  1. I'm on a one year "Extension of Stay" based on business with Non-imm B and my wife has O as dependent

and baby is on my passport (I think this not relevant).

The questions is more a curiosity as lack of law rules but to save almost 4000 Thb (or save 6000 if they count also my baby)

to buy the 7 days extension and as well to be on the safe side with the law, it would be possible to present the letter of job/visa

cancellation to the immigration 1 week before your job will be officially terminated and leave the country the day after you present the cancellation letter to the immigration ?

Example : Monday go to immigration to cancel and Tue or Wed leave the country but job officially terminate on Friday.

As my boss will not mind to give me a week or so of holiday in my own country....let's say.... :whistling:

I'm aware the VISA will be automatically cancel as soon as you step out of the country (non having the Re-Entry permit), but do not want occur in problems as Mario2008 mentioned few times.

  2. Is it at all possible to buy legaly in Thailand. The company route seems to be illegal -using a nominee set up. Buying in the wifes name is illegal if the money comes from the ferang husband. So what way can a ferang buy without having the threat of future problems?

Firstly the Company route is not illegal provided the Thai shareholders are not nominees.

Secondly the Thai wife of a foreigner may own land but he must sign away his rights to the funds he gave to her for that purpose.

Thirdly, a foreigner may own a Condomnium.

Fourthly, a house (as opposed to the land it sits on) can be owned in the name of a foreigner and registered as such. The land can either be leased or held under a legal company structure - ie no nominees.

Maybe so but in reality most foriegners who have bought using a company have done so using nominee structure - as pushed by their lawyers. And as for buying in wifes name - who in their right mind would buy having to sign away rights to the funds.

I have never met anyone yet who hasn't regreted buying a house in Thailand.

You need to get out more.

The vast majority of my friends either built their own houses or bought one and I cannot think of one myself included who has regretted this. It seems to me alot of the posts on this subject are made by people who have never actually bought in Thailand.

    100 % agree carmine and southwest19,

same story as always guys, old like the world,

you drive a nice car = you are a criminal or drug dealer :D

you have a nice lady = you must be rich otherwise why a nice lady should stay with you, :)

and as soon as you touch the property sector, again the Cheap Charlie around have their chance to speak up !

I'm not rich, but I do not blame who could afford to buy whatever toys they want, good for them !

    To OP

Be smart and buy now, use an agent to make the research work for you, pay the job the agent does, use a serious lawyer pay him

    enjoy your property !!

Every serious member of this forum could tell you which agency or lawyer you can use, just send a PM !

Verify the info given it does not cost you a penny, but worth millions.....

  3. Unfo the dead Foreign man was another Italian, age around 37 so not a kid, the worst thing is to call home and advise the parents.

Even worst to see... the driver and his mate laughing at the Police station, because the life of a falang is not so important and

they will never get charge for what they did...

I can not be specific about the official Police report for obviously reasons, but I would appreciate in case somebody have been witness

to send me a PM with his/her details because in case of needs it would be helpful to punish the Pick up Driver.

    Condolences to the victim R.I.P.

  4. I'm sort of a Samui veteran, of sorts - been going there since 2000, have a Thai wife, etc..........

Thinking of buying a place in Samui..... this is to be a holiday home really, so I don't particularly want to be miles away from everything..... I wouldn't mind a location, something like blessing village, or in bang rak, or similar....

Where should I start looking? I don't particularly want the glitzy island tour in the big jeep, and the million baht commission of an expat real estate agent..... same time, I don't want to buy and plot from some dodgy local and build my own.......

    advice, pointers, etc. all appreciated.

    many thanks.......

You'll be lucky to get any genuine advice from the Samui expat crowd. They're mostly dodging bullets of their own. My advice to you is do your own research, you'll be able to rely on it. Speaking on personal experience... The majority of "advice" I've received from the long termers here has been either in their own interests to make a quick buck or to scare off competition. Samui is shark central & as long as you remember that you may do well.

    Ooops.

I believe that general statements are not real advises and do not help the OP, you can find genuine seller and genuine agencies, it depends from many factors,

    its really up to you.

