  1. Sounds as though the Chinese are getting the exact same deal the western folks have. Well, except for the kiddie diddling and the ladyboy spelunking. China bad!
  2. Yes, PromptPay can be set up on the Bangkok Bank website, only takes a few minutes. But in my case only with my mobile phone number, not with pink ID card. There is a *note on the set up page that only Thai citizen ID numbers can be used. BKK Bank doesn't have my pink ID number yet, so unknown if that would change.

  4. ***UPDATE v5*** Letter from tax office arrived today with my full 2023 refund, having paid the 200 baht late fee online when filing. Checks are no longer sent out. I received a receipt that I must take to Krung Thai Bank to have the money deposited in my account via PromptPay. But first I must set up my Bangkok Bank account with PromptPay, which might be possible online.........
  5. I hope you are correct! Perhaps I am now confused from reading too much of these threads.
  6. I don't agree with his disagreement. A newly-retired ex-pat tax resident in 2029 will be liable for tax on income earned between Jan 01 2024 and Dec 31 2028, if that income is remitted in 2029. Any income earned after Dec 31 2023 will be assessable for tax residents if/when remitted to Thailand, regardless of tax residency when earned.
  7. That's what I thought, too, until a couple weeks ago when corrected. China also has a worldwide taxation system in place for tax residents (>180 days) since 2018. But those danged evil commies have a clever trick up their malign sleeves!. For ex-pats, it only comes into effect after 6 years of continuous tax residency, and the clock resets if you leave the country for 30+ days.
  8. I think we're confusing ourselves with all the potential what-if's, and the "whenever" in the statement makes this incorrect. The new interpretation of the existing law has changed this for all income earned after Jan 01 2024. Once you become a tax resident and remit any income earned after that magical date, it becomes assessable. Income from 2025-2028 while non-resident, for example, doesn't become exempt from assessability if remitted in 2029 while tax resident.
  9. 1. Are you sending from a Wise balance, or is Wise first pulling from another bank? 2. Over or under $1000? 3. What purpose? "Long stay" requiring TTY coding or "general living expenses" notes as interbank transfer?
  10. Yes. First thing I did after making the booking was to access Bangkok Airways website to confirm my flight reservation USING THE 6-CHARACTER RESERVATION CODE. It appeared within about five minutes. I went to this here website, scrolled down to "Manage my Booking" and entered the 6-character code (booking reference) and my last name. https://www.bangkokair.com/
  11. No, I meant the Thai ladies for riding 4-up on a motorbike on the highway!
  12. This appears to be a legitimate loophole, that registered travel agents can make genuine bookings that may be held pending for up to 48 hours. If not paid, then they automatically cancel. Thus you must make the booking within a 48-hour window covering your flight. Put it on your calendar, bookmark the website, do a practice run beforehand...........then book the ticket the night before, giving you ~36 hours to complete your trip, allowing for a one-day delay due to a cancelled connecting flight. Not complicated. Super easy! Barely an inconvenience!
  13. Sometimes they check. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes they ask, but you can talk your way around it. I suspected it might be required, so considered the $14 to be cheap insurance.
  14. I'm now looking at the onward ticket I purchased ($14) July 2022. Arrived on one-way ticket from China, transiting thru Hong Kong on Cathay. Onward ticket was required at Hong Kong check in. The agent did log onto the airline database to confirm I hadn't created a fake PDF. I reserved a flight 3-1/2 weeks after arrival Bangkok to Singapore on Bangkok Airways. The emailed flight reservation looks like any other paid booking, including a 6-character reservation code.
  15. Not at all. These are real bookings on real airlines flying honest to dawg real airplanes! You make the reservation via the onward site, and then you can go to the airline website and confirm that your booking exists. When you check in at the counter, if the agent requires an onward flight, you produce a copy of your booking. The agent will then access the airline database to confirm.
  16. There are deductions for children, as well as for parental care, and insurance premiums for parents, but nothing like those amounts. That might be considered a legitimate gift, even if you and the lady aren't married, if they aren't illegally funneling the money back to you.
  17. This deduction would be for Thai wife's private health insurance to supplement the national coverage. She also gets a deduction for payments into the social security fund. Would also come into effect for expats required to buy Thai insurance for their O-A visas. In addition there are deductions for investing in certain mutual funds and retirement funds.
  18. Do more research. Remitted does not mean assessable or taxed. Income earned after Jan 01, 2024 and remitted is assessable and taxed. Prior income and "savings" remitted is non-assessable and not taxed.
  19. There are also deductions for premiums to Thai companies for health insurance and life insurance....for you and wife........total up to 100K.
  20. Japan might be interesting, but........ 1. Is there some flavor of retirement visa? If so, what are the age and financial requirements. 2. What about taxes on remittances and global income for retired folkses?
  21. Nationals of about 170 countries and territories may visit Hong Kong without a visa, and can stay for periods varying from 7 days to 180 days depending on nationality. Nationality of foreign country (Territory) OMAN Visa free period for visit not exceeding 30 Days https://www.chinahighlights.com/hong-kong/visa.htm
  22. from the intertubes way back memory hole: if you can't find Coors light, buy any Thai beer and mix it half half with fizzy water. it might taste something like coors light but if it doesn't it won't taste any worse.
