  1. " you'll be well-equipped with a variety of Thai expressions to choose from. " Oh, oh! Such a smart bard, but the only really useful advice he didn't give: don't ever say something like this. You will get into a lot of trouble. You are not in Kansas anymore! Better not to know all these expressions.
  2. Only if you have given your TIN to the bank. Most people don't do that.
  3. https://aseannow.com/topic/1262406-questions-about-taxation-tin/?do=findComment&comment=17412506
  4. Recommendations vary a bit from country to country. Over 60, over 65... Definitely not for people under 50.
  5. You are not the only one. I cannot sit upright in Thai taxis. Ceiling too low. Getting in is difficult, getting out is torture. I avoid them if possible. London cabs were much better, but there service has been reduced, need advance booking, preferably one day. Motorcycle is cramped, too, but I can at least sit upright.
  6. Mr Musks app is not what I would quote for anything... But that's not my point. I am surprised that the Guardian or the NYT (and others) talk of hundreds of dead. The NYT is not Arab-owned and doesn't have a reputation for antisemitism. Both talk about the possibility/likelyhood/whatever that a Gaza missile was the cause - but both don't dispute the death count. I have no idea what to think.
  7. Correct, I have done this once. It never occurred to me to make an online appointment as back up if I report online. That's really a good idea. I did once report by mail, when the online report got no answer. I wouldn't do it again, because I ended up with 2 90-day report slips (the online one was approved, in the end, and the mailed-in one got an answer weeks later). The dates were 2 weeks apart, and it was not clear when the next report would be due. I wasted a lot of time for the next report. This "90-days report" - really a 75-days report because you don't want to do it the last minute - has developed into a real PITA.
  8. That's why a gift from someone who doesn't live in Thailand is preferable. Of course, don't forget Guavaman's warning.
  9. No need for relatives if you can live on 800,000 a month (I know it's hard). The paragraph right after the one quoted by guava reads (28) Income derived from maintenances and support under moral purposes or gifts received in a ceremony or on occasions in accordance with custom and tradition from persons who are not ascendants, descendants or spouse, but only for the portion not exceeding ten million baht throughout the tax year. The subject had been discussed in this thread before. Some posters suspect that a gift (from a gifter who is Thai tax resident) might be "remitting income to Thailand". So don't gift 10m to your wife. But her mother in law, who lives abroad and is not a Thai tax resident, can gift her (or you) 10m.
  10. Oh, i can post! Thx, AN. I cannot post anymore, 90% I cannot quote another post and respond. 99%. Usually the field where i should write appears and accepts only downloads of attachments, i cannot write there. I can write this post because after 5 tries, what then happened was that the attachment field spontaneously combusted and evaporated, giving me space to write
  11. Their prices in economy are by far the cheapest, no advance booking necessary. They sell tickets for tomorrow for 17000 o/w Has anybody recently been on one of these flights? Are they full? (Or does the price indicate they can't get their planes filled? )
  12. In theory, you are right. But in my experience from 2 different countries where everything is done by the book, even in those countries it would be more like Jim says. How it will be in Thailand? I don't dare to guess.
  13. Sounds good. Do you actually know any retirees who were told so by the RD? I do know retirees who were refused a tax number for want of taxable income (even if they remitted millions of baht to Thailand). But I have never heard that the RD referred to a DTA.
  14. I suppose you told the RD already what they ought to do? There is no need for an announcement that people should follow the law. End of 2025 we will all learn, whether the RD thinks like you - I very much hope so - or not.
  15. Excellent idea. Thanks a lot. Got qeue number about 11am Finished about 19.00 (= 7pm)
  16. Good to know. She sounded like it was a computer mistake not for everybody
  17. It wasn't the last minute, and anyway: The first sentence of my post was probably too difficult to understand:
  18. Online didn't work, had to go to CW Had to wait for 410 people in the queue, mostly Chinese. About 8 hours. Finished about 7pm IO apologized that online didn't work, it was a mistake of their computer They said it's always crowded like this, especially on a Monday
  19. 90 days reporting 16 Oct: no TM30 in passport required
  20. Even that's not the wording of sec42 (23) and (24) of the RD code.
  21. Mutual funds are tax free (doesn't matter if money market funds or others)
  22. Applies to money remitted into Thailand after 1 Jan 2024
  23. The way this is usually done, customs just asks you if you carry any cash. You don't have to declare it without being asked, but you obviously have to answer truthfully. Then random checks, and if found lying, the money is confiscated. The bigger problem is, as I said, these are noticeable amounts. Maybe someone will ask where the money (for the land you buy or whatever) comes from? 1000 USD cash into Bangkok, no problem. 20,000, repeatedly, to somewhere upcountry?
