I should clarify. I have seen similar cases (more than a few actually), where a foreigner with a successful business has been removed from the country, under threat of physical violence, criminal charges or even being killed if they return, and then had their assets stolen from them.

The most recent case I know of, was down to the most trusted Thai manager conspiring with local mafia to drag a wealthy foreign company owner through the courts, creating a situation in which he could not return without facing a completely uncertain scenario of arrest and criminal and civil court cases. The manager and co-conspirator then proceeded to strip the company of assets, including the owner's personal property, including a pool villa, condos and vehicles.

Bit of a dim bulb he was. Believe he still has his company though, but a few million dollars out of pocket.

A similar situation could be unfolding before our very eyes. 😉

I know a British guy in Phuket that had a whole Condo block that he built from scratch stolen off him by some dodgy Thai's including a lawyer.

He was 130 million baht out of pocket in the end. He tried the court route to no avail. Eventually he was forced to leave Phuket by some very influential locals. He ended up in Chiang Mai.

He stayed there a few years. Eventually his money ran out and he returned to the UK. He was a decent person, a sad story and cautionary tale.

You sure he admitted attempted murder? Or just admitted he tried to knock you off your bike?

Thailand has never been colonised and part of the reason is the Thais stick together. I dont think it is a bad thing and has resulted in this country that we love so much we have decided to live here.

You have to take the good with the bad, and the good outweighs the bad by a mile. if it didnt we wouldnt be here.

The reason Thailand was never colonised is because the British and French wanted a buffer zone in between what is now Myanmar and Laos. Thailand being the buffer zone.

    Whats next...

...  Swiss "Doctor Kicker" previously parked badly at a McDonalds where he also failed to eat his 6 chicken nuggets ?

My point here is... OK, his is obviously a nasty character, but digging up old stories ??.. how do we even know this is true ??

I've watched the video <here>. and the van (or ambulance) its hard to tell, is making no effort to pass the car in front (Audi with red plates), the ambulance has no siren, no flashing lights etc... and when the Audi moves to the middle lane, the cam car (ambulance ?) remains behind the Audi and continues to film it rather than continue on with their 'emergency-journey' (which clearly is not an emergency)...   the video also shows something sticking out of the drivers side window throughout...  which could be the someone holding up the middle finger...  which highlights that the driver is unhinged - but is this the same guy ?

So... While I firmly believe what the Swiss man did (kicking the woman) is despicable and should be dealt with legally, in line with exactly how a Thai would be treated for the same actions....  I do not believe that digging up non-stories is fair, as this is defamation...   The video doesn't show anyone blocking an ambulance, it just shows moving traffic.

Very sensible and thought out comment.

He built Area 51 and closed the car and bike hire to concentrate on running the go-go.

Cool. Thanks for letting me know. I will pop in and say hi.

  5. Cheap Charlies bike rentals on Soi Pot Hole had 1 bike nicked the first week he opened.

He had another nicked 6 months after that. He was never paid out on them.

He was buying brand new bikes.

It all went t1ts up in the end.

I knew another guy on Soi Diana, I think he was from Manchester.

He had a place called ''Escape car and bike rental''. It was opposite LK Metropole. Does anybody know what happened to him?

Its a very difficult business for a foreigner. This was over 20 years ago.

  6. 6 to 8 large bottles of Leo knocks me out most nights.

I keep a large bottle of water next to the bed which I consume on my nightly p1ss breaks.

    I don't eat after 5pm.

Bed at midnight and up at 9am.

I feel like cr@p for a few hours, usually by midday I am fine.

I only drink water (lots of it throughout the day) and 2 x coffees in the morning. Eat twice a day.

    6pm I'm back on it.

    Works for me!!

  7. The Black Cat Bar has been gone for well over 20 years.

It was around the corner from the old Johns place.

I was in there a few times in the mid ninety's.

    I remember the owner vaguely.

It was probably the most well know bar in CM at the time.

