  1. Hi, to help a fellow fisho....

Try this guy in the link, a friend of mine (www.facebook.com/patrick.erler.79?fref=ts). He has a boat based down in Kuala Rompin in Malaysia, an underrated HOT SPOT for sail fish here in SE Asia. As the other gentleman has already mentioned it is quite possible to get 9 or so sails in one day, catch and release of course! In fact about now is the high season there too I believe...contact Patrick... a very nice and helpful guy, I am sure that you wont regret it!!!

  2. Hi, you say it is expensive based on what? Costs in other countries? Research here in Thailand? or just what you hoped it would be...?

    • Hmmm to save on cost you could make it smaller...no one wants to make anything smaller in my opinion but they still want a lagoon/palace for peanuts.
    • You could save on concrete - wall thickness and quality and moisture barrier
    • You could save by not putting the larger size re bar in the walls, or better yet, just dont use any...
    • You could go with a fiberglass liner but will lose on lengevity....
    • You could do it properly with a good builder with a good background and recommendations and have something that will last a longgggggggg time....

2 pennies worth for you...good luck...

  3. Yes the poster AngTong is correct, the West Coast, although very beautiful and having the sunset views has quite low water in the middle of the day for around half the year, although there are spots you can swim all year round there - behind Laem Son lake being one.

The East coast has deeper water year round due to a deeper reef system. This side of the island is also more rugged and wild and less developed and some areas are only accessible via boat, or dirt track roads if you are lucky. Still it is VERY beautiful.

Any small sea front plots for sale are quite hard to find now and at a premium as has already been mentioned. On average beach front here (koh Phangan) is sold at 10-12 million baht per rai. I know of one plot, concrete road to sea, although a little bit rocky seafront, for sale at 6m baht per rai but the plot is nearly 6 rai and will not split...

If you would like to pursue some beachfront land seriously you can PM me with your email and I can try to assist you...12 years experience here has got me some good contacts and knowledge wai2.gif

  4. Bsd, I think you must have not seen that area a few years ago, as LTT says it was then, not now. Now it is all HiSo resorts charging a fortune and with rumours of how they got the beachfront land they are now upon.

LTT, sounds like you were in the wrong place at the wrong time, horses for courses as they say. Did you not do any homework before you booked there?

I have often felt sorry for the more traditional Thai's of the island, after all it is a bit of a zoo at times. As there are all sorts of zoning policies for construction and development here, more conservative than the mainland, I guess there could be a "party" zone to keep the noise away from the locals.

Maybe if the other parties are forced to close the FMP 100 baht per person entry levied on all farangs, NOT THAIS, can be donated to the closed party organisers to show some REAL community spirit...yeah right....clap2.gif

  5. Funny, "We have complained about this several times but the companies refuse to listen because they want to save costs,” said Krich". So the Thais are more costly than a farang? Maybe the farangs don't have a proper work permit but the Thais definitely dont need one. Maybe they should lower their prices a little and work/advertise a little harder and then maybe they can get a better slice of the pie.

Laws should be reciprocal, u cant do this here, OK we recind the right to do so in our countries, same goes with the newly proposed FB laws...lets see how their bowels work then bah.gif

  6. Sorry for late reply but had to go back to the UK in a hurry...

I would second Rompin as the best in the area, at least that I know of, failing that the Andaman coast for deeper waters and better fishing, unfortunately I am on the Gulf side :(

Rompin is great for freelining a bait with a balloon for an explosive take and fight with some tail walking thrown in ususally. A few fish every day is quite possible although as with most fishing a blank is also possible sad.png

Boats are relatively affordable, big enough for 4 or so but taking turns in the hot seat and the fights are hard going. All fishing is catch and release as the sailfish is a protected species in Malysia thankfully. Other than the sailfish there are some other smaller species to be had with light jigging being a great way to catch.

For a great service, including AP pick up and an all inclusive set up then Patrick at lxffishing.com & [email protected] (+60193050726) will sort you out, at least they did for me smile.png . There is a facebook page for this service too with some nice pics to ogle tongue.png . The owner is a very nice Zimbabwean/Austrian guy who has been in Malaysia many years and speaks both Malay and English clap2.gif

For a closer to home fishing experience the Burma Banks are good fishing although they might5 be busy now with a few Thai trips heading out from Ranong mostly...there are ads in most Thai fishing mags. Also Koh Lipe as mentioned also but the actual fishing grounds are the island near to it, Koh Adang, and further off shore.

As for freshwater fishing....well thats another mater entirely coffee1.gif

I hope this helps some fishos out there!!

