  1. I am amused by this passing fad to reshape your bodies so that you look like a freak. When I left the UK the current fad was nearly everybody under the age of 35 walking around carrying a bottle of water. Did they all think that they lived in the middle of the Sahara desert? Then there was the gel kick. Everything between medications to shampoos suddenly had magic qualities if it was in gel form. The hard of thinking rushing around copying each other as if they didn't have minds of their own. All so insecure that they wanted to part of the crowd?

Why spend a fortune only to end up looking like this?

Nothing better than sitting in the sun, reading a good book and sipping at my favourite tipple, totally stress free and occasionally looking up to see everybody running around but achieving nothing, rather like the <deleted> road users who drive at breakneck speed only to sit on their backside when arriving at their destination. I am mindful of the young calf suggesting to his father, the wise old bull. that they gallop down to the other end of the field to attend to the needs of some of the heifers and the sage replying that they should walk down and attend to all of them. Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare?

No matter how hard you try you won't overcome the ravages of time so why bother? When you come face to face with arthritis and possible hip replacement you might wonder where you went wrong. An hours stroll along the beach every day, enjoying the view of the young lovelies in their skimpy beach wear (not you Irma! Or you Svetlana) is enough exercise for me.

That said, do whatever floats your boat. It's your life so live it your way.

  2. Meanwhile, the director of the National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC), Gp.Capt. Somsak Khaosuwan, said a close watch is still paid to Chachoengsao province which, as a downstream area, is absorbing water from Sa Kaeo and Prachinburi provinces. It is expected that the water level in Chachoengsao will remain stable and gradually recede. It may take 1-2 weeks for the situation in Chachoengsao to become normal due to the curvy shape of Bang Pakong River that slows down the flow of water. Additionally, some provinces in the northeastern region i.e. Ubon Ratchathani, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, and Amnat Charoen might be affected by the Nari tropical storm.

The river curves and bends in trying to reach a lower level as it passes through flat land . The prime cause of flood waters not receding quickly is because of the flat terrain that the flood waters pass through. If the flood waters got up any head of stem we would see the formation of oxbow lakes and the river entering the sea via a delta. I suggest the Group Captain goes back to his accident prone Air Force.

  3. I am coming to the end of my life. What possible use is learning to read/write/speak Thai to me? If I had a grave and a headstone I'd much rather it told visitors that I taught my family to speak English and being able to do arithmetic than that I was bilingual. My limited vocabulary is all that I need. My lack of a comprehensive means of communication has not prevented me from maintaining good relations with the locals or in dealings with shopkeepers. I see no mileage in trying to be more Thai than the Thais.

  4. I think the word "Engine" should read drive unit of Artics. Why I don't know as UK trucks drive in Europe without any problem.

Just to be pedantic, wink.png the N.American usage is rig, big rig, semi trailer or semi (among others).

Artics might make people think of something the Inuit use.

In the UK the bit that houses the cabin, all the controls and the engine is, or was when I lived there, called a tractor. Unhooking and replacing the tractor of articulated vehicles at the border should be no problem. A Chinese or Laotian tractor could deliver the trailer to the border and then a Thai tractor take over. Reverse procedure going the other way of course. All it takes is for transport companies to get into bed with a foreign (alien??) partner.

Mounting a horse is always on the left. This leaves the right arm and hand free to draw a sword, same goes for drawing a six shooter. Keeping to the left on a road or trail means that after mounting one can ride off without having to turn around. That's the historical reason. Experiments and tests have shown that in an 'oh my Christ' situation the majority of drivers veer to the left. Driving on the left makes this a less hazardous practice.

  5. Shouldn't there be some room for an Immigration Officer to assist a person like this that clearly has 150,000 in excess of the minimum requirement.

The rule is to stop people gaming the system. This person clearly is not. She should get the stamp and a friendly reminder to do better next year.

They jerked me around even though I had excess of 800,000bt funds in the bank aged over 90 days.

My bank letter stated 950,000 but my bank book showed 940,000 as I had made a withdrawal.

"No, go back to the bank for a new letter that matches the bankbook."

"But Officer, I have well in excess of the required minimum"...

Dirty look and waved off like an annoying fly..

Maybe the guy was fishing for a backhander?

Same thing happened to me this year at Jomtien. When I rushed around and got hold of another bankletter and had my passport stamped, I told the officer supervising the prissy young miss who I had dealt with that there would be no thank you present this year.

  6. Do the Russian helpers flying in have work permits? During the tsunami many farang were arrested for providing aid to injured. WHAT A COUNTRY! I pray Putin puts a TRAVEL ADVISORY to all his people that Thailand has ZERO concern for anyone but Thais. Safety is not spoken here.

Don't know about work permits - but he's got a frigging big navy, air force and army if anyone wants to play silly buggers with him!

I'm sure KY and her regime would not be that dumb,

One US carrier group has more numbers and punching power than the entire Russian navy according to the book I am currently reading. I remember the Phuket taxi drivers giving the US navy a hard time.
