Can you explain to me, why your baby look exactly like mine.

I want you to be entirely honest about it.

Have you been seeing my spouse behind my back?

    cheers

  2. Canuck- Great points, in my opinion.

Chownah- Good point about 'charming' depending on perspective. And agreed that the mass media and technology are speeding up the process of globalization, to the extent you're making that point. But hasn't the process of us all coming back together been going on since about the time we all spread out from the same place in Africa? Noodles and other food, language, etc.--there are many examples that point to ancient peoples having started the process of interaction and cross-adoption long before the so-called modern world.

    KireB- Are not.

Dear Dumspero, I think you are missing the point here. I came to live in Thailand over 17 years ago because I found the Thailand of then quite to my liking. In these 17 years Thailand has changed a lot.

If this is for the better or the worse, I really don't know. I have endured a lot of flak here on ThaiVisa because in my opinion we are at least partly to blame, but again this is my opinion based on my experiences in this lovely country. One thing I see as a big improvement is that nowadays many Thais are aware that there is more to this world than Thailand alone so they are better prepared for the changes that are bound to happen. Again don't know for sure, it's just my opinion.

Then there is also the factor that one man's paradise can be h*ll for another and probably the truth is like the Buddhist's believe somewhere in the middle.

    cheers

  3. No, I'm afraid it's not limited to Suk/Silom either. I've had idiots ask me how much I paid for her even in her home town out in the sticks.

Amazing how fast those buggers can run too. :o

I even experienced it in Penang, by a farang "lady" who told me : "how dare you bring a prostitute in this nice (Shangri-la) hotel and confront us with your sordid lifestyle". Suffice to say she checked out the same day.

Anyway since I mostly frequent places where people know us it isn't so bad anymore and we learned to ignore it, most of the time.

    cheers

  4. Could we please post the real price a ticket costs when you by it?

All these incredibly cheap enticing offers mean absolutely nothing.

Try booking at those prices and see how much will be added for tax, fuel surcharge etc.etc.

The price of a ticket is what you pay, not what is advertised.

Anyway I do have the strong suspicion that some of the posters here are in someway advertising, which I believe is not allowed here.

    Cheers

  5. I'm going to stay home but not because it's friday the 13th but because it's the start of Songkran.

According to what I researched this day is considered lucky or unlucky depending on which part of the globe you're from.

It is also not really clear why and many theories exist but none conclusive (sorry Dan Brown).

Would like to know how you feel about it.

My wife told me it is only important this year because it's Songkran but no other relevance in Thailand

    Cheers

  6. We're back for our annual month in Thailand this August and have a couple of days spare in the middle and wondered if anyone has any ideas/advice/bright ideas.

After a few days in Bangkok we're off to a homestay half way between Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen for 6 nights. We than have two or three nights spare before making our way down to Hua Hin.

Has anyone got any bright ideas on what to do for those two or three nights. We're not on a backpackers budet, but nor is money no object (we're teachers after all) and just up for anything different / rewarding / funny for a few nights (allowing for our travel itenary).

Also has anyone got any "new" must dos in Bangkok, as having been many, many times over the last decade we think we're getting close to doing almost everything us trippers can think of. Once again we're open to to any ideas (i.e. two years ago someone recommended getting down the Army Barracks for some live ammo rifle shooting which I'm guessing is off limits this time around).

Have you been to Phimai just north of Nakorn Ratchasima ? Nice Khmer temple.

Then there's Lopburi and of course Ayutthya.

    Cheers

p.s. don't know about shooting, try to stay away from guns :o

  7. I have my doubts because of a couple of discrepencies in the story, and because I know Suwannapum pretty well.

Well I know the place pretty well to, whatever it's called (mine is Savanaboom)

I see you are taking offence at me for doubting your son's story.

I have been numerous times through "Suvarnabhumi" airport and before that through Don Muang, and I have NEVER been scammed. Maybe I was lucky, and maybe I was a little bit more carefull than others, but I have never felt the need to exagerate anything that happened to me to make the story a bit more interesting to tell. This I have witnessed thousands of time.

