  1. They now say, they are not sure where to bring him, but should be an oculoplastic surgeon.  Because he has a fractured orbita wall. According to their eye doctor,  the double vision is not a neurological problem.

The family is supposed to choose the hospital together with their eye doctor on Monday - it's probably best to follow his recommendation.

Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai lists 3 oculoplastic surgeons on their website (no idea, whether they will be actually working during the holiday period):

    Dr Praelada Wongsirimetee

    Dr Suphitcha Pantarote

    Dr Laddawan Methakittrakul

All seem to be from Chiang Mai University, and normally work in Bangkok Hospital once or twice a week. So, maybe Sriphat is a better option.

    Any recommendations?

  2. A young friend is in McCormick Hospital after a head trauma yesterday.

The CT scan showed some small bleeding in the brain, the neurosurgeon said it's nothing for surgery.  He is fully conscious, can talk.

But he also has some bleeding behind one eye, and double vision, and the ophthalmologist wants to refer him to Prasat Hospital,  supposedly they have eye specialists.

Money is no object,  and I am wondering whether Bangkok  Hospital or Ram wouldn't be a better choice? Who will be actually working, anyway?

Of course I have. My bank is about 20 ks from home and living up country their staff do not speak English, then there's the waiting time.

@CharlieH gave you the complete and correct answer.

    SWIFT code plus account number.

As for addresses: it's ok to use the address of your branch,  doesn't really matter. Including their phone number doesn't hurt.

Many banks also want that you include your address,  preferably with phone number.

Yeah, but still good luck with being actually able to speak with someone whose grasp of English is greater than a 2-year-old's in my experience, though!

The English of most call center agents is better than that of most non-native speakers I have met in Thailand. Certainly better than that of the farang who populate Pattaya, including many of the native speakers there.

    There you go then.

What Thai people think traditionally and what the law says, are two different things.

According to this thread,  there seems to be no universal answer to my question - it depends on the situation/legal context,  in different situations age may be calculated differently.

Section 19 and 25 of the Civil and Commercial Code, for instance,  stipulate that for these 2 situations (ceasing to be a minor, ability to leave a will) age is counted by "completed" years.

Completed years in the West, the year yr in , n Thailand

59 in Europe in your 60th year in Thailand.

I know this,  but do Thais really retire the day after their 59th birthday because now they "are 60"?

Is a girl not a minor anymore the day after her 17th birthday?

I find this hard to believe.

  7. 3 days after my 59th birthday,  my hospital wrote in my patient's file "age 60" :1zgarz5:

My niece just turned 17 and tells everyone now she is legally grown up, 18 y.o.

It never occurred to me Thai officialdom might calculate the age the same way Thais colloquially do it.

IMHO I would still not qualify for retirement at 60 or the senior MRT card (for 60 y.o.).

And my niece is not 18, so no driver's license etc.

    Am I right?

I bank with Kasikorn, I haven't registered my face with them, yet I can readily use the K+ app for any transaction up to 49,999 above that it tells me I need to register my face at my branch. I can't be bothered and am happy with the workaround of sending multiple transactions less than 50k.

Something's not right, I would ask to speak to the manager.

    Amazing.

Call center said it's not possible - I very much suspected that they  handle every customer differently.  That's the whole point of AI which they are so proud of.

Not a lot of choice for when it comes to Unlimited data via a Prepaid SIM. AIS 10 Mbps. GoMo 15Mbps. TRUE 20Mbps.

GoMo(AIS) offers the best value, at 259 baht per 30 days. Thai registration only.

    Thx

I never heard of GoMo, can you elaborate?

  10. Very often,  at times like Friday afternoon our internet from true fiber breaks down.

It usually comes back quite soon, but today they told me, it will not come back today.

I called AIS and it turned out, AIS fiber doesn't serve this condo, only true.

    That explains a lot.

The work around is mobile internet from AIS (and maybe cancel true completely).

    Any other ideas?

I tried to withdrawal money this morning from a Bangkok Bank ATM. I needed 25,000 baht, and it required a face scan - "smile with no teeth showing, smile with teeth showing, blink three times". It was always rejected. I kept lowering the withdrawal amount - 5,000 baht required the scan, but 4,000 baht went through. So I stood there and did seven withdrawals.

Their system is buggy and creepy.

You tried to withdraw cardless or with your ATM card?

Check your transfer limits in the app. If not set yet may have to use facial scan.

I don't understand, what do you mean?

Transfer limits used to be 20,000, so higher than 200. But Kbank's algorithm will reset transfer limits every month to a value determined by them (info from their call center). I think they probably didn't change it to less than 200.

Right now, I have no access to the app at all, in lack of the facial scan (which they cannot do)

For that kind of small-amount PromptPay payment, I don't even use my bank apps anymore. That's what TrueMoney is perfect for. Worth considering, at least as a backup option.

    Sounds good.

I have never been interested in TrueMoney. There was a thread about it, but AN is not searchable...

Do you have to connect your TrueMoney to your bank account,  or can you just use it as a prepaid account?

More likely a case of paranoia reaching unseen levels with local banking regulators in the Bank of Thailand, I think. Either that, or the possibility that said regulators are a bunch of sadists who delight in inflicting the maximum pain and misery humanly possible on personal bank account holders.

Yipee! Can't wait for K+ Mk Whatever to be rolled out, which will no doubt necessitate me having to fork out a small fortune on a new phone just to get the bloody thing to work.

The last time I had to buy a new phone to satisfy Kbank is already 8 months ago, so sure, it's time to buy a new one