The Benz I bought broke down in heavy traffic - twice.

The second time, it was because a Benz dealership had diagnosed the cause of the breakdown incorrectly. Charged me 15,000 baht for a new alternator.

I could not get rid of the bloody thing quickly enough.

Was it a 10+ year old car?

    Maybe just bad luck?

I can only speak from experience, I've had no major issues in the 12 years of owning Mercs. Fingers crossed.

100,000km and I am looking to move them on.

I have to admit I never used any of those things anywhere.

In theory I know what they are doing, but in real life I don't really know what to expect. Will the water pressure be high? Will the water go to the correct position? How about if it malfunctions. To be in a public toilet and getting drained with water "out of the toilet" is a horrible thought...

But then again, I recently purchased a TOTO toilet for my new apartment, and I made sure there is a washlet seat available for that thing and I have a power outlet nearby. I think about the time when I might be old and want one. Let's see.

    Pro tip. Always test first.

You've probably got the convenient options right there.

For an alternative, you could look at Air Asia X --> connect on Air Asia from SG to KL --> Air Asia X has direct flights to Sydney and just this week restarted flights to Gold Coast.

Both flights about THB 30k round trip in "business".

I flew with them from Bangkok to Tokyo. 4 pax.

Their ''business'' option was very good value.

I forget exactly what I paid but from memory it was less than double the economy price.

The lie flat seats were ok. Food was the normal Air Asia rubbish. It was from Don Mueang.

No lounges, no frills but well worth the extra money in my opinion.

From experience, I can say buying a used Benz is not a sensible decision.

Simple reason - servicing costs and spare parts are 3 times that of most other vehicles.

A dealer that refuses to let you have the VIN details is a huge red flag. Walk away.

I've bought 3 used Mercs. Always low mileage, 3 to 4 years old.

I haven't found the servicing costs to be that expensive. Never needed major parts.

It depends on the model. Obviously the AMG range is going to cost $$$.

  12. My son looked at a Merc on my behalf recently in Bangkok. It was advertised on a well known Thai website.

It was very cheap with low mileage. Certainly the best deal for a Merc in that class on the site.

The guy insisted on meeting him in a Lotus carpark.

He never brought the blue book.

My son asked him if it would be OK to take the car to a Mercedes dealer to get it checked out. He seemed ok with that.

They parted company with the man promising to send my son a copy of the blue book. My son never heard from him again.

Sounded very dubious to me. A trusted dealer is always the best option.

Has anyone any info on "Thai Itoh tech college" please. Our daughter is 15m , so in her last term ant her present school, Sawng Boriboom. Looking at further Education and came across Thai Itoh "College" Thinking, maybe a good move into a career based "college" rather than further "Schooling" Many Thanks

I will be honest it is the first time I have heard of them.

I think it would be a good idea to pay them a visit to get a feel for the school.

    Good luck!

Just because your child is 'half farang' does not make them immune from the fact they might be thick therefore the private school prices are a waste of money, should that be the case.

Where does it say she is 'half farang'?

Couldn't you afford the international school fees?

  15. There is nothing in it. It all depends on what seat you get (or choose) and who is sat next to you, luck of the draw.

Is the plane full? Are there an empty seat next to you? Screaming kids? Idiots behind you punching the ''touch'' screen TV. You get the picture,

IMHO these are the only 2 airlines to fly from BKK to London. They are the only non-stop flights, now that BA has stopped that route.

I just want to get on, do the long stint and get it over and done with. I can't be bothered with the stopovers in the ME.

Who really cares about the food and lounges? It is all second rate crap anyway. Even the Gold lounge at Heathrow terminal 5 is nothing special. I've been in there a load of times.

If I go business the only good thing is I can lie down, usually somebody else is paying for that.

  16. MIS is an excellent school. Cambridge curriculum. Good value for an international school.

Its on the dark side, a little further North from where she is now. It moved there years ago from Naklua where it used to be called Montessori.
