  1. Thanks a lot Tony, that was a great overview! I've listened to the Scorpion on YouTube and it sounds great, too. I'll check up on the Arrow reviews. Is there any particularly good website for that kind of review, or did you just google it?

As for your spare Two Bros... Thanks for the offer, but I think it's best to get the bike first :)

  2. So I figure I'll want to get an aftermarket exhaust when I get the ER-6f.

Any thoughts on which one to go for? Two Bros is popular, but should I get aluminum, steel, titanium, or carbon? What are the benefits/drawbacks of each, apart from price? What would you go for?

  3. I have been having the same problems on two separate connections. Yes, switching over to OpenDNS solves the problem, but it's slower (ping to OpenDNS is about 250ms vs about 50ms for ISP DNS).

Very glad to find out I am not the only one with the problem. I was starting to suspect my routers.

  4. So Beahchbum did you get it? There was a nice black n in there today that already had a deopsit on it just waiting to get picked up, and also a bronze one yet unclaimed.

And I confiremed, the deposit is 50,000, not 5,000 as I thought I was previously told and previosly posted in here somewhere. by the sales dude.

Same salesdude said he isn't sure but the f is expected to be 20,000 baht more, so that puts it around 245,000. Let's hope. ETA July 21st, but that is not 100% either.

ETA July 21st? Last I heard the original launch date was in October, and that it already got pushed back to November. But I read it on the internets, so could be bull.

  5. I'm wondering what I should be doing to my Ninja 250R's chain...

How often do I need to lubricate it?

Is there any special procedure that should be followed for lubricating it, apart from just putting the lube on there? Is there an easy way to do it?

Which lubricants (type or brand) are good to use and available in Thailand, preferably in Chiang Mai?

    Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks!

  6. I just rode a friend's rented ER-6N (I normally ride my Ninja 250R) and I really liked the power, but not the long gear shift throw and not the digital tach... By the time the F is launched, I will have ridden the Ninja for almost a year, so I think that will be perfect timing for an upgrade :o Does the F have the same cockpit as the N?

  7. A favorite with YOUNG HI-SO Thai's.

    Nuff Said

So dismiss a brand because young rich Thais buy it? I'd have to stop shopping in Thailand :o

But seriously, there are both the billboard style jackets and the dark plain ones... I guess the 'corny' ones are more noticeable and make the wearer look goofy.

  8. The shop where I bought my new Arai helmet also carries Yellow Corn protective mesh jackets. They are around 13000 baht with armor and detachable inner windbreaker. Anybody care to share their experiences with this brand?

I'm new to the bike brands so any good advice on all round jackets for driving a Ninja 250R would be appreciated. Anything in particular to look out for? Thanks!

how big are you? can buy the yoshi leather jacket i'm selling on thai visa classifieds :-p

I'm 180cm tall and pretty skinny, seems like L is usually my size. Link?

  9. Thanks for all the great advice. I get the point about leather being more durable, but I definitely want to be comfortable in the heat, and mesh should be best for that. I figure that if I'm comfortable standing still at red lights too, I'll be more likely to wear it on the shorter trips around town, simply getting more use (and thus protection) out of it. If I do take a spill and the jacket gets messed up, I'll buy a new one and know it's worth it. I imagine even a leather jacket would look pretty scruffy after a slide.

My GF wants me to buy the bright yellow billboard style, but I'd feel like an idiot as soon as I got off my bike :o

Any shop around Chiang Mai apart from Fast Corner that has a good selection of jackets? I have the GT rider link of shops, but it's hard to see which ones are good for jackets...

  11. While the Ninja 250R is certainly not a "Big Bike" it is very big on the fun factor. :D

If you've never ridden a motorcycle with a clutch I would strongly recommend you solicit the help of a friend who knows how to ride and is willing to give you some pointers. You don't want to drop your shiny new toy!

Passenger pillion seat comes standard. When I bought mine they threw in the racing cowl for free. I'm not sure if it's still a freebie, but it can't be expensive to buy if you'd like one.

Don't know about good riding gear in CM. I get most of mine from Dirt Shop and The Paddock in BKK. Internet mail order can also be a good way to go.

Don't cut corners on your gear- it can save your life and prevent a lot of wear and tear! Proper helmet, gloves and footwear are a must. Armored jacket highly recommended. I'm still looking for good riding pants.

I heard there will be a new paint scheme on 2009 but no other changes. Odd the bike you saw had a fuel gauge. The Thai FI version is supposed to have a temp gauge where the fuel gauge is on the US model.

Enjoy your new Ninja- it's a crazy fun bike on the twisty mountain roads of northern Thailand! :o

Well, I had my first 30 minutes of test driving and I got the hang of the clutch pretty quickly. Then I was up to 140 before I knew it. Pretty addictive. They are now selling the 250R for 144,900 at the CM dealership. No freebies. I didn't want the seat cowl, but I heard they previously sold it for 139,900 with a helmet thrown in. Guess I'm too late. They said they sold about 20-30 during the last 6 months, mostly to Thais.

The one I rode had a temp gauge... maybe I was just imagining that fuel gauge. They said it was the 2009 model... is there any way I can know for sure? It looked a lot like the 2008 pictures, same paint job too. Hmm. Anyway, still gonna get one in January.

  12. I'm going to get a green 2009 series in January as my first "big" bike. When I test drive it tomorrow it will be the first time I use a manual clutch on a bike!

What is the difference between the 2008 and 2009? I think I saw the 2009 at Chiang Mai Bike Week had a fuel gauge instead of temperature gauge, is there anything else?

Does it come with a passenger seat by default or is that an extra?

Any tips on where to get protective gear in Chiang Mai? What kind of gear is best suited for riding in Thailand?

Thanks, awesome thread, just finished reading all 23 pages of it :o

  13. Hi all,

I'm about to buy a server, and as those things are expensive, I need some kind of physical security for it so that someone cannot just pick it up and run away with it. I don't have a server room to lock it up in, so I was thinking about some kind of ventilated locker that I could bolt to the wall from the inside. That way you would have to be able to open the locker to unbolt it.

Has anyone heard of such a thing? Where would I pick one of those up in Chiang Mai? Any other good suggestions?

    Thanks.

  14. Hi all,

I am running a software development business and need to install a wired network in the office, which spans two floors in a townhouse. I'd rather not do it myself, so does anyone have any good or bad references? Where should I look for a company that can come and set up the LAN cables and boxes, do the necessary drilling etc.?

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

  15. Has anyone seen anything interesting for rent around Nimmanhemin or other central areas? I'm looking for around 100 m2 of office for about ten people. It should be relatively nice looking and have security. Any suggestions?

Does anyone have experience renting a townhouse and fitting it out with alarm and PIN code entry system?

  16. Rumor has it that the Amorn Electronic shop (next door to Icon Square) will replace the cells in notebook batteries. I heard that they will take the battery apart and swap out the cells. Check them out and post back here with the results to confirm.

Thanks for the tip, I will do exactly that.
