  1. Maybe the new PM read ThaiPaully's advice here on ThaiVisa. Taksin comes home, serves time in jail, and emerges as a humble, virtuous Thai saviour to lead Thailand into the 22nd centuiry...after he has served all his consecutive terms, I might add. In the footsteps of Czechoslavakia's Havel, South Africa's Mandela, India's Mohandas Gandhi, and M. L. King, Jr.

Second time in as many days you've made the Gandhi Thaksin comparison. Are you feeling ok PeaceBlondie?

I was beginning to think the same thing myself.

Thaksin is in the company of Suharto,Marcos, Berlusconi & Chen Shui-Bian not the above mentioned statesmen. Please. :o

You forgot Idi Amin, Milosevic, Pol Pot, Mugabi and a number of others. :D

Eh, i'm no great fan of Thaksin but putting him in the same light as those last 4 is taking things a little to far don't you think? A little bit inhumane, i agree, but not a genocidal maniac like you are trying to portray him to be. In the words of Renton "Calm doon Franco"

  2. I was wondering if anyone had tried to teach their students phonics as part of their curriculum. If so any feedback, good or bad would be appreciated. I know it helped me when learning the correct Thai sounds, but on a larger classroom scale does it work or not. Thai students seem to have great difficulty getting the right sounds of words and i'm trying to think of ways in which to improve this. Obviously this would be for younger learners in the upper Prathom to lower Mathayom as for senior Mathayom i'm afraid it's already to late and lower Prathom a bit too early.

    Thanks in advance

  3. Here's a question, i've recently been asked a lot. How much money do you make? So without being impolite how do you say you'd rather not say. In Thailand this is not a question that bothers any one, but i'd rather not broadcast my wage around the neighbourhood.

  4. I used to lean slightly towards the PAD after their helping in the removal of Thaksin. But their ideas are outdated and their actions are stupid. Now my girlfriend, who is a tour guide and works on comission, has no customers and it's me who is having to fork out because of this. Go home PAD, you've caused enough long term damage to your own supposedly beloved country.

  5. Sounds highly unlikely, but if it happened then whatever happens to the foreigner, som nam nua....

I would have said the same until i saw it. I actually thought he was trying to scare them until he actually hit them. The director of the school knows about it, mai pen rai. This is smalltownsville, but even so i warned him and will warn him again. It only takes one well connected parent to find out and he'll be out the country

  6. Here's what i just saw,

Big fight in the classroom next door. Farang teacher i work with here who has been at the school a while, goes through splits it up. Then, brings the culprits through to his classroom and canes them in front of his students. About 8 students 3 times each. Fair enough i think, up to him but i would be worried about what the parents were saying about that. I think it's definetly not in any contract that you can do that and may be bordering on illegal....right or wrong? I did say to him be careful but it's his life. Any thoughts?

  7. Well i'm going for my Non Imm B for teaching next week and i was looking at the documents required on this website but it doesn't give you the specifics for teaching. Do you need copies of your qualifications etc? Do you need a medical certificate? Should they be signed by me? Is there a link anywhere to this information, cos i can't find it and the noisy kids playing counter strike next to me are putting me off. :o

    Any help is appreciated..

    Cheers

  8. Bangkok was awarded Clean and Green Land at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment in Hanoi, Vietnam from October 6 to 10, according to Thailand’s Permanent Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Saksit Tridech.

He said Bangkok was presented with this award because the city has sufficient resources to manage its environment, especially the green areas. He said the Thai capital has continually carried out environmental projects with clear results.

Mr Saksit said one of the main topics discussed at the meeting included the promotion of cooperation between ASEAN members to address environmental issues.

According to the permanent secretary, delegates praised different countries for their efforts to deal with transboundary haze pollution, and a fund for lowering haze pollution was also proposed at the meeting.

Vietnam's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment hosted the first East Asia Summit (EAS) Environment Ministers Meeting, the 11th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment, the 7th ASEAN+3 Environment Ministerial Meeting, and the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transboundary Haze Pollution between October 6 and 10.

  9. Put on an advert to sell my bike but when i checked the post the photo didn't come up which doesn't help when trying to sell something i think. Anyway i deleted the add and now i can't put a new one on it just says this ad has already been posted.

    Any suggestions

    :o

  10. Hi,

Here's my tuppence worth. went for a tourist visa in Vientiane 3 months ago, leaving Chiang Mai by bus in the evening. Arrived at the Thai consulate at about 10.30 and was happy to see about 8 people in line in front of me and i got checked through within about 10 minutes. This time, last week, i arrived about 10.45 to see the gates shutting on about 20 people and a further 60 odd still in line. It was busy the same the next day when i went, and the following day on pick up. There was a holiday last week and that may have added to the congestion but all in all i would say Laos has been picked up on now as the easy place to go and therefore is feeling the pressure. I would say if you want a visa go early, it's up to you when because either way if you go before it opens you have to wait until it opens, and if you go when it opens you have to wait for the queue in front of you.

    Good luck

  11. sorry about that last one... couldn't resist.

Can you translate what it says ? :o

    ดั่งแสงสุริยันต์ เจ้าทำให้ข้ากรอบ

Like sunshine, you make me crispy.

    แสงสุริยันต์ = sunshine

    สุริยันต์ = the sun

    กรอบ = crispy

Sorry what does the ข้า mean here

  12. The agency i am going to work for are saying they are trying to get me to (maybe) go to Bangkok to get my visa changed from a Tourist Visa made in Laos, to a Non Imm B. I was under the impression that you had to exit the country. But i have also seen a company advertising that if you have a tourist visa from your own country they can change it to a Non Imm B in Bangkok.

Anyone have any experience of this?

  13. I want a good recommendation for a Thai-English English-Thai dictionary, desk size. I can read Thai but want someone with dictionary experience to recommend. Thanks

My favorite is the Domnern Sathienpong Thai-English Dictionary, Third Edition. This volume is available both in hardcover and in paper. The hardcover version contains a CD which is downloadable to your hard disk. You can search this electronic dictionary in both English and Thai. In addition the CD has voice pronunciation for every entry. Let me know if you have any questions regarding this dictionary.

For more dictionary references and reviews, see http://www.thai-language.com/store. Good luck.

Thanks David, i'll have a look around for it in Chiang Mai

  14. You'll be fine entering the country when you get a new passport as long as it doesn't have the same name as is blacklisted. Therefore you will have a problem. Just because the passport number has changed doesn't mean you won't get arrested and deported again. You can come back, you just have to think about how you want to come back. There are 'legal' loopholes TIT

A few years ago I would have agreed, however with the OPs' full name, date of birth and photo on Immigration Dept/ASEAN/INTERPOL databases a new entry into Thailand is going to have to be awkward.

We will have to agree to disagree there then. How many people are on that database at such a low level of crime. A name and date of birth which are the same will always call up an alert. But the same date of birth with a different name will do nothing of the sort. In addition a photo is useless unless it has been distributed to officers for a specific reason. That is what i was trying to portray in a subtle manner. Do you get it? :D

Oh, you mean by lying? This should end well

Please explain to me, anywhere in that process where a lie would be committed. Thank you.

To knowingly enter a country from which you have been banned/blacklisted would obviously be illegal, even if you obtained ALL the travel documents legally.

Correct, but you would not be lying in the process. :o
