  1. Hi guys

I am just looking for peoples opinions and advice.

Basically I would like to do some housesitting and/or petsitting in Phuket...mainly Rawai/chalong/Naiharn maybe Phuket town etc

As I usually stay in basic accomodation I would be interested in doing this as it is a nice experience for me living in comfortable accomodation and helps people out whilst they are away so they don't have to place their pets in kennels etc. I have done some of this already and I did a lot of dogsitting in england in my own home, I also have experience working in dog kennels.

I would not be bothered about charging for it as I gain from this also and if I did charge I am guessing there would be some implications if found out as I am on a tourist visa...right?

Do you think this is something people would be interested in? Is it something I can do on a tourist visa or is it still now allowed as they are strict with everything so farang spend lots of money (lol) Would I need to go through/provide any checks etc? As I assume some people would have trust issues letting a stranger stay in their home etc.

    Thanks!

  2. Hi

I was interested in some peoples opinions....

Basically I am interested in Petsitting/housesitting in Phuket mainly Rawai/chalong areas..

As I usually live in basic accomodation and I have just moved from Thalang (I have started another thread looking for accomodation in Rawai), I would be interested in petsitting or housesitting in peoples homes whilst they go on holiday. This is something that I am already doing and it is a nice experience. It is something I would not particularly be bothered about charging for as I gain here,(I get to stay in comfortable accomodation), and if I did charge I am guessing if somebody found out it would have implications as I am on a tourist visa right?

So do you think this is something people would be interested in? would there be any checks I would have to go through/provide etc? Anybody have any advice on how to go about it or is anyone already doing this sort of thing?

I assume quite a few people would prefer their pets to stay at home rather than go in kennels and would be up for saving the cash too but there is always the trust issue on their side.

    Thanks

  3. How much is the sleeper train and can you book online? the only issue is we would be taking the overnight bus from phuket to bangkok so that means hanging about in the day for the sleeper train...

Why did you prefer the sleeper train out of curiosity? The thing that puts me off flying is how much of a pain it is getting to airports and usually costs a lot on top of the airfare aswell it all ends up being a lot.

    Thanks for your help.

  4. affordable ambition? i'm not sure what this means? you mean can I afford to stay in Thailand? not really lol but I will stay as long as possible which means living and doing things like this in the cheapest way possible. I don't need luxuries like a lot of people just only have the need to make the most of my time here, have the experience I am aiming for and to only go home when I have to. This is my last trip in Thailand, after this I have to go home and grow up....trying to avoid for as long as I can so want to stretch my money if I can.....in other words "kii nok" I think is the correct term for me ha ha

  5. Flight to Udon often as cheap as other travel. If bus or train go all the way to border at Nong Khaki.

Sent from my i-mobile i-note WIFI3 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Really? which airline? if this is the case and the difference is only around 500 bhat or something like that I would rather pay the extra.

A bus to BKK just below 700 bhat and i'm assuming from there to the border about the same?

Please let me know which airline and I will check it out, but how about the cost also from the airport to Vientienne?

    Thanks

  6. Hi thanks for all the replies...

So I think in the long term the best option for us will be to go to Laos and get the double entry rather than making two expensive trips.

Can anyone give any advice on how we would do it if we were to do it by ourselves? rather than go with a tour company and a rough idea of costs?

Also any recommendations for budget places to stay in Laos?

I know it goes something like get a bus to bkk, then a bus to udon thani?, then a bus over into laos? or do we need to get a taxi somewhere in between...

Looking for the cheapest way but also hassle free too...i.e. if it costs a bit more to save a lot of hassle doing something rather than something else then I would love to hear your suggestions. However flying and things like that are not in our price range. Just thinking it may be easier to go straight from BKK and onwards, we would get to BKK early am, so if we went with a tour company we would have to wait until the pm to go. Would rather just get it out of the way.

    Cheers

  7. Thanks for the replies :)

Flying is not really an option as I am looking for the cheapest option :P

What is the price for obtaining a single entry in Penang? is it the same cost as getting a double entry in Laos?

Can anyone recommend me any of those companies in Bangkok?

I am just looking at the cheapest possible way to do this, may not sty for the 6 months but would like to get 6 months just in case, but if it works out the same (ish) or only a little more to go to Penang twice instead, which seems less hassle, then I may do that but my gut tells me the single entry will not be much cheaper.

We both only have one double entry tourist visa on this trip, we returned to the UK for over a year after the last trip.

  8. Hi everyone. Hope you all had a lovely weekend :)

So i'm sure this has been asked before but my computer is really useless and slow and so I can't search through previous topics unfortunately.

