Yes they do it once a year - Canadian snowbirds. They don't overstay or go for multiple visa exempts/extensions. Just your typical retirees escaping Canadian winter. They are in Vietnam right now but will be back soon so I will ask more questions when they get back. I only had time for a very brief conversation with them as they were heading back to their hotel so may not have got the complete story. It sounded a bit weird to me but I thought I would check if there has been any recent policy changes. Thanks for your confirmation that there hasn't been.

Hi I was talking to some Canadian friends a few days ago. They visit Thailand every year for a couple of months or so, arriving on a visa exempt and then go to immigration and extend it by 30 days. They went to Hua Hin immigration and were told they can't do it anymore and would have to leave the country by the end of their 30 days. I think (I'm not 100% sure) they also tried at Chiang Wattana and were told the same thing. Does anyone know anything about this? Were they just asking for the wrong thing (unlikely as they have been doing this for a few years) or is this something new.

My lawyer is telling me that I can get a re-entry permit on a single entry non B visa. I am not sure if that is true. Can anyone shed any light on this? I am having difficulty believing anything she says right now

That's great info Jack. I am visa exempt for Vietnam and I've never been to Saigon before so a bonus. So I would have to fly to Saigon and submit an e-visa application in Saigon and pay for it online in Saigon.

I was bitten by a cat a few months ago. I had not been previously vaccinated against rabies. I was advised by a private hospital doctor I needed a series of 5 vaccination shots (administered in the shoulder as with most vaccines) and an HRIG shot administered around the site of the bite. HRIG is Human Rabies Immunoglobin vaccine made from human blood. There is also ERIG which is Equine Rabies Immunoglobin vaccine made from horses blood. HRIG is supposed to be better than ERIG but both will do the trick. The private hospital wanted to charge me 35,000 baht for the HRIG but the nurses very kindly whispered to me that it was available at any government hospital and that I had time. I declined the HRIG at the private hospital and went to a government hospital the next day where it cost me 1,800 THB for ERIG. It must have worked because I'm still here today! I think that even if you have been previously vaccinated it is recommended to have the HRIG/ERIG
