I was hoping for an agent free thread. We all know it used to be easy to open a bank account on a visa exempt or tourist visa but not in the last 5 years or so.

You can still pay an agent 4500 to get a bank account opened but there might be added costs for a Residence Certificate and useless insurance required

I was really happy the non-imm O seemed to be all powerfull in bypassing all that crap and bank account cost 0 baht

At Bangkok Bank you can open a current account with a tourist visa.
I have not found any other bank that allows it.
Sometimes you will be asked to take out accident insurance during the first year.

At soi  Chalermphrakiat 19, there are many ladies' hair salons, nail shops, makeup shops and other establishments for ladies at good prices. All with Thai clientele.

Don't get sucked into the OP's post. No way is he serious and it's just another of his mindless wind ups. Along with certain other members, they should be banished from the forum.

In fact, he is the only forum member I have blocked.

It also is a result of the actions of looky-loos, who might wander in and do a circle of the place, get a free eyeful and wander out again. Many think they have a right to do that....

In fact, when I go to a club, especially clubs like the Wind Mill with many areas, nooks and crannies, and two different floors, I do consider myself entitled to go in, see the atmosphere, and decide whether to stay or I don't like it and prefer to leave.

Given the drop in the level of clubs lately and the lack of atmosphere in many, I can try several clubs until I find one I like, sit down, order a drink and stay a while.

I certainly don't consider myself obligated to stay in a club if when I enter I don't like what I see.

Never will step into either of those two Agogos they own again. Security are thugs. One and only time I walked into their club the thug outside raised his hand to strike me be because I walked in and saw how ugly the girls were and walked right out. On exit he raised his hand up with an angry face to strike me, but I didn't flinch and just walked away. Thugs in that place. That dude still works at the front door. I will remember his face every time I pass that place.

In December I went to Wind Mill a couple of times and I had to go somewhere else because neither the girls nor the atmosphere were like in years past.
The last time I went, you had to pay directly to enter. We turned around and left without entering. When they charge you to enter a place, it already gives you an idea that it is not a place where those who enter want to stay.

Imagine needing to go to Jomtien Immigration on the 17th, 18th or 19th April and coming soaked from head to toe in water. How does Immigration deal with soaked foreigners coming in to do their extensions? Do they have a number of staff with mops in hand ready to mop up all the wet floors in all their 3 buildings?

For a procedure like this, I think I would take a taxi from the door of my house to the Immigration door. I wouldn't risk going out and doing the tour on foot or by songtaew.

Pattaya is good if you do not need a car to get around at busy days and times.

However a boring location if you enjoy motorbike riding, diving, hiking, kayaking, climbing, but for an average retired expat, great. I might relocate there after 70 years old, and time to leave Isan.

Diving in Isaan? In Pattaya I do dive often.
If you are looking for a quiet place for retirees over 70 years old, I see Hua Hin as more appropriate.

I wouldn't mind giving to people in real need but even here you are not sure if it's scam. The women you see near The Avenue with a baby/child on the floor. I read that they are just scams not real homeless people.

In fact, I remember one in that area who was with several children. The baby she was holding was never the same and someone told me that she rented it to beg on the street.

Pattaya lost its "charm" when the Pig 'N Whistle went.

I don't think we have the same idea about what a "great restaurant" is.
We accept that London Steak is the best option in Buriram for Western food, but that doesn't make it a great restaurant.
Anyway, thanks for the information, I'll make a note of it in case I ever go to Buriram.

And, of course, in Pattaya there are many great restaurants, both Western and Thai food, which is normal for such a touristy place.

None of them are English food, of course.

I don't recommend them at all.

I was just there and they had no runs going the whole month. They don't do a run unless at least three people sign up for the same day and there were zero people signed up. A waste of the trip over there.

Makes me wonder about the positive reviews on here.

    I don't understand.
When I went in December they were full every day (only 6 people travel in the van) and I was lucky to be able to find a free space for ten days later.
Maybe December is high season, I don't know.

It is possible that this month they are closed and only organize trips on request, I don't know. I'm just guessing. Maybe because of Songkram.

    As usual, complete idiots.

There was absolutely NO problem with beach road being two way, yes, traffic was slow because people were admiring the sights, but you had the option of simply going one street over to the second road (or Theppraya road, dunno what they call it) if you wanted to get wherever you're going faster!

I understood that it would only be one-way during the execution of the works.

So, anyone with many entries to Thailand with tourist visa or visa waiver, 4th or 5th entry to Thailand via air will be coin toss, you can be denied entry for no reason, and you'll be deported. The usual 'reason' to deny entry is 12/2, 'lack of funds to sustain stay in Kingdom'.

Do they have to be in cash or does it suffice to show the balance in my Thai bank account?

From memory mine was about 3 hours 15 min to get there (break in middle) and 3.5 hours back (incl free lunch stop). So I guess that leaves about 2-2.5 hours at border.

I just reclined my seat and slept most of the way to border so it wasn't a problem for me.

We left at 5:30 in the morning from the Queen Victoria Inn offices on Soi 6.
We arrived at the border at 9:30. We completed all the procedures and at 10:15 we were already in the van returning to Pattaya.
We stopped for lunch from 12 to 12:30 and arrived back at the offices on Soi 6 at 2:30 p.m.

Just enough time at the border for an agent to accompany you to the queue outside Thailand, stamp your passport, walk across the border, get to Cambodian passport control (where another agent is waiting for you), stamp your entry into Cambodia, stamp your departure from Cambodia, walk back across the border, seal entry into Thailand and return to the coach after a quick visit to the bathroom.

In fact, since I was in Cambodia I would have liked an hour free to see something, even if it was a market, but everything went very quickly and almost without queues.

There was no need to pay anything there at any time, not even the entry visa to Cambodia.

We made a quick stop on the way to Cambodia to go to the bathroom and have a quick breakfast (not included in the price) and on the way back to Pattaya we stopped to eat at a restaurant. The food was good and was included in the visa run price.
