  1. Where you direct your own eyes is nobody else's business, or should simply looking from a distance now also be defined as harassment?
  2. How is that racist? Have you been spat on in a hotel lift? Have you been pushed and shoved out of the way at a hotel buffet or in a queue at a shop? Have you used the facilities after someone from mainland China? Have you witnessed people allowing their children to relieve themselves in the street? Have you rented a condo next to someone who insisted on shouting at the tops of their voices at all hours and spitting in the corridor? Have you ever seen someone pissing into a swimming pool while standing on the edge? To name a few of the infractions of normal behavior I have witnessed from mainland Chinese. Last time I checked people from Hong Kong or Taiwan are of the same 'race' as people from mainland China yet appear to be a lot more suited to international travel. There is nothing whatsoever racist in my comment. The Chinese government is busy colonialising large tracts of Africa, Chinese bosses are murdering African workers on a daily basis. China is trying to steal the whole of the South China Sea. China is committing mass genocide in Xinjiang province, China has <deleted> all over what was one of the best cities in the world, Hong Kong, China wants to ruin Taiwan, the real China the list goes on. If China was like Taiwan is today there would be no issue would there, people from Taiwan are really nice and civilized as a whole. Not racist in any way shape or form.
  3. About 8k GBP per acre including a very nice house, less than 200,000 THB per Rai; https://www.uklandandfarms.co.uk/rural-property-for-sale/scotland/highlands-and-islands/50722_rpe210101/ 1.6 million THB per Rai and no house, more than 80,000 GBP per acre; https://www.thailand-property.com/land-for-sale-in-chiang-dao-chiang-mai_7161715 I know this is a random example but just shows lunacy beyond bounds. Farmland in the UK is also not subject to taxes such as inheritance tax etc. Yes, I hate the UK and what it's become but I still see more value in the Scottish farm than that piece of land in Thailand on a per rai or acre basis.
  4. Using Scotland as an example, land distribution is very unequal but you can buy land cheaper than in Thailand so yes this can only be a good thing.
  5. Well no, unfortunate that people have a mind set that land is the be all and end all and hoard it at the detriment of others.
  6. Yes, this would be a lot better, land prices in Scotland are reasonable, as low as 3k GBP an acre in some places.
  7. Very difficult to consider a condo in Thailand with the allowance of Chinese buyers. Hong Kong and the real China (Taiwan) absolutely no problem but the Mainland Chinese are world destroyers and have absolutely no place here in my opinion. When I first arrived in Thailand in 2005 there were not many Chinese here, we were sold a lie!
  8. Agreed, but there is no incentive for people to sell unfortunately, the only good land deals you may find are when people need to sell at all costs, they don't want to sell but need to. Usually inflated prices are received, at least in my area, by people buying land that is strategically beneficial for themselves, ie you're more likely to pay way over the odds for the lot next door then the one down the road. This happens a lot here. I know it's not going to change and my views my be slightly obscure but land prices in Thailand really annoy me, can't help it.
  9. Hmm not sure I agree here, it's not so much as not being able to afford it, we have a 125 square plot for our main house, as a housing lot this is acceptable but not really ideal, I would prefer a lot big enough to not be disturbed by neighbors, yes I can't afford this, it would be tens of millions! Peasants don't buy land though, they inherit it usually, they are not buying it up, they sitting on it. How could anyone get in to farming in Thailand, when a lot of the size you'd need to make a decent living would costs millions of dollars?
  10. Another issue to land values I see is the rai itself. The rai is a small piece of land 1600sqm, an acre 4000sqm and a hectare 10000sqm. As people think they are getting more of something this can physiologically make people believe in theft values. What we need is a temporary land tax, 5% per year of the value people believe their land is worth paid for the next 5 years, this should get land out of the hands of people who have no business owning it, then remove the tax when it has done its job. Secondly give ALL land proper papers, full chanote. No more nonsense, Sor Por Kor, Sor Tor Gor, Sor Kung Nung, Nor Sor 3 etc. If all land had full papers this would also reduce the price of proper papered land.
  11. Yes inflation is an issue as well of course. But if someone owns half a rai of land and thats all they have in the world they are going to value that piece of land as everything, the be all and end all. Farm land should not be held by peasants in such small lots, or held by peasants at all. If an average lot size was 100 rai for example values would be more reasonable. When you do see bigger plots the prices don't make sense, I'm looking at a 7 rai piece of land now, full chanote but on a dirt road 1 hour out of Chiang Mai. 7 rai is only just under 3 acres. They are asking for 7 million, yes they won't get this but the audacity of this is disgusting. 10% of this would still be more expensive than it should be. Yes it's not going to change but it angers me beyond belief.
