It's not about the cost of traveling. Many foreigners who live here like it here, for whatever reasons (girls, Thai family, avoid military service, the temples...). The ones with money will still like it if everything is on average 50% more expensive (the effect of paying 35% tax on all remittances). The ones without money don't pay 35% tax anyway, as outlined many times in this thread. Snowbirds are in a different situation. Someone who usually stays 190 days a year may choose to cut it down to 179 days.

I called the bank's call center. They say I can register my TIN at the bank if I want, I don't have to. If I register my TIN no withholding tax on interest will be withheld of the first 20000 Baht of interest. If I don't register my TIN, withholding tax of 15% will be withheld from the first Baht of interest. (I had heard about the 20000 thing but I didn't know this is how it works. Afaik i get zero interest anyway.)

What type of Doctor/surgeon/specialist

That used to be a small hospital, much smaller than places like Chula or Siriraj, or KKU hospital. Have they expanded? -
Thai woman arrested in Taiwan for prostitution in Taiwan

"taipei" is the local pronunciation of ไทย ไป thai pai " where Thais go" -

"You are not Thai!" Have you never heard this excuse for applying the same rules differently for Thais and foreigners? Examples: According to sec 42(23) of the Revenue Code, mutual funds (no nationality mentioned) are tax-free. But much earlier in this thread it has been pointed out that you probably shouldn't try this with foreign mutual funds. A leading financial institution here treats Thais (de facto no report) and foreigners (report everybody, no matter where they are tax resident) differently when it comes to crs (see the CRS-thread). Have you ever tried to buy government bonds? Foreigners are usually allowed to buy them, but the first reflex of many branch managers is: "You are not Thai!" You have probably forgotten how the covid vaccines were handled. Thais found it normal that a foreigner from a risk group doesn't get vaccinated. The idea that aliens are human and that generally the same rules apply for them as for Thais is completely alien to them.

And cash out of the (foreign) ATM is no red flag? Especially if again and again, throughout the year, every year. It was for my home country's bank computer: after cashing out of Thai ATMs for 20 years, the computer said no and didn't give me any more money. Of course, international transfers are even more suspicious. I quote a member of AN: "only criminals have need for a Thai bank account"

I used to live out there in the sticks. Now I live in Central Bangkok. (I didn't move)

It's correct to say 90 or whatever percent of Thais don't file a tax return. But it's not correct to assume that the same 90% don't pay taxes on their income. There is a withholding tax on salaries, and the bulk of the population gets a salary. (As for farmers, the income from selling rice is tax-free) BTW in my home country it's similar: the salaried pay most taxes. The self-employed pay very little. But they do file lots of paperwork, proving that, unfortunately, they have almost zero taxable income. It's just a bit simpler here.

I will apply for reentry permit at Suvarnabhumi. Flight leaves 0:30, Nov 2 In the reentry application, you have to fill in the date when you wrote it (Nov 1, about 23:00), on top of the form, and you have to fill in the date you leave Thailand (Nov 2). Is this how they want it? Or both dates Nov 2? Or they don't care?

I am very familiar with แม่นาคพระโขนง (she is even on Google maps). The Thais are too polite to say anything. But I know what they think.

Submarine Deal Won’t Be Scrapped At Expense Of Other Agreements: Suthin
Lorry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In the news today: submarine deal scrapped, they buy a frigate instead. A frigate doesn't need an engine, you can always equip it with sails. -
No. Guavaman has posted British rules of remittance-based taxation, a couple of pages up. Someone else mentioned that Japan also has remittance-based taxation, but I have no idea of their rules. The British rules make an interesting read. Most ideas to avoid taxes mentioned in this thread wouldn't be acceptable in Britain. Unfortunately, the Thai ruling class is very familiar with Britain (and Japan). Of course, many things described in the British rules are hard to prove, even in Britain. But tax evasion hoping that the facts will not come to light is very dangerous. What they cannot prove now, maybe they can prove in 7 years? Remember Al Capone.

Thai hostages safe in Gaza, release hinged on Israeli military ceasefire
Lorry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You are probably right. That makes me understand Thais' feeling: one may be able to understand the hate of Palestinians for Israel or Jews. But killing and abducting Thais... -
how about a tax avoiidance topic
Lorry replied to Rampant Rabbit's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
That's a bit rich. So, r/t tickets to and from home country should be bought in Thailand. If bought in home country, they might be taxable. The rest is more or less obvious (the one with the grandchildren... for how many generations will Her Majesty follow me?) Unfortunately, the Thai ruling class is quite familiar with the UK. -
Thai hostages safe in Gaza, release hinged on Israeli military ceasefire
Lorry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Average Thais realized early on that Hamas specifically targeted Thais. Victims reported on Tiktok, eg how Hamas would knock a door and greet in Thai "Sawatdee krap, Khon Thai!" When the Thais opened, Hamas shot everyone. "Muslims are strange. Why they kill everybody who is not of their religion?" BTW there is an opinion piece in today's Bangkok Post about this. -
A lot of things in Thai are dangerous to say if you don't know very well in what situation, with whom, in which intonation to say them. I mean physically dangerous. Furthermore, slang expressions from the mouth of a foreigner can sound very inappropriate in any language.

Your Thai must be good if you can be sure that Thais realize you are speaking in jest. They often don't realize it. The cultural background is different, and some things one just doesn't say in jest. If your Thai were so good you wouldn't have to ask this question in the first place.