Personally I listen the opinions of everybody and at the hand I decide by my self, or better with the info's I got

I would go to specialist which could be the lawyer or the real estate agent and make some questions, if they are professional and genuine will

be easy to find out immediately. An agency take between 3 and 5% commission, which is the same then other countries so I do not see

such "dodgy" behavior if they are professional and carry correctly the job.

I would never ever buy by myself directly without above advises, as too many thinking to be "the Man" and deal by them self, those are

the ones who risk more and generally the same who complains after.....

  5. So you are one of the ignorant people who take young children on flights.

Your baby crying and keeping everyone awake.

You should be put in the hold.

Children should be banned from planes until the age of 12.

I wonder who is the ignorant ?

YOU should be banned from ThaiVisa Forum !

I'm living in Thailand, so under your opinion I should wait 12 years to bring my baby to meet her family back in Europe ?

Or wait 12 years before I can move from Thailand for a trip ?

You know, I get annoyed as well when traveling on board of a plane where there is a baby.

That's why I fly biz class, now with a complete family is getting a bit too expensive for all of us,

but assuming you are alone, because no one could stay with somebody who think like you, simply buy a biz class ticket

when you fly, but probably you are also living in a hole somewhere in the middle of LOL and get upset because you are a

    poor person in every meaning.

By the way thanks for your constructive post.

  6. Somehow the Agent tried to help, usually I book directly with TG on internet but this time we saved more then 25.000 Thb

with agent special offer, so we take it.

My baby weight 6 Kg so I do not think possible she going to be more then 10 kg when we fly middle of Sept,

and she will be 6 month and 20 days old.

So far, thanks to Singa-traz for the helpful reply.

  7. Hi all,

it will be the first time we travel back to Eu with our 6 months and 20 days baby, so a complete new experience for us,

I book and paid everything as request from Thai Airways, our 2 tickets and our Infant Ticket,

during the booking process I request them several times to pay attentions to the seats, because we travel

with an infant and we would need front seats where we could hang the "basinet" as I think they call it.

    NO WAY !

Many messages back and forward, thats the first one :

Regarding to your requested for the Basinet for your baby, as I called to checked with them regarding to this requested. The Airline Staff said that normally, basinet is available for 6 months baby only. They're referred to Standard policy regarding to security purpose for Baby. Really sorry for this matter, I tried to requested with the Airline but they are not accepted and allowed me to requested a baby cot .

    After :

As I tried to contact both of Airline reservation and Sales for this issue all of them said that they can't provide a bassinet for your baby due to IATA policy as I have informed to you since the earlier. The Airline suggested me informed you that you may need purchased a seat for your baby ,then put a baby cot on the seat. For this matter you may need to bring a cot by yourself. I try my best to negotiated and requested them many times, finally, they did not accept for my requested. Really sorry for your all inconvenience caused.

So my questions is : what we should expect, what's our right ? what your experiences ?

    Thanks

  8. With all what is happening in Phuket why go there at all. Pattaya is starting to lok like paradise comperid to Phuket.

    SAMUI lovely SAMUI !!

    Family welcome,

Yes not such good infrastructures as Pattaya and Phuket but tropical charming atmosphere can not be find anymore over there,

    still, and ever....

  9. anyone know if they will give free 60 day tourist visas outside the country again? I liked that :)

Ah Ah Ah.... what they should expect after all the mess they did ?

Sure to boost the tourism sector in their typical way to act, they will

make more difficult the Visas, for both tourists and foreign residents (which are the ones who generally can improve services, marketing, customer care etc etc)

make more difficult and complicate to acquire a properties here, rather then finally open their mind and finally allow

foreign to acquire till 1 Rai to avoid the typical speculator but to facilitate the ones coming over to spend the deserved

pension time or just to whom wish to invest some money here,

increase the domestic airfare rates which are really too high saying "amazing Thailand"

keep the taxis in island like Samui rip off the tourist as first welcome "this is Thailand" and

last but not least somehow they will burn off the next incoming peak season with some typical clever political moves...

