theory is the more difficult it is to argue against. This absolves them from the social responsibility of having to justify their points of view. The big lie and the vaccine microchips are cases in point.
  14. Several of them, I'd go to IT City, you may pay more but the job will be good. I haven't had any bad experiences anywhere there. Just make sure you specify branded parts. I can't rememebr the names because it's been a couple of years since I was there. It's not as sleazy as the article makes out.

  16. *Deleted post edited out* I think it means a lot about the potential for long term side effects. Your trying to imply that the FDA never asked themselves what could go wrong? It's not like mRNA technology wasn't tested on humans over 10 years ago so there is some basis for confidence. On the other hand you have not even a scintilla of evidence that there are long term side effects and disingenuously trying to convince others that there is some. You yourself have admitted you would take it just for convenience. What you are doing is the very definition of spreading FUD. And for purely political reasons because there's no science in your reasoning. We don't know that an asteroid won't wipe out the planet next week but you'd go around telling people that it's going to happen because there's no absolute proof that it won't. Your stance is inane.
  17. It's not that at all. They will say that three guys they know got covid and took ivermectin and didn't die. So, obviously, ivermectin is an effective treatment. Even the anti-vaxxers aren't that stupid that they believe this tripe. It's all political. All their circuitous, anti-science arguments and conspiracy theories are about hiding their real agenda. It's just politics. Nothing more than that. We waste our time trying to appeal to logic and reason.
  18. At least we link them so we know what they are. Are you afraid to provide links or what is the problem?
  19. From the article you quoted Human trials of cancer vaccines using the same mRNA technology have been taking place since at least 2011. ‘If there was a real problem with the technology, we’d have seen it before now for sure,’ said Prof. Goldman.
