  1. Media! There's always someone that will get the story, and every how and then, they become the story, stay safe silly journalists that use words like "fear" and keep them diapers on tight, cause that one day, you become the story, and well ya know, you get to feel it - that indiscriminate "fear" which prompts another four letter word, starts with "f" and ends with "k" !

  2. Seems that they have changed the taxi arrangements again.

Arrived last night and wandered around as all the taxis had disappeared. Just to find out after walking loops following the signs that they have been moved downstairs first floor. You can enter the que from doors 4 and 7.

Anyways i did the trek downstairs and they had proper thai system of stainless fencing and the usual chaos as it was not clearly marked and there was no signs etc. But now they had 3 desks, those check-in style counters and the girls behind them had all blue vests confirming they have paid someone to get permission to be there from someone.

Well improvement on the counters but far away and difficult to find, especially if it is your first time in scampy.

And other thing was that there was 30m que and it was late night so the airport was deserted. Had to wait 15 minutes sweating and watching the 100 free taxis standing at door 4 que before they got any cars to door 7 :)

Oh why they just cant use the airport as it was designed with 10, yes ten exits from arrival. Now they have basickly fenced it off and closed 90% of the doors and escalators to public just coz they are not able to control few taxi touts...

And they call this a "modern facility" - what a frakking joke !

Ten exits and only a few doors in use; maybe they shuld put food stalls in the doors that arent being used !

  3. I have to go with my dog to the Bangkok Airport animal quarantine station. Room 308, Cargo Terminal before I can leave Thailand. I arrive with my dog from Koh Samui at 7.05 hrs with a domestic flight. Can someone tell me how to come soon as possible with a big dog, that is possible in sleep because that are the rules of Bangkok Airways, at the quarantine station because I have to check in for my International flight at 10.00 hrs. Is there a kind of taxi or other fast transport possible????

    Thanks for replay!

I would wait to give the sedation until you arrive at the airport. It will begin to work in about 45 minutes and be at full effect by one hour. So it would make sense to wait to give it until you are at the airport. That'll make it easier on you and the dog. How long is your flight?

Consult with the Veterinarian for complete info on your animals sedation medication.

    Thanks,

    Randy

  4. I just joined this forum and i'd appreciate some help.. I live and work in London UK but recently completed a TEFL course here with a view to living and working in Thailand... my only experience so far has been a month in Phuket in May, but I am coming to BKK in November for one month (never been there before) hear bad stories about the airport and taxi touts etc.. so where do I get a REAL taxi at the airport? Also I was told if I want to stay there it might be better to enrol at a school learning thai language coz I will get a visa for one year (maybe at Walen language school).. do I need to apply for a work permit BEFORE i leave the UK if I also want to teach while I am learning thai language?

All you guys seem pretty clued up... I haven't gotta clue so ANY advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.... Johnny

I studied Thai language at the AUA: http://www.auathailand.org/sit/

As for the airport. I too am going in December and arrive in the middle of the night and will be using the AOT limousine (Airport Organization of Thailand).

    Thanks,

    Randy

  5. Will be arriving at swampy after mid-night. Where is the nearest money exchanger? Is the one at the baggage carrosel open that late?

    Thank you,Joe

    Hey Joe:

I too am landing at midnight. Yes there is a carousel open this late at night; last time I did the late nite landing, they took almost 40 minutes to get our bags to the carousel, and the "signage" was horrible (it was right after the place had its grand opening) so it may be better. Also the restrooms were few and FAR in between.

Also, yes, there is an exchange open that late also. I believe its right after customs / immigration...

    Thanks,

    Randy

  6. Hey Peeps:

    1. I am traveling to BKK this November, will the rail system to downtown b operational, any news about this system ?

    2. If I take a meter taxi to Bang Rak (Labua) - what is the approximate meter ?

    3. Will the USD b $1 : B40 ?

    Thanks,

    Randy

  7. Not that I would be as optimistic as the NESDB, I dont think there will be much further contraction for exactly the reason that Priceless mentions. As an export driven economy Thailand is presumably suffering a lot due to the inventory cycle which should bottom out soon (although there isnt much sign) at which point orders and exports should rebound.

To me the economy is more likely to bottom (and potentially recover) than the US whose 6% decline was supported by a 2% rise in consumer demand, a rise that might not continue.

    LOL !

nothing like being an optimist !

  8. Would anyone agree that the on-going violence by the red-shirts, blockading courts or throwing bricks & acid at cars, and being televised round the world, also contributes to an off-putting image of continuing violence ?

Or perhaps the average asian or farang tourist can tell the difference, between patriots protesting a 'silent coup', and patriots protesting undemocratic constitutional changes ? :o

Red shirts, yelo shirts; it doesn't matter. What matters is when you are living in the US, and turn on your local OR national news and see Thai people - not uniformed mind you - firing revolvers into crowds standing with sticks or pipes, its cause to wonder, and any numbskull with half a brain cell would cancel their reservations at the Peninsula. Its pretty sad to see. Then top it off with HiSo's being burned and not one Government official having the frakking guts to say, yeah- we are accountable, makes for an already bad situation + add in world economic turmoil, a recession - is what we in the States have the guts to call it; and you've got the perfect storm for one hel_l of a bad year for Thai's !

Wake up LOS ~ You ARE in a recession !

  9. Tourists have a short memory and the doom and gloom crowd are going to see that tourists are going to be back sooner than you think.

I doubt it. The problems in LOS have been splashed over our local and natl USA networks; and it's reflected in travel agency bookings here = which are down, down and down. The last but not least, recent, shoe to drop, Santika, I am afraid sealed the fate of my own travel there for the near future.

Besides, as someone else said, BKK is too expensive compared to other countries; add the govt nonsense and safety concerns of the tourists, you've got the perfect storm for a severe un-employment picture that LOS wont realize til next travel season. Best solution is for massive PR campaign, a reset of valuation (coming soon to an exchange near you) of the B and some innovative ideas to "re-face" the LOS...
