Part of the charm of living here is the chaos.

If no chaos it's getting boring pretty quickly, might as well move home then.

Guzzi850m2. Only just found your comment. That would be the Le Mans eh?

    Superb stuff.

I had 2 Kawi 750's; GT & GPZ back old days.

Nothing came near a Le Mans, even a Triumph Trident (close)????.

Yes, agreed - the chaos can be quite calming.

Prior to Covid some surveys showed that 86% of all arrivals were lower or lower middle income tourists from China, Malaysia and India. After Covid? Far fewer of them and maybe 12 to 20  wealthy tourists a year. Maybe.

The goons are successfully doing everything in their power to strip Thailand of much of it's character. Khao Son Road. Samui, Phuket, Pattaya. Without the nightlife that will likely NOT revive after nearly 2 years of consistent and deliberate sabotage, Thailand is finished as a tourist destination. Millions of jobs lost.

One can only hope one day Prayuth and his henchmen are held responsible at the Hague, or exiled from Thailand. The crimes being committed against the Thai people are unforgivable.

    Swampy recently at 10am.

    Why is that?

Bloke, do you live here in Thailand? Naturally my mates will not come. Buy beer from a 7/11 or a wholesale outlet and sit in hotel room.

Bar girls need more than that. Ridiculous comment.

Everything is closed, shuttered and filthy. Nice place to live for me away from the rubbish, but it ain't party time any more for a tourist.

Aussies are free again from 1st of November. Even DFAT dropped the blank "do not travel" recommendation, the travel insurances are going to be valid again.

Gearbox. Not quite true. Some states have opened up while other states/territories remain closed.

Australia is a bit of a jumble with the PM probably the most jumbled, being trod on by local government members.

    Australia making Thailand look good.

Bad news for all the ignored participants in the tourist trade , such as bar girls . taxi drivers , tour guides , bus drivers , airport workers , room cleaners , laundry workers , street cleaners , street food sellers ,immigration staff , masseurs , building maintenance workers . The list could go on yet there is little said about the real unemployment caused by the pandemic .

Sadly your comment is so true.

Coconut General followed Australia and New Zealand in attempting to kill or ignore the virus.

    Not gunna work.

I met the first wife in the Lido bar in Saigon in 1967, 32 years later I had to make a change. In 1999 I met my friends secretary in bangkok, 21 years later we're still together...even tho I didn't divorce my first wife!  Both are loving women and great cooks, 3 children with the first, none with the second. I wouldn't change a second of my life!!

Always refreshing to hear someone say "Wouldn't Change for a Second".

    Good on-ya Bloke.

Yes, up to 125cc. unfortunately obtaining a licence does not give you instant road sense, and some of these small bikes now can go at a a fair clip. I remember when I was young, yes, a loooong time ago, but a 16 year old was limited to a provisional licence, and you had to ride a moped of no more than 75cc, and it had to have peddles if I remember correctly.

In our village I see children as young as seven or eight who can only just reach the floor on tiptoes riding to the shop to get a beer for Pappa. The saddest thing is that it is only one hundred yards down the road.

"One hundred yards down the Road".

My missus back in her village will do the same to see her friend down the soi. Walk or use the pushbike I bought is not an option.

These days the pushbike gets me out and about.

Whilst outside for the last 18 months, I have paid full support for my wife and child, the rent, food, utilities, travel, school. You are misplaced in your assumptions

gacca (strange comment) and Richard, I do not doubt that you have taken good care of family.

My comment was a general one and not aimed at anyone in particular.

But, I do believe it is not all that hard to get into Thailand if one so desires.

So many comments every thread of why people can not come back.

If they want to come back they will?

    Cheers.

  9. Is it just me or has something been lost in the translation again?

Opening up, in govt terms seems to imply a airport is open.

To locals it means nothing unless they can work with customers.

Same same bottom line. None of my old partying crowd will likely ever come again. Girlriends $$ now bye-bye.

Yup, something that wasn't broken sure got fixed.

  10. I'm surprised at some of the responses.

This temporary moving on has been happening for decades or longer across the world. First world countries and small backwater towns do it regularly when the Olympics or a village fair etc come to town.

A bus ticket to (somewhere), couple of nights in a arranged motel, a package with clothes, some food vouchers and maybe shaving gear.....it's been happening world wide for ages. I saw it first hand in Aus.

    Nothing new here.
