I live in Bangkok since before the SkyTrain was built.

Now there is less pollution than years ago. Many years ago, the small green busses were the worst of all of them. Then, years later, the red busses were still bad. Now I see only seldom vehicles with black smoke.

Personally, I got used to the pollution. I ride motorcycle in the middle of the city, and I don't think it feels worse on any month compared to another months.

I also go to bars where people smoke. I am so used to it that if you would ask me a day later if anybody was smoking in bar A or B I would be able to tell you. It was just "normal".

At home, living in a high floor, the air is cleaner. But for some month (I think worst is about January to March) I use an air purifier in the bedroom. That improves the air quality considerably.

For me I only need this when I sleep. Day time, sitting on a desk or sofa, I don't really know how good the air quality is.

True. I see far less buses pumping black smoke.

More often you see  converted pick-up trucks with black smoke when they try to impress someone.

Move to Malaysia instead of Thailand over this tax issue....hahahaha....thanks for the good laugh.  It's always good for a chuckle when expats in Thailand threaten to move to Malaysia.  Of all the countries in the world Malaysia.....LOL

    Keep horses back.
I did not say that I move to Malaysia.

And by the way, I have a 5 year visa stamp in my passport. I can leave and come back as it suits me.

I think everyone knows thailand is incompetent, but the point is that people are tired of ever changing rules and the lack of a stable climate.

I know a lot people who start to experiment living in vietnam etc instead, this is already a trend since before covid, only get worse by the Year.

Same thailand is more quiet by the year.

I thought about VN too but very difficult to get a visa.
    Malaysia on the other hand...

Which tree? I live close to "Tree" on Sukhumvit 40. Surely not that one.

Also the 120,000 rent for S47 is for large units that cost close to 29 million, not 22. Rent in Thailand is very negotiable. Anyway, that building seems to be a bit of an exception as it looks to be owner occupied mostly.

I mentioned the wrong condo in Ekkamai.
    Not Tree but Rhythm.
68m2 easy around 50-60k in rent.
If you only pay 22k, that must be in an old building.
Can you name the building you are renting in Ekkamai at 22k?

    Would be interested.

Exactly. And that is the price for 60-70sqm 22 million thonglor condo that rents out for 70,000 baht a month. I can send you the endless links.

Also, I do not live in Isaan, I live in Ekkamai. I rent a 9 million baht condo for 26,000 a month.

I totally believe he is a smart businessman, but like every other fool that comes to Thailand he is absolutely clueless.

    Really.
    Have a look at S47.

    Rent 120k a month.

Happy for you. 26k in Ekkamai is a good deal.
Have a look at Tree condo in Ekkamai.
    60m2 2 bed, 2 bath.

    60k

He should be grateful if Thailand implements the laws. The 22 million thonglor condo probably rents for 70,000 baht maximum. Probably saved this fool a lot of money long run.

You do not have a clue.
70k in Thong Lor rents you a 60m2 condo.

He's not a fool. A very smart business man.

Sure, in Isaan, you can build a mansion for 5 Million.

Have a look at Nana station, there is a condo, prices up to 140 Million Baht.

I had a look at Tree condo in Ekkamai. 68m2, 70k a month.

Yes - I agree - but being prepared rather than reacting late 'oh bugger what do I do now' is a wise move IMO.

If you really think that this is not potentially a huge problem (for some of us) then read this:

Sending a large money transfer to Thailand? What to know about taxes | Xe Blog

Quote:  Income Tax  The gift tax might or might not apply when you send money to Thailand, but the income tax almost always applies. Additionally, Thailand’s tax penalties are rather harsh. High fines and even jail time are rather common, even for rather innocent mistakes.

Penalties and interest on unpaid taxes are usually 1.5% per month. So, by the time the revenue department notices the error and sends a notice, the taxpayer might already owe thousands of baht in penalties and interest. Fines for unpaid taxes usually run between about ฿1,000 THB ($33 USD) and ฿200,000 THB ($6,700 USD).

Banks are legally required to report all remittance and other international funds transactions. So, even if recipients do not get a form, if they do not add the remittance amount to their income, it’s only a matter of time before the revenue department notices the delinquency and takes action.

On a related note, when you send money to Thailand, especially if the transfer is large, Thai law requires senders to specify the purpose.

IMO it is always better to know about it and make plans, than to find out too late and then your planning is rushed and under a cloud of hectic worry.  IMO cooly and calmly planning for things now is a wise move.  But as the Thai girls always say - 'up to you'.

But as the Thai girls always say - 'up to you'.

And they say: You are thinking too much.

Agreed....  Well, I wouldn't take an MG through it anyway !!! :giggle:

Seriously, though... Don't all modern vehicles have sealed bearings ?

The rain gets so heavy here at times, driving through heavy rain even when the roads are not flooded could be problematic otherwise.

Flooding such as this, which is not completely uncommon is just one of the reasons I have an SUV....

I've been in too many situations over years in a regular sedan where I can feel and hear the flood water lapping at the underside of the car... Its not a comfortable feeling and happens less in something slightly higher (even a few cm can make the difference).

My Ranger enjoys driving through the floods.
