  1. The World bank ranked Dubai and Abu Dhabi as being the 2nd and 3rd, respectively, most popular medical tourism destinations in the region, behind Jordan.

Health care in Saudi Arabia is a national health care system in which the government provides free health care services through a number of government agencies. ... Saudi Arabia has been ranked among the 26 best countries in providing high quality healthcare.

Ever been to the resorts and beaches of Abu Dhabi?  How about the Maldives, or even Aruba...................................

Ah, details, details.................   Get a grip TAT.

Central,  near Avenue mall.  If you have contact info, I will get in touch to see if they will deliver here.

There's a shop on Soi 15 next to a small laundry kiosk and a few steps from Centara Avenue that delivers all kinds of beverages - including water.

There is the New York transfer fee and then a Thai bank receiving fee in range 200-500 baht which is not recorded prior to baht being deposited into account (1/4%).  There is also a requirement to not have card or internet access to such account (you have to appear in branch with ID to get or move money).

Right................I do have to go the the bank to get the US denominated funds or to convert them to Baht when the exchange rate is favorable.  The fee here each month for the deposit runs about US$ 6.40 to US$ 6.70.  The fee I'm charged in New York is US$5.

  4. Wells Fargo is a lousy bank with lousy service.  I have an account in the States with them only because my account is grandfathered from acquisitions and has zero fees.  I keep as little there as possible - less than 1K usually.

I wanted to have my son beneficiary/co-owner for the small account but the only way Well Fargo would do that was if I showed up personally at a U.S. branch office - COVID and expenses be damned.  No amount of escalation helped.  You're right that their "security" apparatus trips all the time. I use my son's U.S. address and phone to meet their administrative nonsense.  No other financial institution gave me any problems using e-mail to sort things out.

I use Bangkok Bank in (Pattaya as well), with direct deposit of my SS. It's actually deposited at the Bangkok Bank in New York who then do an internal transfer to the bank here to a dollar denominated account. Works trouble free although there's a double fee of about US$5 for the NY deposit and again when NY BB moves the money here - go figure.

    Good luck.

  5. That's less than U.S.$800 or so.  You'll not get much in quality or size for that kind of money.  A third of a carat of a high quality stone will run upwards of U.S.$5,000 these days.   I've never bought on online or here in Thailand; only from a jeweler I knew and personally in the Diamond District in New York where I could get an independent GIA evaluation within a few steps of the seller's shop.  Best to go with a couple of references and an independent appraisal.  The rip-off factor is considerable.

Very good advice IMO. If you pay a Thai notary and it is not accepted, you have wasted your money.  I have used one once, but it was for a Thai document.  For papers that needed to be notarized for use in USA, I have always used the US Embassy Consular staff in the American Citizens Service (ACS) unit - it used to be US$50 for first page and US$20 for additional pages, BUT that changed. It is now, I believe, US$50 for each page.

Same experience in China.  I needed several documents notarized for the U.S. and the only notary recognized was the U.S. Consulate (Citizen Services).

Thanks for the feedback Mahseer.  It is still 200,000 Baht according to the site.  I am yet to clarify this. And includes night stay in hospital.

Not cheap, you are right.  But cheaper compared to intraocular lens replacement surgery in other countries.  But is a considerable one-off cost.

I did read one post back in 2014 about one alleged patient who stated he was happy overall but his vision was not perfect, with problems in middle distance.  I have trifocals so near, middle and far vision.

That is one concern as the old post by this person expressed some frustration.

Others, like you have expressed satisfaction.

I have read that it can take several weeks before the vision improves to its best version.  And that night vision is compromised in respect to bright lights (halo affect).

Cheers and thanks for your feedback.

It's the replacement lens choice that will drive up the price.  I know the tri-focal (graduated lenses) were an extra 50K baht per eye.  I'm not sure what lens type, if any, is included in the 200K Baht price.

  8. Me too.

I met the Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital guy behind the Super-sight practice and got the pitch about two  years ago.  My cost for tri-focal implants would be 250K baht per eye .  My impression was a big emphasis on the sales pitch and closing a deal.  I demurred, but may give it a go if I can find some recent reviews.  I'm not sure I like the idea of doing both eyes on the same day - that isn't the usual practice for cataract surgery in the States, but hey..............

  9. Lucky you.

I had a similar problem with the ABC Bank in China. I lived in Shanghai for six years and left the account to handle a little online business I did for Chinese friends.  Worked fine with Thai ATMs until it didn't.  Turns out my Passport had expired and they needed to see the new one - in person.  No amount of talking on the phone or appeals helped - even with COVID, with China being closed for more than a year and all the rest.  Teeir answer, polite and in good English was "You have to come to China to an ABC Branch Office - oh, Hong Kong is ok too.

All for U.S. $1,000.  So good for you.

TOO late for me because my flight leaves in  2 hours.

thing is that this PASS is connected to many bookings. flight hotel ext.

so i cannot change them according to their craze. that is why THE WORST thing they

can do is GIVE NO ANSWER AT ALL. that is because they just waste people;s time until

their flight is coming. they know when the date of my flight. why can't they say something

even a say or two before the flight date? they just do not care.

Wait two or three months.  Things are very fluid now with disagreement among agencies and agency heads.  While the newest version of COVID doesn't seem to be all that dangerous, it is spreading like wildfire here and scaring the be-Jesus out of the authorities. Couple that with an innate inability for Thai people, particularly officials to think through the logical consequences of their decisions (or no decision/response in your case) and you've got an unpredictable mess.  It must be something in the water or in the gene pool, but these happy souls just don't think particularly well.

  11. The victim of the attack at the massage shop has been my live-in-partner for four years.  As honest as they come.  She was advised by her colleagues (and my me), to report the incident to the police, but declined so as not to "make trouble" or to affect the reputation of her shop..  I've got to respect her decision. There are no CCTV cameras in the shop.  There are likely CCTV cameras somewhere along 2nd Road that would have caught the guy on tape, but not wanting to involve the police makes that moot.  So far, the perpetrator has not returned to the shop.  The lady hasn't either - pending the swelling to her face and lip going down and likely won't until the New Year.
