  1. 2 Questions: Let's say I test +ve on day 1 or day 5, and they want me to quarantine at a hospital and pay out of pocket and then bill my insurance cos that's the scenarios I'v read.

1- What happens If I say F you I'm not paying or I don't have money to pay ? how can they force me to pay first out of pocket and then bill my insurance ?

2- Can I refuse to go to hospital since I'm asymptomatic and insist to quarantine at the Hotel. ?

I'm speaking in regards to Phuket Test and Go ONLY, I read some people did that and they isolated at their own cost at a hotel rather than a hospital.

    Pending Final Approval

The MFA / Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently announced that the Certificate of Entry (COE) will be replaced with the "Thailand Pass" system starting November 1st, 2021.

The "Thailand Pass" online registration system will exist on https://thailandpass.go.th, and should be accessible by November 1st, 2021.

Recent News Articles around "Thailand Pass"

The new Thailand Pass system will be for everyone except for those who will be traveling as part of group arrivals (by sea), and Alternative Hospital Quarantine (AHQ) stays will. They will have to use the existing COE system until otherwise specified.

    Required Information for Thailand Pass
    • Passport Information
    • Vaccination Certificate
    • Covid-19 Health Insurance Coverage
    • SHA+/AQ Hotel Booking
    •

It appears that prepaid COVID-19 PCR tests may no longer be required (recently mentioned in the Phuket Sandbox reduced requirements).

At the moment it is very hard to draw any final conclusions on the ease of the process, and who exactly will be able to enter "quarantine free". The chart released by the MFA did not seem to cover this newly announced entry method.

Don't know why there would only be 10 listed.
Here are the west side beaches listed (except for Mai Khao, which I have yet to measure because of the checkpoint up there, getting back)

    List of Phuket’s beaches

    1. Amanpuri Beach 440 meters long
    2. Anantara Beach 330 meters long

    3. Ao Sane Beach 129 meters long
    4. Banana Beach 170 meters long

    26. Trisara Beach 266 meters long
    27. White Sand Beach 299 meters long

My favorite?   Probably either White Sand (because it's usually empty)  or Nai Harn (it's been nicknamed "porn star beach" by some since the girls have seemed to move there from Patong's ghost town.  (and the fashion trend this year seems to be "skin")

    For artistic style:  Nui Beach.

Only one of these made the OP's list so I have to assume they're the ones he goes to.

    Wrong assumption but nice try.

answering your question 10 beaches are listed because it's my topic and I'm only interested in those 10 beaches to compare between, thanks for the alphabetical list but it's unnecessary. much appreciated ????

You will normally get little better exchange rate by transferring money in foreign currency - some used to mention Kasikorn Bank (K-bank) as the bank with the best exchange rates, but the differences might be minor. Paypals exchange rates are by the way awful.

Most, if not all, Thai banks have online e-banking, and a smartphone app. Paying by phone-app instead of cash in for example hypermarkets and a number of chain stores become more and more used.

I'm using both Bangkok Bank and SCB, and my girlfriend is using SCB and Kasikorn; those are the three major banks, and all have e-banking. mobile apps, branches all over (mainly in malls), and many ATMs; however Bangkok Bank have less and SCB most in numbers.

It might be difficult to open a Thai bank account as tourists, the only way is to shop around - it might not even be a brand-rule, but can be down to the individual branch; so if one named bank refuse to open an account for a tourist, then another branch of the same bank might accept it...????

Hello my friend. I love when I see your comments, the details and all the useful info you add makes me trust your opinion and experience very easily ????

Not just Thais...I often do this to pay vendors who come to the house...I just scan the QR code they generate and done, and of course electric and water bills always this way.

Not that it’s my business but I got really curious what vendors you pay at home ? Is that a common thing in Thailand or what I understood the massage ladies etc. LOL sorry just curious.

Whichever bank you choose DO NOT transfer money in baht as you will get a very low exchange rate. Transfer as US denomination and let your Thai bank convert to baht.

I appreciate you, the conversion will take place in the US and it’s a very high rate. So from my main bank it’ll be sent to MoneyGram converted and the. Sent to hopefully my Thai bank as Bahts. Or else I’ll use your method of course

CIMB is not headquartered n Thailand.  I think they are Malaysian.  In Khon Kaen, we had our mortgage with them.  They had one branch and 2 ATMs.  Several years ago they closed their branch and one of the ATMs.  So from a utilization perspective, I am not sure it is a good choice.

Bangkok Bank is the easiest bank for setting up transfers from the US to Thailand.  But you should really look at Wise.com as the best approach for transferring money to Thailand, best exchange rate and a very, very competitive fee structure, probably one of the best.  Check it out.

