Avoid to pay tax
NoDisplayName replied to Jack1988's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
It's actually super easy, barely an inconvenience. I plan to file 2024 tax return this weekend online. Will take about 15 minutes, then I'll do my 2024 FBAR, also about 15 minutes. When my 1099's arrive, I can file with Uncle Sam. That will take considerably longer, possibly an hour. I just completed my Thai tax filing preparations. I have on a single post-it note Total interest earned Total interest tax withheld Taxpayer ID of the bank Total dividends earned Total dividend tax withheld Taxpayer ID of the brokerage Pink ID number activated as TIN That's about all the info needed to file if not employed in Thailand or remitting yuge sums of assessable income. I brought in about 250K baht of NON-assessable funds, so those won't be listed. I can file without a bank withholding statement. I filed 2021, 2022, and 2023 six months ago. TRD sent the refund letter for 2023 immediately, requested bank statements for 2021 and 2022, and I got those refunds about two months later. That indicates TRD has bank/broker data for the current tax year. I'll only waste time at the bank getting the letter if requested. Then in about 2-3 weeks, I'll get a refund letter I must take to Krung Thai to deposit. My local Bangkok Branch won't link accounts to pink ID to make PromptPay possible. -
Trump on Immigration: "We need a lot of people coming in."

Yes, he made a misteak. You pulled a quote from 2016, before the Republican primaries, and long before he defeated the lady he promised to lock up, but who turned out later to be "good people." Just a little slip, can't expect him to remember all the trivial details. He had a lot on his mind. It's not easy being a very stable genius. -

Sense. It appears he was talking about work visa program abuse in general, and simply covfefed all the various programs into the only one he was at that time familiar with. -

The legalese term "mulligan" does not appear once in the 22nd commandment. An individual can not be elected to a third term as president. Unclear is whether Trump could be elected as vice-president in 2028, and then succeed to the presidency if Vance steps down. -

Methinks Trump may have been confusing H-2A visas for seasonal farm labor with H-1B visas for specialty occupations. He has since been informed of his error, thus the apparent flippy-flop. -

The H-1B program applies to employers seeking to hire nonimmigrant aliens as workers in specialty occupations or as fashion models of distinguished merit and ability. https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/immigration/h1b -

The point is Trump didn't say what your friends told you the MSM reporters said he said. I'm not asking you to do my homework, I'm asking you to do yours. You're claiming Trump said it, and I don't believe you. It's up to you to back up your claim. I searched for Trump saying this, as I do care. I could not find it, only quote-mined headlines. -
They caught me 'bout ten years ago. Only result was they restricted my account to not purchase or re-invest new shares of US-registered mutual funds. International people are not a problem. I have a couple Chinese friends that opened accounts while in the US on a work visa. They were allowed to retain their account when they returned to China. I've also contacted a Fid rep about opening a brokerage account for my Thai wife, and am awaiting the forms.

Not for my account using laptop. I did just try to log in using cell phone app, and they want to send a code to my US number. This is new. I rarely use the app, and then only when selling fractional shares. So this appears to be a phone app requirement only. I do have voice recognition, but that only comes into use when phoning in to speak with a rep. With voice recognition, I don't have to answer the five, no three, questions, although I am not afraid.

Unless they're slowly rolling all accounts into OTP required, this is just a you thing. I just logged on via laptop, no OTP needed, and no notification that the requirement was pending. Perhaps there was a pop-up notification at one point offering "enhanced protection" with "multi-factor authentication" as a security measure and you clicked the accept button? Are you using the phone app? If you'd like to remove 2FA, you can remove it by following these steps on Fidelity.com after logging in: Select "Profile" from the top green banner From the Security tab, choose "Security center" Under "Additional login security," choose "Turn off" next to Multi-factor authentication

Did he say that? Or is this another quote-mined propaganda talking point? Trump says "We'll deport all immigrants without legal status!" Propagandists say Trump said "We'll deport all immigrants!" Please provide a link to Trump actually saying what you're saying he's saying, one which provides a full transcript and not an edited version. -
If you're lifetime property of the US government, and utilize the IRS regulations to your benefit, you can earn about $60K(*) with no taxes due, $120K married filing jointly. Global income tax by Thailand would result in a minimum $10K tax bill annually, as your offsetting capital losses are not recognized by Thailand and would increase that tax bite even bigly'er. (*) increased to ~$63.5K for 2025 by COLA increases for standard deduction and tax brackets. My plan would be to buy a modest condo in Cambodia using 2 years of Thai tax savings. 5 months Thailand, 5 months Cambodia, 2 months China. Then would purchase a 10-year China multiple-entry tourist visa (US citizens $140, Canuckians C$110, UK £85), valid for 60-day entries. Or could avoid the visa using 30-day visa waiver to Hainan island and a few other large metro areas.

Avoid to pay tax

Yes, you are correct! I should have said "Never exceed 210K in remittance and you'll never cross the threshold to owe tax". i won't take sides in the argument over the requirement to file a return if over the threshold but not owing tax. I file with zero assessable remittance anyway for refund of pizza money. -

Unless things have changed in the past week, Thai tax is still an honor system. It's up to the victim to self-determine assessability of income sources. In the most basic case, you have a personal exemption of 60K and then the 150K 0% tax band. Never exceed 210K in remittance and you'll never cross the threshold to file a return. There are additional exemptions: 60K for spouse, 190K for 65+ or handicapped, etc. That's 60K of assessable income, which is earned after Jan 01, 2024. You can remit any amount of pre-2024 income, classify it as non-assessable, and exclude it from your tax calculations. You also may have additional non-assessable income (pensions, etc) depending on your country's DTA with Thailand. If you do owe tax, the rate for 150-300K is only 5%. -

There are plenty that live in Thailand >180 days on a mix of tourist visas and waivers. Still tourists, and would technically be subject to taxation, but unlikely to ever pay or be caught up. -

(4) File a Thai tax return listing only Thai sourced income and ASSESSABLE foreign remittances, and use your interest withholding tax refund to buy a pizza and a beer. If it's not assessable, currently up to you to determine, then you don't include it on the tax forms. You only need to bring up DTA's in the unlikely event you're called in for questioning about your return, and the officer on deck does not accept "prior savings from before 2024" or "government pension" if your remittances are questioned. -
Where art thou? I walked into a TRD office on Ramkhamhaeng and got my TIN in under 30 minutes. You have a savings account, You earn interest. 15% tax is withheld. Next week, go to your bank and get a tax withholding statement for 2024. March on over to the TRD and file a tax return in order to get the withholding tax refunded.
