  1. This has to be one of the funniest threads I've ever read on the board. The people who run the Darwin Awards need to take a trip to Suvarnabhumi and watch these hundreds of people per day doing backflips down the escalators with their trolleys and breaking their necks in the process. A word of advice to Weho - stay away from Thailand and any other third world country or you will certainly find yourself on DA's 2007 list. You will find very few warning signs anyplace in Thailand or other third world countries. It is assumed that you know what you're doing if you come here and how to keep yourself safe. If not, stay in your home country where you can be warned against everything the slightest bit unsafe. Oh, and while you're at it, you should tell AoT to install warning signs all over the place above the railings overlooking other floors. Someone might just get the idea that jumping over the railing and down to the next level is the fastest way to get there. You wouldn't want them to hurt themselves in doing so.

Sorry for being a bit harse in my comments, but you really do have absolutely no business being in Thailand if you need a warning sign on the escalator. I really do mean that. Please go home and save your life.

    Amen to that,

Exactly my point of view, also some of the regular punters seem to be frustrated with everything Thai. If so what are they doing here ?

    Regards

  2. ^^^^Bummer....I feel your loss.

Well we can blame the Brits and the Yanks for this. Another success for the extremists. :o

    Hi there,

I'm a bit confused here, why blame the yanks and the brits for terrorist acts. Why not blame the terrorists ??

Anyway the first rule of survival from Robert A. Heinlein is : Don't get caught !!!

In this day and age, with all the information you need at your fingertips, it is easy to check the rules before you travel. No bad surprises then.

  3. If I bring in cash how do I proceed at the airport to get a document that proves I brought the money with me. ???

Declare it to customs and get their report.

How much money are you talking about? Why do you not want to make a bank transfer? Is it dirty money?

    --

    Maestro

Thanks Maestro, f.y.g. money is always dirty !! One has to be in country with foreign currency to open a foreign currency account. I don't have this account yet, so if I transfer to my normal bankaccount it will be changed to Baht whioch is exactly what I do not want

    Best regards

  4. Import of foreign currency is now unlimited. However if later I want to export this (or part of it) I need proof that the money comes from abroad.

If I bring in cash how do I proceed at the airport to get a document that proves I brought the money with me. ???

    Thanks for prompt reply

  5. Hi, here the new rules as per pamflet received in Paris CDG terminal 1.

    Permitted in cabin :

    1) Liquids, gels, creams, aerosols and pastes which must be :

    - stored in containers of 100 ml maximum

    - placed in a single transparant resealable (freezer-type) plastic bag with maximum

size of 20 by 20 cm

    - one bag per passenger

    2) Food for babies or young children required for the journey

    3) Liquid medicine and diet food, medical prescription recommended !!

all other in hold baggage only.

I have learned from a newspaper of my home country (Belgium) that allready there have been incidents involving medication not allowed in the cabin.

This is in my opinion not a measure against terrorism, but a measure terrorizing the passengers.

If the above information should not be correct dont hold me responsible but send your complaints to www.aeroportsdeparis.fr :o

  6. I agree with CWilliam:

    Stop your complaining.

Went from Bangkok to Las Vegas. Used EVA Air

Was the drive to the airport easy with no traffic? Yes

Was the check in process simple? Yes

Were my bags loaded onto the plane? Yes

Did the plane depart safely and on time? Yes

Is the outisde area where cars drop off and pick up passengers better than DM? Bg Yes.

Was immigration fast as well as the baggage claim? Yes

These are the most important factors to consider. Remember you whiners that an airport is not a shopping mall, hotel, bar, etc... but a place for planes to safely arrive and depart and do this in a timely manner.

I have some criticisms but nothing that would say that this is a BAD airport.

    1. Lack of signs to tell you what floor you were on. Can be easily fixed. This is common practice in Thailand as the Paragon is another mega structure with poor signage.

    2. Grey coloring needed some flowers and trees to spruce it up. Can be easily fixed.

    3. A wider variety of shops inside the terminal before departure. It kind of looked like Sukumvit Road with Boots, 7-11, and a Family Mart next to each other. I expect a beauty salon shortly. But nothing to claim that the airport opened to early.

    4. The inside after the customs is nothing but a shopping mall with high end items. The eating inside was better than outside.

    5. The moving walkway drops you right off into that duty free shop. Literally it takes you right into the women's perfume. This could be tricky for a frist timer but again nothing to lose sleep over. Signs now help you get through that.

    6. Yes the air was uneven but again it is a mammoth structure. Don't stand in that hot area then. Move. This problem will be fixed.

    7. Don't buy stuff at King Power. It isn't cheaper than in the shopping malls. Duty free in LAX saves you a few dollars. Big deal.

    8. The arrival area is smaller but not hard to navigate. LAX is much worse! And the baggage claim in Las Vegas took over an hour and that is supposed to be the first world? Of course next to teh baggage claim in Vegas were rows of slots. Maybe the idea is to be slow. Baggage claim in Bangkok 20 minutes after we landed.

Freddie Fly, I had no trouble using the toilet. How long do you expect to be at the airport? Heck the ride into the city will be MUCH longer than a 3 minute walk to a toilet. Its a huge structure and maybe you have to walk 50 meters for a piss. Your walk from your hotel to Nana plaza has no toilets and I don't see lots of complaining about that. The walk to the pisser in Suvanabhumi will do you some good. Consider it exercise. The toilet problem is not that bad.

The airport did not open early. These small problems that you whingers are complaining about can be easily rectified and I am sure they will.

Getting back to my first point...

Did the airport safely and quickly get me from check in, through customs, bags on plane, board and depart, move me through customs as they said they would? YES.

    The airport is a success.

Find something else to complain about you old Farts!

    Turok

    My thoughts exactly !!!

You only have to look at most of the comments about getting caught out by the customs to realize that probably a lot of the complainants have not even been at the airport.

  7. This is excellent news. No more hidden charges, no more people caught with their pants down leaving the country without enough cash on hand, and make navigating through the airport more efficient for all.

This is a good step. Now when will Air Asia and other thai carriers stop the silliness of quoting low fares on their web site, but when you try to purchase only then tack on fuel surchages, taxes, and other stuff. You just have no idea how much the real cost will be unless wading most of the way through the purchase process which is a rather annoying and unnecessary thing. If anything I would think it would put off people rather than drumming up sales.

Good news indeed. lets just hope the airlines and/or travelagents do not overcharge and that we pay 700 baht only.

As for the quoting low fares it is not only the thai carriers but also travelagents as Chawla Travel and Massic travel just to name a few who quote low fares.

  8. Hi there,

I cannot begin to imagine that I am the only smoker that is seeking info about smoking at the new airport :o , so here are my questions :

    - are there smoking cubicles in the transit area ?

    - any of the lounges, cafés or other where one can light one ?

Thanks beforehand for any outcome :D

    regards