Tha k you for that, never heard of them I’ll take a look, I compared 6 different services and MoneyGram gave me the highest conversion rate and lowest fees just slower than others, but I’ll definitely look into wise.

  8. Hi Expats,

    US passport holder

will stay in LOS minimum 5 months.

1- I need a bank that has good Bank app for iOS.

2- conveniently across Thailand branches or ATM’s either is fine.

3- No fees on ATM withdrawal or debit card transactions (In Baht of course)

I will transfer money from the US to this Thai Bank Account via MoneyGram or PayPal once every two weeks it’ll be transferred as Thai Baht, so I can use it right away whether cash by ATM withdrawal or by using the debit card to pay for stuff.

CIMB or Bangkok Bank is more superior and dominant ? Unless there’s a third better option that fits my needs. Thank you guys.

If you end up spending lot of time in Asia in future, be aware that USA passport holders can obtain a 12 month multi entry tourist visa for Vietnam. Think they the only country that has that available option.

Strangely same as Au and some other countries, what's not available is visa exempt entry.

Apparently Japan is #1 passport in the world.

I didn’t know that and honestly it’s very helpful since I heard great things about Vietnam. I’m aware of the Japanese passport ranking it makes you wonder. I think the US passport rank as the 4th or 5th powerful passport based on ease of entrance to other countries.

Im not understanding the big difference between visa exempt and visa on entry since It really affect me either way. I’m still debating between the 60 days tourist visa or the visa exempt entry. We’ll see.

Speaking of Vietnam I just read that Anthony bourdain fav country was Vietnam and he shot a total of 9 episodes about Vietnam different shows over the years, It makes me wanna see it.

You can obtain a 30 day extension on both a visa exempt entry or tourist visa entry.

Enter on visa exempt gives you 45day permission of stay. A tourist visa 60days.

Either way after you extend by 30days you can subsequently obtain 60day covid extensions. They almost certainly will be continued.

Personally I would enter visa exempt. That's up to you.

BTW the reason for obtaining the 'standard' 30 day extension before covid extensions is that immigration will make you do it that way (most likely).

Forget the notion that 30day extension is more easy with tourist visa vs visa exempt entry. You will get a 30 day extension with either. 100%.

Finally I suggest you obtain full vaccination prior to travel to Thailand.

DrJack. You are not just a doctor you are the man :))))). Your answer is more than perfect. I’m fully vaccinated with the J&J back in June. I’ll try the tourist visa just cos it gives me 15 more days and it’s only $80. If it’s too much hassle then I’ll just skip it. Isn’t it great to have such a a great passport like the US passport.

There is no 30 day on arrival. The correct name is a visa exempt entry.

Many people have entered visa exempt to get 45 day entr since they started allowing them again. Then they got the standard 30 day extension and applied for a 60 day covid 19 extension more than once.

Exactly. Can I still do that ? Or safer get the tourist visa for 60 days from the embassy here in the US. And by that my chances are better so I get the 30 days tourist visa extension and the. Hopefully if they still have the Covid extension in place then I can try and apply for it. So I’m not risking anything if I make sense at all. What are you guys thinking ?

  12. I read in few websites as well as here that in LOS I can get standard extension as well as Covid extension even If I don’t have tourist visa on my US Visa exempt Passport.

When I called the Thai Embassy to verify, I was told The immigration office in LOS can’t and won’t give me any extension stamps if I don’t have any tourist visa in my passport.

without sarcasm and negativity if you can help me or let me know which one is correct with any evidence or proof or links as a proof to your answer I would be very thankful and appreciative.

They would put a tracking bracelet on you

Okay, that's a good start to be aware of the other options, is there any info on google or here that discuss more how does this bracelet work or even confirms if no smart phone then a bracelet will be mandatory, Just curious ? I tried google and here and couldn't find anything confirming that.

Why not just use the Morchana tracking app they make people download for the Phuket Sandbox?  Makes no sense to go looking around for a green piece of paper to show you're vaxed.  Everyone has a smartphone by now.

Question if you know, What happens or how does it work if I arrive at the airport for the Phuket sandbox and I don’t have a smartphone. Just a regular old phone without camera or GPS or capability of downloading apps. What would be the other options ? Thank you.

There will be others like you.

Those who want to get vaccinated and get on with life but can’t.

Unfortunately, at the moment Thailand insists on vaccination to re-enter under the Sandbox scheme, otherwise your only option is to do the horrible 2 week Alternative State Quarantine and stay locked up in a hotel.

Any trip back to the UK will not be impacted and perhaps you can get the Valneva vaccine, assuming that does not bring on your anaphylaxis.

I read yesterday here on this website that the UK added Thailand to the red list meaning when he goes back to the UK he needs to quarantine at a hotel for two weeks also lol