Anyway If I hurt your feelings, I'm truly sorry about that, but you cannot deny me my right to form my own opinions and express them. This is my final say on this story.

    Cheers

  8. I think we are getting into semantics now. Can we simply agree that knowing the Thai language makes understanding Thailand and Thai people easier?

I fail to see why I have to understand something to be able to love it.

I have never understood women, but I do love them, and I think it's the same with Thailand.

Look how small children from different cultures and different linguistic backgrounds understand each other perfectly when playing.

Maybe it's not so much the language barrier that differentiates us but the screens we have put up (maybe unknowingly) and our attitudes towards life in general that create the barriers.

    No offence intended.

    cheers

    [1] Suvarnabhumi

You must know it pretty well if you can't even spell it correctly........

    :o

wow, did I hurt your feelings?, if so I sincerely regret it.

So in your opinion you have to be a qualified mechanic to be able to drive a car?, and I have to know how the cheff made a terrific desert to be able to enjoy it?

Suvarnabhumi had been called many things on this forum without anyone taking offence, why me ?

    Cheers mate

  11. And Mr Marco, I'm not going to apologise for being successful, I have already said sorry for being arrogant, that is enough, as you say Gordon Gekko....... hahaha, no, that is being too rich with no thought at all about the people around you. I love the fact that I have retired at a young age, but it was not with out very hard work, and the biggest gambles a man can ever take in his life, it could have easily ended up with me being on income support, I simply chose to gamble, and I won.

    Good for you,

Maybe you were lucky, or maybe you know the game better than most of us.

However there are a lot more people that gambled and lost, than winners, and thats why casinos make so much money.

It's much easier to make money when you have money and can afford to take some risks.

Some of us can't afford to take any.

    Cheers

  12. I've read and seen photos about Danang beaches and they seem nicer and more beautiful than the Phuket ones (Kata, Karon, Patong).

Can u compare them and post your opinion?

Can u suggest me the cheapest way to reach them from Bangkok. Is it possible by boat?

I've only found the AirAsia fares to Hanoi (around 10k baht for 2 people).

Can u suggest me something else for the same price? :o

    Try Krabi,

Airfare with Nok Air about 5.000 for 2.

    Fantastic beaches.

    Cheers

  13. It's a shame the forum gets bogged down with such threads, it is difficult to find anything worth reading without looking through a load of rubbish first.

Is there not a more fitting forum for this thread?

Why don't you start a couple of topics.

I bet they would not be boring at all, and we would all appreciate some pearls from you.

  14. I just got off the phone with my son who picked up a friend at Suvarnabhumi Airport this last friday april 6 , a Thai holliday and late afternoon. He did not experience traffic jams on his way to the airport coming from Pra Pinklao by taxi.

They went down exit C to the taxi booth there and when asked where to go (Pra Pinklao) were told 400 baht. Followed a discussion on using the meter: "That will cost you 700 baht :D ! Finally the man form the taxi stand asked aroundwhich driver agreed to use his meter and they were pushed into a taxi. Before they drove off my son told the driver to take the motorway Rama iX, not the toll road, cheaper: faster, less far and no traffic problems. To which the driver refused to drive off, motor way or "no go" They ended up before the taxi booth again and were ignored by the people on the taxi stands. In the end he got an other taxi with meter via the toll road and was pissed off being treated like this.

He was not given the taxi booth ticket neither, seems they were written in advance with rubbish and certainly not with the license number of the driver. He was given a slip at his destination and he will file a complaint.

I took a taxi there two weeks ago and did not have any problems. This looks as a new taxi scam for the freshly arriving tourists. :D

Are you sure that's what happened? I have my doubts. :o

  15. Strongly agree with posts 1 thru 3. Whatever the morals of prostitution, if one party has come through with their part of the transaction, the other party should pay at least the amount agreed on, or more if they so wish. Anyone that tries to back out or cheat on that, is deplorable IMO. And, of course, there's always the risk of some of the lady's "friends" meeting them down a dark alley & extracting the money forcibly, later...

    Exactly,

    Well said
