Interesting to see that there's still a fair number of negative people on here, and those who want the lockdown to continue. Maybe they are retired and live out of town.

Yes, many locals in the same situation want lockdown to continue, but most people want and need to get back to being able to earn money, spend money and get their kids to school.

If the cases are way higher than reported (which I believe to be the case) and deaths and hospitalisations level off or decrease, then we need to open up. Gradually yes, but start opening up on Sept. 1st.

If something we are learning from the lockdowns is that Schools and heavy Traffic are related. Perhaps we should consider a remote educational approach as a viable option for the sanity of our cities.

  2. What a horrible place! If you do not get a positive. 40+ CT PCR test, you get murdered. Fortunately, the Mass Mierda reports a 150% increase in foreign investment since the last TV terror outbreak campaing started back in June. Everything will be fine. Just relax and go back to sleep. We are in good hands. Everyone will be jabbed soon and tourists happy to get ripped will flock by millions again.

  3. It fascinates me that golf courses and large shopping malls are open for business as usual (decorated with hydrogels and QR codes) while vendors living off marginal profits in fresh markets are punished.

It looks like a very selective virus. Exclusive and posh I would dare say. It seems more like something installed in the lower echelons of society than in anyone's immune system. Interesting.

Problem here for expats (or others for that matter) is that it's not beyond the realms of possibility that if you want to travel in the future to, say the US or Europe, then one of the conditions may be that you need to have had an approved vaccine by the destination country. All well and good if it's Moderna/AstraZeneca/Pfizer etc. you've had but Sinovac probably won't cut it as I doubt it'll be approved by lots of Western countries for reasons of not performing well to the political.

As the only vaccine available at the moment here in Thailand is the Sinovac one, unless you have access to the government's secret stash of Pfizer for the rich elite family types, then probably better to hold up and wait-it-out till other vaccine options turn up in private hospitals.

I can't wait to see all the social strata you mention taking Pfizer.

  5. Anyway, the bottom line is that "Delighted expatriates in Korat received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine".

It is a day of joy and celebration for them and we should rejoice too. Doing what makes you happy in this life is what really matters.

Moreover, more and more volunteers are needed for this experiment so that the crazy theories of Nobel laureates like Mr. Vin Rouge can take shape, so my sincere congratulations to the lucky pioneers and all my thanks to them from the bottom of my heart.

    Sincerely.

  6. Quote

the Finance Ministry now predicts the economy will grow just 2.3% in 2021, with tourism revenue expected to reach a mere 170 billion baht.

1 - The Financy Minsitry predicted the economy sinking -6.x% a few days ago.

2- I doubt Thailand will reach "a mere" 170 billion baht with the big cut on foreign capital moving around, unless we are now cooking the books and all expats and their expenses now magically become income from tourism, in addition to the money spent of Thai national holiday makers. Yes, those ones in saving mode due to the economic hardship.
