Thailand needs to calm down it's rush to EV !
KhunLA replied to TorquayFan's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
The car itself will give you that info, and an easy calculation. After 1 yr, almost, our ZS battery has degraded about 0.5%, after shy of 20k kms. If that hold, over the 8 yr warranty, then all of 4% loss. If we continue to drive 20k kms a year, and that's highly doubtful. So the most negative degradation we can expect. Not bad at all considering the longevity of the battery bank, and should provide decades or driving. If the rest of the car lasts as long ????, or gets added to the solar system. Either works for us/wife. Many consider 2500 cycles to be a very conservative number: -

Thailand needs to calm down it's rush to EV !

So true, though not a big fan of that thinking. Though SAIC & MG been putting out autos long enough, EVs, not till 2019, w/ZS, being 1st production EV. Gave that a pass, though not even considering, TBH, as not paying 1.2M for any 4 wheels. Just not car kind of guy. 2022 version came with a couple nice upgrades. Now having solar & govt incentives, so a no brainer at that time. 240k baht is damn good motivating incentive. Took a small hit selling the only 2 yr old ICE version, as I usually keep things for 125-150k kms. TBH, 949k is still a silly price for 4 wheels, in my car world, but ROI (hopefully) & operating cost, along with performance was well worth it. Seriously couldn't see myself going back to an ICEV. -
That's me ... ????

Guess most of us are already retired or soon to be. Oh well ... you youngins keep at it for a few more decades, paying for our retirement, and maybe, just maybe, the govt won't move the goal post on you, again, and there might even be something left in the till for y'all ... maybe ???? Suggestion, from one of the ol' guys ... don't plan on it, go self employed, and retire early. Trust me, it's a lot more fun ????

SAIC has been making autos for decades. MGs since 2011, I think. EVs since 2017-2019/mass production, I think. That's good enough for me, especially when nobody else is offering much else, of what I want. Has worked out good for me ... YMMV From Wiki ... SAIC Motors "It is currently a Fortune Global 100 company, ranked 60 on the list.[when?] Including SGMW, it is also the third largest plug-in electric vehicle (BEV and PHEV) company and second largest BEV company in the world, with 10.5% and 13% global market share respectively in 2021, selling under brand names such as Wuling, Baojun, Maxus, MG, Roewe and Rising." -
And that has what to do with anything?

Not sure about that, and same world wide, apply yourself, and you can accomplish anything. My Thai family & daughter are all doing quite well, but are not lay-abouts. Nuff said. Life is about choices. My daughter of course got assistance from me, but my wife's family, are doing quite well, without my help. Not from Hi-So background. 8 siblings and parents died when she was 4 or 5 yrs old, too young to even remember. So they struggled for many years.

Mg ZS reliability: your experience please

For other thinking about, owned the 2020 ICE version of ZS, loved it, no issues. Liked it so much, bought the EV version, without even test driving. Had the 2020 ICE version for 2 yrs / 40k kms, and those kms on the highways during covid exploring TH. Again, loved it, obviously, since buying another. Coming up on 1 yr of the EV version ownership (30 Oct), and shy of 20k kms, w/7-8k ish, I think, being highway kms, and still loving it ???? -

Don't think they make them, in the sense of 'changing' gears. My scooter has a 1-2-3 switch, for more speed, though takes no time to push or notice any change in motion. Think it just allows more juice to the motors. Don't think any cars in the 549k baht range and up are that low tech to have. Celerio is targeted to the low budget buyer, neither looking for performance or comfort. Great per kms/L, and fine for those wanting. Me ... No thanks, maybe when I was 20 yrs old and budget challenged. Though even my 2nd hand cars back then were much better. I try to move forward, not backwards in life, in all things. I'd put a side cart on my scooter before owning a Celerio ???? or Yaris & Mazda 2 for that matter, and simply hire/rent something when going O&A ???? -

I'm all ears, but your so called problems, don't exist here in TH: until they sort the fire problem ... less than ICEV, and none w/LPFs the range problem ... 3-4 hrs on TH's roads is enough for me the price problem ... cost same as ICEV of like quality in TH You got anything else ? -