Good luck Thailand, I still love you !

  10. Is anyone aware of any active squash courts on the island. I am told you have to be a guest to use the one at Santaburi and Amari Palm Reef have closed theirs. Many thanks.

The Place Resort in Lipa Noi (After Nikki's Beach Club) has one full size Squash court, but still not operative yet.

Need to be patience till end of the year I believe.

  11. i just visited your lovely island but i must say i was taken back by the incessant annoyingness of tailors on the island. walking around the shops each day i was bombarded by approx 50 tailers each time we went outside the hotel for a few hours. in fact so much so that it put a dampener on our holiday to the point we dont think we would return. surely these people can see that hounding tourists is not the way to get business.

    HELLO OP !

Did you ever have a look a map of the island ?

Do you realize that our beautiful island is not only Chaweng ? Which buy the way is the most horrible

place where to spend your holiday in Samui ?

I know people coming here since few years and they only know from Bophut to Chaweng,

the most adventurous reach the far away Lamai !! Ok Ok this is the kind of Green Mango holidays makers....

So please, if for you Chaweng is Samui, you absolutely right, better you do not come back !

Sorry to the others, but I can not keep quiet when I see such limited people....

  12. it looks like the unquie development, and yes its 375 $ a day!

Have they started to build the himmapan?

    :):D:D

sorry, the development name is unquie by CD and P

Looks like... is the one with cool seaview and Airplane Runway view, never mind, I believe everybody coming for holidays in a tropical

island will like to stay close inside the property to avoid the plans on their head every 30 minutes.... for only 375 Us a day....

  13. Interesting comments from Mark Wolfe, I tents to agree to most of them... but

I personally disagree about Lipa Noi beach, is and will remain one of the best white sandy beach on the island, unspoiled,

not vendors, real charming tropical atmosphere, something a tourist see on photos with palms and blue Crystal water,

BUT there are seasons (like now) where the beach is not there and the sea not nice, the same in Chaweng during monsoons season,

no sand, no beach, but still many annoying vendors and the same bad small all around you...

I believe Lipa Noi will become pretty soon one of the best place on the island for a more family oriented holidays and upper class people,

but it is only my opinion.

Le Meridian (Taling Nam Resort), Dhevatara, The Place Villas & Resort, Ban Sabai, Nikki's are the most important

in a range of 3 Km, so may be I'm wrong but we will see.

    Cheers

  14. A Friend that was there told me that there was an increddible amount of Russian Females there.. :o

well it is owned by russians

I heard one of the managers was Russian. Anywya, they should have put it in the invite. :D

Its a multilocation company, Nikki's B.C. are around the world not only in Samui....

    and yes owner is Russian.

  15. Anybody at the Opening of the Nikki Beach Club near Racha Ferry? wanted to go also, but it's such a long way.

...such a long way ??... we are talking about Samui ? if you walk probably you right...

Very nice party under invitations, pretty organize too with exhibitions like Thai boxing show, mime man, dancers, tumbler.

Cool music and many many people all in strictly white clothes.

Amazing LADIES from Russia and as well very good looking Thai ladies.

    The down side : DRINKS

It was basically impossible get a drink from the 2 bars, not organize / not trained staff / not enough staff behind the bar !

managers passing by and looking at the long bar cue of people complaining about the impossibility to get a drink, do not give a s.....t,

3 kind of free drinks that night but not well done (because free), so if you want a different drink you were stack in the cue for a min

    of 45 minutes.

In such important night you MUST HAVE the managers working inside the bar !!

Many clients say that they will never never go back because of it.

But aside this it was a funny party, a well done club, no important guest as rumors.

I would probably go there again for a lazy sunday afternoon because Lipa Noi is for me the best beach of the island.

(More or less the same problems in Beach Republic but it was the food, that after the opening the second time I have

been there was really disappointing and expensive.)

  16. Since it has been reported by the rescuers that he was obviously drunk, why was he not tested for alcohol and charged accordingly with the manslaughter of his wife?

    Simon

Do you think it would make any difference ? Be charge to manslaughter his wife does not help anybody in any case, so ?