  12. Haha, part of the issue here. By being such a simp you are making it worse for proper people. If women don't want to be looked at, called 'darling' don't make yourself look so appealing maybe?? When I was last back in hell (the UK) was out with a friend, a quite attractive man I suppose and he received looks, stares and smiles from quite a few women. Should I take offense because I'm ugly? No, I don't care.
  13. Not necessarily, I believe if every man and his feral dog owns a bit of land, 1 rai here, 0.25 rai there this artificially inflates the 'value' of the land. Farm land here is more expensive that farm land in the UK. Average 12k an acre in the UK, a lot less up in Scotland (OK more close to London etc), with 2.5 rai to an acre and people asking 400,000 a rai for land in my area with no real paper something is wrong somewhere. If land was held in a lot larger plots by fewer people I honestly think this would be better for land values.
  14. Non in my area unfortunately.
  15. Our company owns a few properties that we use for our business, nothing at all wrong with it, fully legitimate and legal. To the OP, if the sole purpose of the company is to own the property then tread carefully, 99.9% you'll be fine but it isn't strictly allowed, if you intend to use the company, get a WP and turnover funds it would be better.
  16. You couldn't make this stuff up haha, heard something similar as well!
  17. When I got a visit visa for my wife 6 years ago to go to UK for a few weeks (which was against my will, vowed never to go back to that hell hole but she wanted to go) it was pretty easy as we live in Thailand have a business, staff, assets etc, not coming back would be to our detriment. I have had friends (3) who don't live in Thailand try for visit visas for wives and girlfriends and get turned down. The issues is not about employment here, it's they will do anything to decline if they can, looking at the application they can easily say they don't believe she will go back hence the refusal. If you can make it look like she will go back then you will be fine. They look at it and see she's not eligible for a longer stay visa and think you may be trying to circumvent this. I feel for you, they really are bastards in the UK, hate them. Wish you luck.
  18. Imagine buying a condo with a pool and then the pool being closed for any reason, I would be furious.
  19. I left the West at age 15, 20 odd years ago for a few reasons. PC culture being the main one (it's got far worse since I left!), if PC comes to Asia where else can we go! Freedom of speech is non existent back home, I reserve the right to offend and hate, in return have no problem with anyone else offending or hating me. That being said I don't take offense, at all, couldn't care less, the only thing that really angers me is other people taking offense at things that don't concern them. The woke brigade will be the detriment to the West, I hear people saying they wouldn't want their children to go to school in Thailand, well I wouldn't want to send children to school in the West, scary what they are doing now, 4 year old children being allowed to identify as the opposite sex with no input from parents just one example of lunacy beyond bounds. If you are 'normal' I would leave the West at all costs.
  20. I would go for concrete, we have a 6 block high (just raw blocks) around a 125sqw plot. Cost was 53,000 all in 4 years ago. Probably would have been an extra 20k to render and paint but wasn't too bothered.
  21. I've seen land for sale as well, not priced correctly though otherwise would have bought some. It really is something I can't get my head around land prices in Thailand. I know one plot of 1.1 rai the owner wants to sell for 6 million or rent for 2k a month out in the countryside, it is on a big road but still he's happy to make less than half a percent by renting (which no one is actually renting). Land should be 500k tops. I have always been someone dead against any form of tax on property, but I would like to see property tax be more of a thing in Thailand, if only just to reduce the prices of land and get land out of the hands of people who have no business owning land ie peasants.
  22. Yes I don't use Amazon. Apple a bit different as there is competition in terms of just as good Android devices. CP literally own everything, 7/11, Makro, Lotus, even small CP meat shops out here in the countryside. I would prefer not to buy things from a monopoly, that's very hard, even if you don't buy directly from a CP shop you are buying from a shop that buys from CP. So it's the principal really, I want to choose to shop somewhere not be forced to because there is no other choice.
  23. I stopped going in 7/11 ages ago and started to use the mom and pop shops around my area, all well and good I thought. After speaking to a few of these shops it has become clear that they usually buy all their produce from Makro. Hmmm as CP basically own Makro by not going in 7/11 I am not actually avoiding CP. There is literally nowhere else to go! To those that also would like to avoid CP, what do you do?