  7. Hi SuratMan,

Phangan here, sounds good that you are getting out and about and wetting a line, I wish I was on the mainland so I could do the same! I know of a few spots to go for the snakehead's not far from Surat, although I havent put them to the test, drop me a PM and I can tell you where. I would be grateful for any feedback as it is such a chore to get anywhere from here lol. My most common venue is Chew Lan but its not a cheap trip although it gets a little cheaper when there are higher numbers in the group. Good luck and thx for the post.

    tight lines!!

  8. Hi MarkSamui, TonyPhangan here!! lol I dont know about the other species but the striped snakehead (do you mean pla Chado, or pla Chon?) will go for lures VERY well. This is great fun too, especially when the lure is a surface lure! The surface lures to use are frogs which spray water when pulled (real frogs work too), you can find many many variations in the fishing shops. The thing is that the cast must be very accurate to some kind of snags/cover, the closer the better, and many times a strike will be instant if the fish is there, so be ready!! I havent fished in Phuket but mainly go to Chew Lan, between surat and phuket, brilliant adventure but it isnt cheap!! Another good type of lure to use is a pencil bait to "walk the dog" on the surface. A good time for fast, deep diving lures is after the fish has spawned and protects its young fiercely. PM me if you are interested in a Chew Lan trip, I try to go there at least once a month in the good fishing period i.e. soon! Rain coming late this year and low water levels have delayed the best time so I am awaiting a "nod" from the lake boatman :D

    I hope this helps.

  9. Hi, Chew Lan (Kao Sok) is not far from Krabi, Surat or Phuket and, although not cheap to visit, is a good experience and good fishing (Chado, Krasoob luring). Other than that there are a few small lakes I know of between Krabi and Surat but not easy to find and of unknown potential. To the south (border Nakon and Pattalung) there is a decent sized lake supposed to hold Chado too. Most, if not all, of these lakes you will need a boat to really make it worthwhile to fish there.

  10. Hi Muskie,

Most of the fishing, if not all, at Kao Sok is not actually in the river, but the dam. I have been a few times and love it there. Gibbons give the morning roll call ( a bit early sometimes!) and you will see Hornbill's and other wildlife. The area is actually a nature reserve and hence there are no outside boats allowed to be launched - Thai guys love their guns (and shooting things!). Unfortunately this means that the 40k boat ride to the reserve is a bit expensive :) If you want to go there I would suggest a minimum of 2 nights @ 5k baht a night ( accom., food, 40k go and return trip and daily fishing boats incl.) - contact me if you would like more details.

  11. Come try popping and frogs for the WILD Snake Heads and Jungle Perch (doesn't look anything like a Perch!)...pop pop pop BOOM!!! oho! Mahseer fishing is brilliant, I agree, but not cheap and stocks are continually thinning (like my hair!). Want to give the PNG Black Bass a go sometime too, but that is super steep!!

  12. hey there, Lam Takong on the way (right next to the road), near to Korat has some good fishing, not sure of places to stay tho. There isnt much between Korat and Kon Kaen unless you really know the area. There are 2 massive lakes near KK, Lam Pao and another which i forget the name. Both have boats services and floating accomodation I believe. I hope that helps.

  13. Sorry, to answer the actual question, I have seen many pics in Thai fishing magazines which are both in Phuket and also Hua Hin area (Pranburi) with some good fish in them. Saying that, I have seen good fish in articles almost all over the coast of Thailand. I think there is good fishing to be had in most areas, you just need a good guide/captain to show you some holding spots to begin with...

Hope that helps...I fully appreciate the need for fishinggggg!!

  14. Hi All,

I have a fledgling business either importing or making boats in the sizes mentioned, actually 12 - 28ft, mono-hull, tunnel hull or catamaran design. For an imported (Asian) made 17ft - 6' 8" beam boat based loosly on a B' Whaler it will be around 250k to 300k depending on exchange rates, etc - trailer and engines not included, all brand new. I can beat all of the 4 stroke prices in Thailand with well known Japanese brands and most of the 2 stroke prices also with either a Japanese brand or an American brand. The boats are well made and actually used by the police of the country of origin - if not one of the boats made by a UK/US team based in Thailand.

If anyone is interested to know more please feel free to contact me.

P.s. best fishing spots i know are :- Chew Lan reservoir - Surat Thani and the Andamans, a bit far offshore tho!

  15. hmmm in BKK i know of bung samran (fun swamp in eng!!) which has huge mekong catfish, very strong, along with siamese carp and others...costs per day for take your own (strong) rod was 500 baht last time i went, add to this hut rental (500 - 2000) if you want privacy and bait (neccessity and cheap) and a guide who will help you (especially when you start - learn the tricks!) and its a few baht, but well spent. There are also pla kapong (barramundi) places near - boon mar ponds and also bor num near bang kapong and also a place near to bang na/bang pli where the owner is very nice and also helpful. Cheap places and very good fun on lures. If you ever want to go out of BKK there are good snakehead res. in kanjanaburi and also here in Chew lan in the south (Surathani).