As I wrote before he will spend all his life thinking about this tragedy, in his house, in jail, madhouse, do you think he cares ?

When tragedy like this occur very often a suicide could happen....

If it was me, I would prefer someone cut my head off rather then survive and think about how I killed my wife.

    Please a bit of respect,

    Thank you

  17. Herber and Susanne were a very nice couple,

we spent togethor dinners and time, for pleasure and for biz., very enjable people.

The Susanne's smile was always there and she was always happy,

Herbert was a very good driver and compare with the cars he has in

in his home town the Fortuner was just a little toy, I do not know what

exactly happened that "night", when another of their friend call me in the

morning to tell me what's happened I was simply shocked.

I'm still thinking that he may loose the control of the car for other reasons, all of us know that driving in Samui

is dangerous, it can be any animals crossing the road at any time, a mopped with no lights, some obstacles on the road

he may tried to avoid and loose the control, or anything else, or a combination of more things,

but I do not care what the reason I only know it is a tragedy.

He will spend the rest of his lives thinking about, it could happen to every one of us.

    Be honest....

To him all my love and my respect,

To Susanne we will miss you a lot, RIP.

  18. Just curious if any of the accusations being made on this thread (ie no license, teachers being fired from other schools etc) are based on known facts or just hearsay? Because if its just something you heard from your wife's cousin's husband then please don't state it as fact.

Most likely these people are supporters of Bluewater School- there is a bitter rivalry between the schools for the dwindling number of potential students on Samui and there is a lot of mud-slinging from both sides.

The bottom line is that if you live on Samui and want your child to have a quality education, you had better do your best to come up with the money to send him/her to a real school in Bangkok.

Yes right ! So tell me why many Farang childrens come to Samui from Bangkok ?

    Do you know that ?

  19. As an afficionado of Nikki Beach, I have recently received a message from them; that now, they are open in Samui (Lipa Noi).

I am planning to visit it next weekend, on my way back from K.L.; and I was just wondering if any of you, Samui residents, went already to that place. Any good?

    Not open yet

  20. Hello

my wife have a 3 rai in samui lipa noi and i would like to build a 3 bedroom house good quality on 150 m2

can you let me know how much it will cost

also want to build 5 small room on the side for rent 25m2 per room with small terrace how much this will cost too

can you recommend a builder and a designer who will not rip me off too much...........

i am on small and tight budget maximum 1,5 to 2 million baht for house and 250,000 baht for the 5 bedroom to rent

    need you advise and help

    thank you

    Eric

1st post, so try to be nice....

the budget given can not offer you good quality for the type of house you want. Simple like that.

for the house, you need to double the budget, (average cost is around 20.000 Thb per SQM) it depends a lot from the finishing.

Remember you are in a tropical weather and if the quality of the materials are not good,

(better you avoid wood if you can not afford the good teak) you will spend

the double after.... if you pay peanuts you get monkeys !

About the 5 bedrooms for guests, if you do not wants a dormitory, better you build bungalows because of the good size of

your land they could enjoy more privacy, they are also cheap to replace or fix later....

Close to your area there is a wooden house factory (after the immigration - before Nathon hospital)

may be interesting pay a visit.....

    Regards and good luck !

  21. I have my house for sale. Been 'available' for a month or so now.

New Build. 86 m2 @ 3.5m THB. Close to RPM in Phuket.

I emailed 10 'big' agents but only 2 kindly replied. The other really professional agents just ignored it.

Maybe just their ignorance at the lower commission fee OR it could be that everything has slowed right down...

    Anyway, still looking to sell

    Sean

    >edit - spelling

The work involved to sell a cheap or expensive property is pretty the same for the agents,

assuming the commission is the typical 5%, the income for the agency would be about 175.000 Thb,

in general this comm. must be share between the office and the sales man (if not a middle man is involved as often happen)

making your property not so attractive to sell.

Even if the present market conditions are not good not many people are looking for such cheap houses, in addition

there are oversupply of properties, means the agents (usually) select and collect in their portfoglio what they believe they can sell.

    Only my 2 cents