Going to have to ask a Neta V owner. I see a lot, and they do look nice, and owners quite happy with them. The ones I've talked with. Though I'm not a fan of new release cars, and why buying the ZS wasn't much of a risk, as more than a few years to work out the bugs. No diverting, the ZS compared, costing <100k more, that was the ICE version (not discounted, but on nice sale) I owned before the ZS EV. Owning both, so again, can speak from personal experience. Something most here seem to avoid. -

It's called ... 'I wouldn't own a MT' and a better comparison AT & AT versions. If making the comparison, then get at least close to the same. Neta V is AT only, hence the comparison, though reality, the Celerio is outclassed on the performance level. And surely a fine, cheap car for knocking around town. Especially if budget conscious, though long haul, will eventually cost much more, than that extra 143k to buy in. -
Yes ... ESSs topped back up (51% @ sunrise), and EV still charging ????

I owned the Mazda 2, wouldn't buy again. Nor the Yaris, owning the Vios already (before the Mazda), and basically the same car. Why I chose those 2, as owning and can speak from personal experience. Good knock around town cars, but that's it. Noisy as all hell over the road. MG ZS (ICE) was a major step up from both of them, for <100k more. And the EV version, even better for performance, longevity and future operating cost savings. -

Got an 8 year warranty for the battery, and I haven't own a car here yet for 8 years, 7 max so far. Battery estimated (negative at that) to last 500k-900k kms, so not worried about being obsolete, since we put 20k kms on it a year, maybe. If rest of the car doesn't last that long, simply add the battery bank to our solar system. Not seeing any negatives. -

Same with the MG ZS, owning both. ICE version, a bit top heavy & all weight up front. EV ... Battery in center, and it performs much better when playing. -
Thailand needs to calm down it's rush to EV !
KhunLA replied to TorquayFan's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
@Lacessit you already know, but more so for others. As B states, a few have solar to charge our EVs. Myself, solar bought for house only, as not immediate thoughts of an EV, since purchasing a new ICEV while house was being built. We charge from excess solar, so yes ... 'free'. The size of our solar system is required for the house, so it cost no more to charge the car. That money needed to be spent, no matter owning an EV or not. Crap days, (yesterday) solar provides enough for the house, barely. Good days, (today) solar provides enough for our house, possible 2 more low electric use houses, or charging 2-4 EVs for local driving (5kWh a day), so yes, plenty of extra, 15-20kWh easily on a clear sunny day. Add the EV to the ROI time of the solar system, and if doing 20k kms a year, as we almost did, may do this year, and it almost cuts the ROI for SS in half. Win win all around. Y'all really need to get solar, whether you have an EV or not. Especially if home during daytime and abuse the AC like we do. We've produce & consumed shy of 28/20kWh already, and it's only 1315hrs. Almost 10kWh of that, went to ESSs, as we woke up to 51% this morning left in ESSs. That's usually 70%, but I left the EV plugged in longer than I should yesterday, not realizing the sun disappeared. Going into overnight @ 76% instead of 100% ... oops. -

Instead of comparing to cars, none of us would want to own, let's compare something a little closer to the Neta V: curb weight of 1,151kg Yaris ... 1090kg Mazda 2 ... 1070kg Both (AT) costing more than Neta V. Not to mention, onward savings from; petrol, oil changes & tune ups. -

Celerio @ 416k for AT Maximum power (PS/ rpm) 68/ 6,000 Maximum torque 90 Nm/ 3,500rpm Length (mm) 3,600 Width (mm) 1,600 Height(mm) 1,540 254 litres of luggage Neta V: 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW) 150 Nm of torque Length: 4070 mm. Width: 1690 mm. Height:1540 mm rear luggage space of 335 liters I'd definitely spring for the 143k more, and never have to buy petrol again, or oil changes/tune ups. ROI rather quickly. Along with, actually enjoy driving it. -

You really think comparing a Micra or March to and OGC isn't a silly comparison? Then extremely ignorant would be a better reason, for such a silly comparison. March was such a great car, Nissan discontinued it last year. March engine specs: Ora Good Cat: 143 PS (141 hp or 105 kW) 210 Nm of torque N Neta V: 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW) 150 Nm of torque
