  1. Does anyone perceive any security risk when building exterior and interior walls using the light aerated thermal concrete bricks (Q-Con, R-Con, etc.)? The bricks are very light weight and by design are full of air-holes so doesn't this make it relatively easy for someone (say a theif for instance) to punch a hole thought either an exterior wall of a house or maybe a interior condo or apartment wall?

I know there is a thin layer of finish plaster/cement on each side of the blocks but still seems a hammer and chisel would make short work of one of these walls wouldn't they?

why would a burglar knock through a wall instead of breaking a door or window to enter a house? i admit however that the pathetic 7.5cm inside walls in most condos are reason for concern.

  2. I have 26sm bedroom on ground floor with shaded roof above and only need 9k unit for full cooling day and night. As this Panasonic unit was installed to be a backup for 18k unit when it fails was quite surprised. Since install (hot season) have not turned the 18k on. Expect it might not get the supermarket cool that some like but for normal 25c comfort level I enjoy it is fully adequate and does not seem to operate more than the 18k unit. Has also saved 2,000 baht per month in electric charges.

a good example as far as efficiency of smaller units is concerned. the average 'layman' is however fed completely different and misleading information such as "big is better, a big unit doesn't have to work as hard, it will last longer as wear and tear is less and because the big unit runs a much shorter time is saves energy" and similar kind of rubbish. when you try that to explain that this is rubbish you get the answer "that's just common sense!"

by the way, i haven't met anybody in the aircon business [in Thailand] who was aware how high latent cooling capacity by dehumidification ranks which is achieved by smaller units running longer cycles and how dehumidification lowers the electricity bill (if one is not a fan of cross ventilation for hours a day).

  3. As for making cheese here, it will be a failure.

Tons of mozzarella is made in Thailand.

I know zilch about making the stuff, but if its only a question of temperature, then surely this can be overcome with a few air cons? If they can cool the massive shopping complexes to just above zero, 15 degrees must be a doddle.

Yes mozzarella is probably the best cheese to make in Thailand as it's made from buffalow milk and can be made in a couple of hours also doesn't need to mature. Once made it should be eaten quickly or kept cold and stored in brine otherwise it will start to mature which is not the charachter of mozzarella.

Mozarella is some sort of :o not a cheese.

  4. How sick this thread becomes. Really time to close it. The only thing what might be annoying is the arrogant style of the OP which doesnt change the fact that he was right with his predictions so far.

A global correction happened. Financial markets are down and interest rates below inflation. The average earners from low- and middle class now have less purchasing power than a year ago. Is it the end of the world? No.

i beg to differ. Bingo's post have quite some entertainment value :o

  5. i also don't understand why anybody is proud of his/her country.

I guess you have to be from somewhere worth being proud of to understand. Where are you from?

    :o Superb!

pride should be based on own achievements. being proud of something accomplished by others is adorning oneself with borrowed plumes, i.e. a sign of weakness. too difficult too understand? if yes, let's change and discuss subjects you are familiar with. will Manchester United make it or not? and if they make it will you be proud of the team even though you are not one of the players?

    :D

Thats your opinion Naam. I disagree completley however. Do you have daughters, sons... a wife? Would you feel pride at seeing your 9 year old kid scoring a hatrick for the school football team? Would you feel pride if your single parent daughter graduated from Uni as a mature student, after rasing three kids on her own? Or what if your wife was told she was terminaly ill, yet she managed to smile in the face of adversity and slog her way through the illness, only to come out of it all recovered?

Surley you would feel pride at this? It wasnt you that scored three goals in one game and it wasnt you that graduated from Uni.... so you wouldnt feel proud, right?

    touché! you got me Stan.

  6. I have just installed a couple of Daikin units in our living room and bedroom and am very happy with the performance. Nice and cool and, very important for me, quiet too.

my home has a whole bunch of Daikin units. advantage 6 fan speeds and extremely quiet on speed 1 and 2, comfortable a speed 3 and but very noisy at speed 5 and 6.

Daikin outside compressor/condenser unit very quiet. noise of Mitsubishi in- and outside units = :o and :D goes for the handling of the inside unit too.

  7. They don't want you to be happy....they want you to be miserable. Get it? Don't open your mouth, unless you can speak and understand Thai language. Why? Because you won't truly understand their intentions or Pattaya, unless you can speak the local language.

weaklings like you mind. grown men care a shÍt :o

  8. @Naam - re: "i checked that out several years ago." Both the 40 mil and the 'trust"?

yes, both Klikster. the trust is a hoax and the 40mm investment as per the rules of the Board of Investment is a nightmare. having said so, as far as the 40mm are concerned my lawyers in BKK followed the letters of the regulations and did some enquiries with the authorities to be involved (status as of autumn 2004).

perhaps there is a way to circumvent the strict regulations. but that means that you are sailing in uncharted waters bordering illegality or perhaps as "illegal" as the company route.

  9. They are by and large 3rd generation Teluga speaking Sihks whose families arrived here in the late 1800's from the Punjab. Many of the families who are now settled here and own all those tracts of land on Sukhumvit and elsewhere in the city (down by Asoke junction area) received it by royal decree from his Majesty Rama 5 (e.g. Majestic Mansions and the hotel next door to it - both buisnesses on land owned by Sihks who received from Rama V - there are many other examples in the city).

sorry Maizefarmer but this info is wrong. Sikhs from Punjab speak Punjabi. Sikhs in any indian state (even if settled there for generations) speak Punjabi besides the local language. in fact most Sikhs in any country on this planet speak Punjabi.

Telugu is a dravidian south indian language, not related at all to Hindi (Punjabi is related) and is spoken in Andra Pradesh and partly in Karnataka, Orissa and Tamil Nadu.

    :o

  10. I always pick up coins I find on the street. But I get the impression that the Thais will just walk past and not bother, especially for 1 Baht coins.

My GF said that I should only pick up coins if it's "heads" up, otherwise some bad luck could come my way. I pointed out that it is surely not right to leave a coin with "heads" down out of respect. " :o ", she said, hadn't considered that aspect.

I always pick 'em up. Someday might get rich. :D

me too. i'm saving for a mia noi.