Anyway I am in Phuket and I need to obtain two tourist visas (bf and I) double entry. However, I understand that Malaysia do not issue double entry tourist visas and so our only option would be to go to Laos or Cambodia.

Are there any tour companies who go from Phuket does anyone know? or would we need to go to Bangkok first, or shall we just take a bus to a border ourselves? we are really trying to avoid this because we don't want all the hassle and just want to go with a group if possible. We don't want to do the trip to Malaysia and pay the same money to only get a single entry visa it is not worth the time and money.

So if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated, I am not sure if this is the correct place to post it or maybe I should be posting in the Phuket forum?

    Thank you :)

  9. Sorry, also what do you mean by contrast on the MRI scan? and would another hospital be happy for me to do the MRI scan somewhere else? I know they would push for me to get it done with them. Also any experiences with Yanhee hospital? does anyone know if it is any good as it is the closest one to me that is reputable as far as I am aware...I am in salaya near nakhom pathom

  10. Hi

    Thanks for your helpful responses.

I know that weight gain can sometimes be an issue with a prolactinoma but not sure of other side effects. I have tried to read up on it but some of the information is contradictory and I am not sure what is correct.

I was going to go to Bumrungrad as a friend of mine said they are good with checking blood etc but I will have a look at the other link in a moment, did you go to the other hospital? It has been some time since I had my MRI i'd imagine maybe 3 or 4 years! so I expect they would ask me to repeat from what you are saying.

I have had these issues in the UK but they seem to be magnified out here and I also think I am missing some vital things from my diet as I am living on the thai diet of rice, chicken/pork and fried veg eeek.

What does a 'health screening' involve? and the costs of one?

    Thank you

  11. Hi all

So i'm not sure if this has been asked before but here goes...

Like the title says I am looking for a decent endocrinologist in Bangkok, one that will actually listen and try to help me solve my problem.

I have a Prolactinoma and I think it needs treatment/medication. The docs in the UK said my prolactin levels were not high enough for medication at the time, but from what I have read and heard from others it is way above normal and I wished I had seeked a second opinion at the time.

It is affecting my health and I am getting run down a lot, aswell as difficulty to lose weight,I eat healthy and run/exercise 4 days a week twice a day).

I am going to get a blood test to check and see if I am anaemic as I have a lot of side effects of that too...pale, run down/lethargic, hair falling out, feeling itchy, headaches, mouth ulcers and stys constantly. But I am also going to check the hormone levels for my prolactin.

I know from tests in the UK I have a Prolactinoma as I have had an MRI scan before. The problem is when you go to the doctors here they seem to want to go through all the same procedures although I can happily tell them I have this issue,(maybe they don't believe and they need proof I don't know). I can't afford to pay for the MRI which I think is around 15thou bhat or justify paying for it. As it is a pre-existing condition my insurance will not cover it.

Because of my situation/reponsibilties here I cannot simply return home and wait around on the NHS to see specialists etc. So anyway my question is has anyone had any records sent over from the UK? will the NHS do this? surely it is my right to the records due to the data protection act? or am I being completely ignorant and stupid here?

I don't mind to pay for a good specialist here, I just can't see why I should pay for and go through unneccesary tests which have already been done.

I really appreciate any help/comments and experiences.

    Thanks :)

  12. It's three months in advance for UK but not sure about channel islands, I have asked some of my friends here for you and can ask more people if you like? I don't know if you can take them on the bus or not, I know you can on the train. I tried to take my cat on the bus before (when I had one) and was not allowed but I had hid her in my handbag, she was quiet the whole way until the police checks came on the bus ha

  13. Hi

I previously had some Orthaheel Tide sandals which unfortunately got broken :( I am desperately trying to find a new pair and as I stupidly do not have a back up, I have been wearing unsuitable shoes which has caused my PF to flare up again and I am having difficulty walking.

I can only seem to find these sandals in America and have them shipped over but that is going to take time and I need to be able to leave my apartment :(

Does anyone know any stockists in Thailand pref. BKK? or perhaps one is Aus would be quicker to be shipped?, however ideally I would like to be able to get a taxi to a shop and just buy them now :/

Any help would be greatly I appreciated. Pleeeeease :'(

  14. Hi

I am wondering if anyone can help. I am looking for a private French and also a Spanish tutor, preferably females and native speakers from each country.

I have tried looking through the Classifieds but I find this website really hard to navigate there are so many results which come up, i'm not sure how to narrow it down and don't have time to search through them all. So if anyone has any advice on where to look? or if there is a school which does group classes from english language, (I am being a bit hopeful here but maybe for international students?), this would be even better.

    Any info would be great

    Cheers
